Pattinson Gives Tentative Breaking Dawn Date

7 November 2009 6:58 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Yesterday, the press junket for The Twilight Saga: New Moon went down and a few websites were there to ask the cast and crew questions about the popular vampire series.  While it’s clear from the rundowns that publicists were a bit restrictive on what couldn’t be asked, Collider managed to fire the last question at Robert Pattinson.

Frosty, who always provides reliable coverage at these events, asked when fans could tentatively expect Summit Entertainment to start shooting Breaking Dawn.  Pattinson replied, “I think the tentative time for Breaking Dawn is fall next year.  They may well change that.”

Obviously not much to go on, but more of a response than Kristen Stewart, who wasn’t allowed to address the rumor of the fourth Stephenie Meyer novel being split into two movies.  Of course, this will depend on the continued success of the movies, but judging from the pre-sales and the expanding fandom, »

Jamie Campbell Bower Compares His Twilight and Harry Potter Experiences

7 November 2009 2:07 PM, PST | movies.about.com | See recent movies.about.com news »

Name the two biggest film franchises currently in production. Now name one actor who's in both. Jamie Campbell Bower (best known for his role alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd) is fortunate enough to be a supporting player in the second Twilight movie, New Moon, and in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. Bower plays Caius, a member of the Volturi, in New Moon, a role he'll reprise if/when the final Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, is made into a movie. And in Harry Potter #7 and #8 Campbell Bower portrays Gellert Grindelwald, a character who makes his first appearance in the series as the Harry Potter franchise winds to a close.

"He's an old friend of Dumbledore's, a possible lover," offered Campbell Bower at the La press day for New Moon.

Review: 'Justice League the Complete Series'

7 November 2009 8:00 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

For those who only knew the Justice League of America as the Super Friends must have been in for a rude awakening when they sat to watch the Justice League animated series with their kids. From 2001 through 2006, the Cartoon Network offered up what has since gone on to be recognized as the greatest comics adaptation of all time.

Super-heroes moving from the printed page to animated film have had a checkered path from Filmation’s 1966 Superman through Ruby-Spears’ 1988 effort with the Man of Steel. In between, there were some highlights such as 1968’s Spider-Man and some really low moments including the 1977 Batman show. The problem is that super-heroes need conflict in which to use their powers and abilities. With every passing year, parents fretted over the amount of violence their children were expose to, coupled with concerns over the kids imitating the exploits in real life and causing themselves harm. »

Vulture have been given a preview of Tim Burton's MoMA retrospective exhibition. Two of their 33 gallery images are above. Page 3 is the eccentric little brother of Page 2 and compiles even more stories which, for whatever reason, didn’t make the front page of /Film. There’s a whole heap of different items after the break - video clips, posters, pictures, odd snippets of news. Below is the poster for Tom Ford's directorial debut A Single Man. Take a good look at Colin Firth here, on his way to an Oscar and Julianne Moore, already arrived at being reason enough to see a film just by herself. The NY Times have taken a look at plans for Mickey Mouse's makeover. It will start with Warren Spector's Wii game Epic Mickey (can't wait) and move on through a "parallel but separate effort" at Disney to rethink Mickey's persona. »

MTV: Jamie Campbell Bower Gives His Opinion On Directors For 'Breaking Dawn'

5 November 2009 10:45 PM, PST | twilightersanonymous.com | See recent TwilightersAnonymous news »

Jamie Campbell Bower sat down with Eric Ditzian from MTV and gave his very funny response on who he thinks should direct Breaking Dawn. Jamie even admits that hes not sure if fans would approve of his choice but he certainly thinks it would be good.Movie Trailers Movies BlogI think Jamie is teasing us perhaps forgetting how large the fan base really is for The Twilight Saga. Tim Burton would be an interesting choice he could definitely handle the fantasy part of the story. But overall Im personally going to stick with Chris Weitz! What do you think of Jamies opinions of directors for Breaking Dawn? »

'Twilight' star Jamie Campbell Bower wants Tim Burton to direct 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn'

5 November 2009 8:47 PM, PST | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

Jamie Campbell Bower, who portrays Caius in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has not, it seems, forgotten the source of his big break in the film industry. You might remember him as Anthony in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, and, if you do, you'll know that it was director Tim Burton (as well as the minor detail of phenomenal castmates like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter) that ushered in Bower's career as a film star. Since then, of course, Bower has continued to make a name for himself with roles in films like RocknRolla (by Guy Ritchie) and Winter In Wartime. He's also been cast as the elusive Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part I and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II. Yet, when MTV interviewer Eric Ditzian asked Bower who he'd pick as director of the not-yet-officially-greenlit The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (which, »

Tim Burton Suggested for 'The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn'

5 November 2009 6:58 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Question on who will direct "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn" should it is materialized is still left unanswered, but actor Jamie Campbell Bower has an idea whom he wants to see behind the lens for the project. In an interview with MTV news, the Caius depicter in "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" rallies behind director Tim Burton for the part.

