Sundance 2010 Non-Competition Line-Up Looks Strong

12 hours ago | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Yesterday we got the list for the films playing in competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and today we get the rest of the films that will be featured and there are quite a few that make 2010 look much stronger based on pedigree alone than I have seen in quite some time. Variety has a big write-up detailing the categories and more on the festival right here, but I am just going to offer up the titles and let you sort it all out.

The titles already in the RopeofSilicon database are linked.

Premieres

All films are from the United States unless otherwise noted Abel (Mexico-u.S.), the directorial debut of actor Diego Luna, written by Luna and Agusto Mendoza, about a peculiar young boy who, as he blurs reality and fantasy, takes over the responsibilities of a family man in his father's absence. 2010 Sundance Film Festival Out-of-Competition Line-up Announced

12 hours ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Yesterday, the Sundance Institute announced the in competition line-up for the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Today Sundance unveiled the out-of-competition line-up for the annual January fest. And I have to admit, while there isn't any huge surprises, but the line-up is pretty solid across the board. Here are a few of the films I'm particularly interested in checking out: John Wells's The Company Men, starring Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, and Tommy Lee Jones as three company men who attempt to survive a round of corporate downsizing while trying to fend off its effects on their families and their identities. Maria Bello, Chris Cooper, and Rosemarie DeWitt also star. American Splendor directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini's The Extra Man, about a down-and-out playwright who escorts wealthy widows in Manhattan's Upper East Side takes a young aspiring writer under his wing. Cast: Katie Holmes, John C. Reilly, Paul Dano, »

2010 Sundance Film Festival Out-of-Competition Films: Premieres

13 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Yesterday we gave you a list of all the films playing in-competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.  We now have the list of the films playing out-of-competition and they’re divided up into four categories: Premieres, Next, Spotlight, and Park City at Midnight. Since combining these lists would be a lot to read for just one article, we’ve broken it up to give each category its own article.

Know that while there are a lot of films playing in-competition, most of the films to get buzz will be coming from the out-of-competition categories.  First up are the premiers which include John WellsThe Company Men starring Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Costner; Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini’s The Extra Man starring Katie Holmes, John C. Reilly, and Paul Dano; Get Low starring Robert Duvall and Bill Murray; Michael Winterbottom’s The Killer Inside Me starring Casey Affleck, »

Full Sundance line-up announced...and it's a doozy!

13 hours ago | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

In addition to the competition titles which were announced yesterday, Sundance has announced the remainder of their line-up and it includes some titles we’re already familiar with along with a huge number of premieres.

Also on the docket are two new series: Next which showcases low/no budget films and Spotlight which highlights films which festival programmers deem worthy of extra love including Enter the Void (review) and Lourdes (the trailer for which I really liked).

I’m particularly excited to see some of the titles in the New Frontier program but overall, the line-up is an impressive one but the Kristen Stewart fan in me is excited to see her turn as Joan Jett in The Runaways and I think it’s fair to say we’re all dying to see Vincenzo Natali’s hotly anticipated Splice (trailer).

In the Midnight section, Adam Green's Frozen is sounding mighty find, »

Sundance '10 Announces Non-Competing Film Premieres

14 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Sundance is a celebration of independent filmmaking, but half the fun is seeing the premieres of larger films that might not come out for months, or years in some cases. In fact, the non-industry people who attend Sundance every year might not be able to tell you what documentary won the Grand Jury prize last year (it was Ondi Timoner's We Live In Public), but they're always able to tell you when they saw "that new George Clooney movie."

