Did you know that Gal Gadot almost made her superhero debut in a completely different cinematic universe? Get the scoop on the actress as she takes over the world as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. — Arno Kazarian
Gal's Origin Story
Before she was cast in her first acting role, Gal was a successful model and won the 2004 Miss Israel competition at the age of 18. She then completed two years of service in the Israeli Defense Forces before enrolling at university, where she was studying law when she was first discovered by casting directors.
Early Franchise Opportunities
Early on while she was at university, a casting director called her in to audition for Quantum of Solace. She read for the part of Bond girl Camille Montes, which ultimately went to Olga Kurylenko. As it can go in Hollywood, the Quantum casting director instead hired Gadot to play Gisele in Fast & Furious, her first mainstream role. The popularity of her character saw Gadot's screen time increase in Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6. In all three movies, Gadot performed her own stunts.
Her Hobbies Make Her Action-Movie Ready
As seen here in Fast Five, Gal is a motorcycle enthusiast and owns a black 2006 Ducati Monster-S2R. Before Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment came calling, she also played on volleyball, basketball, and tennis teams.
She Had a Blind Audition for Wonder Woman
Initially, Gal had no idea that she was auditioning for the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. All she knew was that she was reading for a project that Zack Snyder was directing and had Ben Affleck attached as the male lead. During her first audition, she read some dialogue from Death Proof, Quentin Tarantino's segment of Grindhouse.
There Were Superheroic Contenders to Play Wonder Woman
Aside from Olga Kurylenko, Elodie Yung and Jaimie Alexander were among the final contenders to play Wonder Woman. Alexander's affiliation with and obligation to the Marvel Cinematic Universe nixed her chances, and in December 2013, DC Entertainment announced that Gadot had been cast.
After Wonder Woman, Gadot will appear in the two-part Justice League saga.
Close Call With That Other Superhero Movie Universe
Since we already cannot imagine any one else playing the current version of Wonder Woman, stop for a moment to realize that Gal almost made her superhero debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; she was one of the top contenders to play Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy.