"It'd be cool if Burton came and did 'Breaking Dawn'," the 20-year-old voiced his mind. He further said of what the "Sweeney Todd" director may bring, "I think he'd just change it up. I think he'd screw around with it quite a lot, and aesthetically, I think it'd be incredibly different. I don't know if the fans would like it, but I'd sure like it."

Before Bower spoke about Burton, the name of Chris Weitz had been flying around for potential director. Though so, the helmer of the much awaited »

Who Should Direct 'Breaking Dawn'? Tim Burton!

5 November 2009 1:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From MTV.Com: Tim Burton digs supernatural stories: the goth-comic ghost tale of "Beetlejuice," the headless killer from the great beyond in "Sleepy Hollow," the undead love story of "Corpse Bride." In a way, Burton knows vampires too, resurrecting Bela Lugosi — the definitive cinematic Count Dracula — in the Oscar-winning biopic "Ed Wood."

All of this has made "New Moon" vampire Jamie Campbell Bower think that Burton should direct "Breaking Dawn," the expected film adaptation of the final book in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series.

Danny DeVito Visits An Old Friend In Today's Daily TwitPic

5 November 2009 6:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This morning's Daily TwitPic is a little bit deep cut. You should know who Danny DeVito is. Even if you're not old enough to remember comedy classics like "Twins," "Ruthless People" or "Batman Returns" (he was The Penguin!), not to mention the hit TV series "Taxi," he's still sitting in the public eye thanks to the success of FX series "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." It isn't too sunny in Philly this morning though. Go Yanks!

But I digress. Today's Daily TwitPic sees DeVito sitting down for a photo op with an old friend, perennial "that guy" actor Tracey Walter. Seriously, you've seen him before. Walter actually beat DeVito to the "Batman" franchise, playing The Joker's top henchman in the first movie, directed by Tim Burton. He has appeared with DeVito in a number of films though, including the awesome, ridiculously underrated dark comedy "Death to Smoochy."

Depp to Co-Star with Jolie in ‘The Tourist’

4 November 2009 7:14 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Johnny Depp is in talks to replace Sam Worthington in The Tourist, Spy Entertainment’s thriller that just got a whole lot more interesting.

If he signs, he would play the title role, an American mixed up in an international operation to bring down a global criminal.  The traveler crosses paths with the thief’s stunning girlfriend, who uses him to throw off authorities.  Angelina Jolie is attached to the play the femme fatale character.

That’s a pretty great combination for an otherwise average-looking premise, but it beats the earlier alternative when Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron were on board together.

Worthington and possible director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck both left the project in the last month over “creative differences,” according to Variety, though neither were officially signed yet.  Nikki Finke’s sources say Donnersmarck was “difficult and demanding.”  The producers are considering other filmmakers now, including Alfonso Cuaron »

'The Tourist' Now Looks to Team Up Jolie and Depp

4 November 2009 5:50 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Wow, the production of The Tourist is quite the bumpy ride as recently announced director Florian von Donnersmarck and Tom Cruise replacement and Avatar star, Sam Worthington, have both left the production citing creative differences leaving Angelina Jolie all on her own... at least for a brief moment as Variety is now reporting Johnny Depp is in talks to fill in for Worthington and star alongside Jolie in the now director-less thriller.

Should things work out, Depp would play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue and danger by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) as she attempts to locate a criminal who was once her lover.

With the director's chair wide open, Variety's Mike Fleming reports there are names already circling the project, including Children of Men helmer Alfonso Cuaron.

At one point this was a film with Bharat Nalluri directing Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron, which then »

Lucy Dahl Says Screenwriter Melissa Mathison Trying to Adapt Bfg (Big Friendly Giant) For Producer Kathleen Kennedy

4 November 2009 4:11 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Earlier today I participated in a roundtable interview with Roald Dahl’s daughter, Lucy Dahl, for the movie “Fantastic Mr. Fox”.  Since so many of Dahl’s books have not been made into movies, we asked his daughter if she’s heard about any progress in bringing them to life.   The main thing she told us was…many people ask the Dahl estate to make movies, but they are very selective in what they will allow.

But while many of his books have never been optioned by Hollywood, she told us the hot book right now is “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”. She then told us that producer Kathleen Kennedy has the rights to “Bfg” (Big Friendly Giant) and screenwriter Melissa Mathison (”E.T.”, “The Black Stallion”) has recently written a draft that has gone over well.  Of course writing a draft that people like doesn’t mean it’s a go project, »

Interview: 50 Years of Filmmaking With Martin Landau

2 November 2009 2:30 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The legendary Martin Landau was recently in Chicago with two films in special presentation at The 45th Annual Chicago International Film Festival - the classic “North by Northwest,” also releasing on Blu-Ray tomorrow, November 3rd, 2009, and the new drama “Lovely, Still,” co-starring Ellen Burstyn.

