The "Dollars Trilogy" Free on Hulu

5 November 2009 10:27 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

A quick heads-up for Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood fans. All three of their "Man with No Name" westerns are now up on Hulu for free viewing. Hulu is only going to have these movies up until the end of November, so don't waste time, pilgrim. You can watch all three films right here.

A Fistful of Dollars originally followed the trend of remaking Akira Kurosawa's samurai films as westerns. I say trend, but really there was only, what, The Magnificent Seven? Fistful uses the plot of Kurosawa's Yojimbo as its premise, then reshapes it into Leone's own signature style. Then came the pseudo-sequel, For a Few Dollars More. Leone never meant for the three films to be a trilogy, but it just turned out that way due to Eastwood's same look and acting style in all three.  The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is a prequel of sorts, »

Morgan Freeman Wants To Be a 'Dirty Old Man'

2 November 2009 9:48 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

While Morgan Freeman has dabbled in comedy in his long and illustrious career, I don't think he's ever really gotten a chance to really cut loose. He certainly hasn't gotten to play in the raunchy end of the pool, but it sounds as though he's taking the leap in Dirty Old Men. The Hollywood Reporter says that he's attached to star as an aging playboy in the tentatively titled project, and we'll either be laughing or horribly traumatized by his efforts.

Men was penned by Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge, and is said to be similar in tone to The Wedding Crashers and The 40 Year Old Virgin. It centers on two aging playboys who have been each other's wingmen for over 40 years. One of them meets the love of his life, leaving the other (played by Freeman) to chase skirts on his own. Well, that just won't do. The »

Morgan Freeman Joins Dirty Old Men

2 November 2009 2:45 AM, PST | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Warner Bros. has picked up a comedy written by Josh Cagan (Bandslam) and Greg Coolidge (Employee Of The Month), to which Morgan Freeman is attached to star and Peter Segal (Get Smart) may possibly direct.

The script has a working title of Dirty Old Men and tells the story of an aging playboy who finally meets the love of his life, leading his best friend and wingman for the past 40 years (Freeman) to do everything to break up the new couple. The tone of the film has been described as similar to The Wedding Crashers and The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Apparently Warner would love to have Jack Nicholson star in the playboy role, which would see him reteam with Freeman after they starred together in 2007's The Bucket List, but so far the actor is not attached.

Freeman will next be seen in Warners' Invictus, which sees him portraying »

Eastwood And Whitaker Are Debutante Dads

2 November 2009 12:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Clint Eastwood and Forest Whitaker are set to become debutante dads - their teenage daughters are to take part in an annual French ball where they will be formally introduced to adult society.

Francesca Eastwood, the 16-year-old daughter of Eastwood and Frances Fisher, is among a select group of finalists chosen to participate in Le Bal des Debutantes.

Whitaker's 17-year-old daughter Autumn, with wife Keisha, also leads the contingent, according to the New York Post.

The event will mark its 19th year at the Crillon Hotel in Paris, France later this month.

Last year's event saw Scout Willis, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, make her society debut in front of her famous family. »

Morgan Freeman Is an Old Dirty Man But Also One with Dignity and Gravitas

1 November 2009 11:23 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

If you want strong, quiet dignity with a voice so reassuring that you want it for every audiobook ever made, you call Morgan Freeman.  That’s why him shouting “Somebody kill This motherfucker!” in “Wanted” was one of the best movie moments of 2008.  Watching Freeman subvert his image has great comedic potential and it looks like Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge’s script, “Old Dirty Man” may do just that.  Hit the jump for more details.

According to THR:

The script, which had a working title of “Dirty Old Men,” revolves around an aging playboy who finally meets the love of his life and his best friend and wingman for the past 40 years (Freeman) who does everything to break up the new couple. The tone is described as similar to “Wedding Crashers” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.”

Freeman has attached himself to the Warner Bros. flick with Peter Segal (”Get Smart”) in talks to direct. »

Early Best Picture Predictions: Invictus & Hurt Locker Lead

30 October 2009 10:14 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

I know we've still got a good two months left in the year and most of the heavy-hitting films haven't even been seen by anyone yet, but it's never too early to talk about the Oscars. Over the past week, Tom O'Neil of the La Times' Gold Derby blog polled some 16 Oscar pundits and film critics to get an early pulse on what they think are top contenders right now for Best Picture. Those polled include well-known film critics like Erik Davis, Pete Hammond, Peter Travers, Jeff Wells, and Susan Wloszczyna. And the list of their top picks might not exactly be what you're expecting. Or maybe it is? Read on for their picks and to tell us your own! The two films that are leading the race, according to these 16 people, are Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker and Clint Eastwood's Invictus. Both of those films got a »

In addition to big casting news involving the Coens and Josh Brolin, two big trailers featuring Damon made the news this week. The first is Green Zone, a reunion with his Bourne director Paul Greengrass. The second is likely to be a Best Picture nominee: Clint Eastwood's Invictus.