With that in mind, Sundance has announced the premieres that are screening out of competition. You can see a full list, complete with synopsis and cast listing for each film, just beyond the break. There's a few standouts so far, and I'd have to say my most eagerly anticipated is The Company Men, where Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper and others have to survive corporate downsizing. »

Sundance Film Festival 2010: The Rest of the Line-Up

14 hours ago | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Yesterday we were happy to bring you the Competition Line-Up for the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, which we'll be covering in January live from Park City, Utah. And today we've got the rest of the films, including the Premieres, Spotlight, Next, Park City at Midnight and New Frontier selections. Among the premieres are several major titles, including John Wells' The Company Men, starring Casey Affleck, Kevin Costner, Maria Bello and Tommy Lee Jones. Also, another Casey Affleck led cast in Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me. Philip Seymour Hoffman will make his directorial debut with Jack Goes Boating, and the John Lennon teen years feature Nowhere Boy, starring Aaron Johnson, will also make its premiere. The big premieres are one thing, but where Sundance has really been great the past few years is in the discovered films of the Spotlight and Park City at Midnight categories. Last year, Park City at Midnight delivered films such as »

Bollywood Courts Helen Mirren, Tom Hanks For Biopic to End All Biopics

· Helen Mirren, Tom Hanks and Tommy Lee Jones are among the Oscarrific stars reportedly in talks to join Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story, a long-gestating, Bollywood-produced biopic of the former Indian prime minister who was assassinated in 1984. Mirren would reprise her signature role as Queen Elizabeth II, while Hanks and Jones would take on the roles of -- deep breath -- Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. Respectively. Emily Watson and Albert Finney may also drop in as Margaret Thatcher and Peter Ustinov, the latter of whom was awaiting an audience with Gandhi when she was killed. "Queen of Bollywood" Madhuri Dixit is attached to the title role, having narrowly edged out this year's ambitious awards-season lock Sandra Bullock. [Telegraph via The Wrap]

Dame Helen Mirren, who won the 2006 Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, will be stepping into the queen’s royal shoes once again.

Although this time the queen will be a supporting role rather than the focus, Mirren will be playing Queen Elizabeth II in Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story. The film is a biopic about Indira Gandhi’s time as prime minister of India until she was assassinated in 1984.

The film will be directed by Krishna Shah, who says of his attachment to the film: “It took me years to find a way into her story, but I found it with her role as a mother – both to her family and to a nation with its teeming millions. Indira was India.” Shah hasn’t directed since 1985, but has been working on perfecting Mother’s script for the past 20 years.

WENN says that the always stunning Dame Helen Mirren will be walking Queen Elizabeth.s corgis yet again, but this time just as support in Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story. She played the Queen and received an Oscar for the role in 2006.s The Queen. Mother will be a biopic chronicling Indira Gandhi.s career as the Indian (dots not feathers) Prime Minister up until her assassination in 1984. A star studded cast will surround director Krishna Shah, who must have performed some sort of magical enchantment on the producers who hired him because his resume is short and unused since 1985. Other big guns being courted to fill some important 1980.s political shoes are Tom Hanks and Tommy Lee Jones to play Lyndon B. Johnson and Tricky Dick Nixon respectively, while the titular role will go to Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit. Shah has been perfecting the script for nearly 20 years so »

Mirren to Play The Queen Again in Star-Studded Biopic?

30 November 2009 3:03 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The legendary Helen Mirren may once again be serving crown and country as Queen Elizabeth II. WENN is reporting that Mirren is being called upon to play the once and current queen in Mother: The Indira Ghandi Story, a biopic about the Indian prime minister who was asassinated in 1984.

Tom Hanks and Tommy Lee Jones are also reportedly in talks to play Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon, respectively, while Emily Watson is attached to play the formidable Margaret Thatcher. Director Krishna Shah calls it "the project of my life" so one hopes this could actually come together for him with this kind of cast. The film is scheduled to be released in 2010, which seems a bit too optimistic with so many schedules to coordinate, but we'll see.

Obviously, this should be filed firmly under "rumor," but it's an intriguing prospect. Indira Ghandi is certainly long overdue for a biopic, »

Indira Gandhi, India's first and only female Prime Minister, is getting a much-deserved biopic, and big name actors are being wooed for star-studded cameos.