Very few actors will ever have an experience like Mr. Landau did at the film festival in October, bringing two experiences from such different eras of their working life. We spent a lot of time with Martin discussing what’s important to him as an actor and he made clear that it’s the arc of his character that’s essential to the projects he chooses.

Landau explains, “The interesting thing is that I’ve had an interesting cross-section of directors - Joe Mankiewicz, George Stevens, Henry Hathaway, George Marshall, Tim Burton, Francis Coppola, Woody Allen, Steve Spielberg. The good directors create a playground for »

"Planet Of The Apes" To Be Screened At Pinewood Studios November 14

2 November 2009 7:01 AM, PST | Cinemaretro.com | See recent CinemaRetro news »

Pinewood Studios has recently initiated a program that allows the public to attend screenings of films at the legendary British venue that is ordinarily strictly off-limits to those who are not in the movie industry. The Drive-In movie night is expanding with a variety of contemporary and classic movies being screened outdoors. The program is exciting and admirable, but the studio realized something was wrong when ticket sales proved virtually non-existent for a screening of Planet of the Apes. Enter Apes fan Simon Graham who alerted studio brass to the fact that the mistake was in announcing that the film to be screened would be Tim Burton's 2001 remake, not the beloved 1968 classic. To the studio's credit, they are now showing the original Charlton Heston starrer. The date is November 14 and you can get more information and tickets by clicking here. Graham also runs an active web-based community for fans »

Review: 9 – ragtag and pretty rubbish

2 November 2009 1:49 AM, PST | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

It’s difficult to tell what exactly 9 wants to be. It has ‘cute’, miniature characters made from cloth sacking and mannequin parts. It has a post-apocalyptic setting. It has some loosely adult themes and some over the top action sequences. It mixes science, magic, religion and politics, and examines the human condition by distilling it into its distinct parts. And yet it manages to be entirely unoriginal, underwritten, frustrating, clichéd, patronising and Lazy. With a capital L. In a world ravaged by a war between Man and Machine, the scientist who made the first mechanical brain behind the conflict separates his soul into nine parts. He gives each part to a little figurine which he has made. He is also the Last Human Alive, but dies when his soul is split. The 9th figurine (called 9, and voiced by Elijah Wood) awakens in his master’s crumbling house, finds him dead, »

Christopher Lee is knighted

31 October 2009 11:27 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Yesterday the man who played Count Dracula in dozens of Hammer horror films throughout the 1950s through the 70s stared down a man wielding a sword. However, instead of having to worry about being stabbed through his heart actor Christopher Lee was standing in front of Prince Charles and being given an Order of the British Empire -- he was knighted.

The 87-year-old Lee was being honored for his contribution to cinema. At the height of his time wearing white makeup and brandishing fangs toward the necks of quivering British ladies, Hammer horror movies were considered garbage cinema. While they recouped their investment and proved to be popular among the blue-collar crowd, British cinephiles turned up their nose and proclaimed the films as trash. Now, half a century later, a more kinder and appreciative generation of film critics have recognized Hammer horror movies and the important role they played in »

Movies That Make Me Think of Halloween

30 October 2009 9:51 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Recycled Film Experience! I wrote some of this in advance -- years in advance in fact -- to free up time to enjoy this costume crazed holiday. I originally published this list in 2005, but I've tweaked it some. Plus, not all of you were around in 2005. Herewith, the top 12 movies that remind me of Halloween. It's a top ten list and it's not even Tuesday. I'm so generous.

12 The Batman franchise (1989-2008)

In 1997 I went out Halloween clubbing as the Uma version of Poison Ivy. Whenever you dress up as a movie character the year the movie comes out, you'll have competition. There was another Poison Ivy there but I buried her, I promise. I had the horns and all the details, see. It was the longest I ever spent getting ready for Halloween (which is saying something): glue guns, orange wigs, fake foliage, you name it. I don't try as hard anymore. »

Once Upon A Time, Fabio Was 'Thor'

29 October 2009 2:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

You kids today, with your Marvel Studios and your top-notch directors. Many of you are too young to remember just what ugly treatments comic books received in the 1980s and 1990s. Oh sure, there was Tim Burton's Batman, but treatments like David Hasselhoff's Nick Fury: Agent of Shield were the norm. When a Thor movie was kicked around, the only requirement was muscles and blonde hair. In the 1990s, there was one man that fit that description: Fabio.

A funny little flashback has surfaced on Colleen Doran's blog, which has prompted a delightful trip back in time at Mania. In 1997, Fabio decided that he wanted to play Thor, so he approached animation director Seth Kearsley, and they cooked up a storyline with the help of Henry Gilroy. As Mania points out, this was not a Marvel movie , but it casually borrowed a few elements. The result, pictured to your right, »