We've also got a beginning and and end: You can watch the opening sequence to Boondock Saints II, opening today in about 65 theaters, or the alternate ending to Paranormal Activity. Top 7 Films Directed by Actors Turned Directors

30 October 2009 4:34 AM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.

The old joke is that all actors want to direct.  Though it’s maybe not true of all, I still had plenty to choose from in making this list.  The directors on this list all started life as actors, some still are, but I’d argue that they’re better known as directors.  This month, two well known actresses have tried their hand at direction, Drew Barrymore with Whip It (which was a great movie, I have no idea why it did so badly) and Natalie Portman doing a segment of New York I Love You.  Who knows, maybe one (or both) has a second career around the corner.

7. A Woman Under the Influence (1974)

Directed by John Cassavetes

Recap: A portrait of family in crisis when a woman (Gena Rowlands) goes mad and her husband (Peter Falk) tries to understand it.

Oscar Verdicts on Mirren, Clooney, Jackson

29 October 2009 12:47 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

By Steve Pond

These days, Oscar is a waiting game. Most of the films that are in contention for the top awards have made the festival circuit or been screened around town; in the best-picture race, there’s probably not much left to see.

But what is left is significant. Rob Marshall’s musical “Nine,” Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones,” Clint Eastwood’s “Invictus” and James Cameron’s “Avatar” – those four films, none of which have screened to any significant degree, occupy four of the 10 slots on the majority of Os... »

Oscar Update: Tidying Up the Best Picture Race

29 October 2009 11:40 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I've been mulling around the Best Picture race in my head for quite some time and there are five films I am certain will be nominated; Invictus, Up In the Air, Precious, An Education and The Hurt Locker. Those are my five locks as of right now and if we were still looking at a five film race I think the conversation about which film will most likely win would be decided within a matter of months, once everyone saw Clint Eastwood's Invictus, a film that just saw its trailer debut to much online love. Those final five spots, however, have been a cause for some prognosticating concern.

I am quite confident Nine and Up will receive nominations, but I could see Up get bumped just because the Academy would think to themselves, it has Best Animated Feature, why waste a spot for it here? It's unlikely, but would »

Dolph Lundgren Gives One Hell of a Command Performance!

29 October 2009 7:42 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The action star directs this one-of-a-kind rock and roll hostage thriller

Dolph Lundgren has directed, maybe not the best film of the year, but certainly one of the coolest, strangest, funniest fuck-em-up hostage thrillers seen in (at least) the last five years. Not one to take himself or his image too seriously, Command Performance is a tour de force that proves the legendary muscle man (who first made his appearance known in Rocky IV as Russian boxer Ivan Drago) still has what it takes to decimate a room full of heavily armed bad guys. Its no lie when I say Command Performance is hands down the most fun you'll have with any action movie being released this year. It earns 2009's Mega-Awesome Achievement Award simply for having the balls to pull off many scenes like the one below:

Trailer for Clint Eastwood's Invictus Now on the Web

29 October 2009 2:51 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Clint Eastwood is less than a year away from his 80th birthday, and he's still going strong. Oscar season is not far away, and Eastwood's next release, Invictus, is already gaining buzz as a potential contender.

The trailer below is now on the web, and it looks and sounds like the trailer for every other drama released by a major studio. That said, the story looks promising: How Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) used the 1995 Rugby World Cup as a platform to address a South Africa still divided after the recent end to apartheid. He enlists the aid of Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), the captain of the South African rugby team, in an effort to unite the country.

What's refreshing is that neither Freeman nor Damon feels familiar. Although Freeman's voice is easily recognizable, it's different enough from the omnipresent voice-over narration tone we've all heard non-stop since March of the Penguins. »

Jeff Bridges: The Dude Who Stares At Goats

28 October 2009 9:01 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

November 6th will see the release of the much anticipated The Men Who Stare at Goats. The film about an army battalion of “psychic spies” stars four Hollywood’s heavyweights: George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey, and Ewan McGregor.

Although each actor is well-known and has been in stand-out movies–Spacey in American Beauty, Clooney in Ocean’s 11, and McGregor in Moulin Rouge–Bridges takes the cake for playing, arguably, one of the most memorable characters in cinema history.

Bridges has had a long acting career, getting his unofficial start as an infant in the 1950 melodrama The Company She Keeps. At nine years old, Bridges began working in television with small roles in various shows over the next several years.

His first major role came in 1971, at the age of 22, in the film The Last Picture Show. The coming of age flick was a stellar debut for Bridges, earning him »
