[TV] Justice League: The Complete Series

6 November 2009 8:30 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

Eek! A First Look at the New Freddy Krueger Toys

5 November 2009 5:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Horror fans will be slipping back into a new Nightmare on Elm Street on April 30th, 2010, but we're already being teased with new Freddy Krueger toys, thanks to Entertainment Earth and Mezco Toyz. You can buy a little Freddy of your own in plastic or vinyl next April just in time for Jackie Earle Haley's debut as the mutilated monster who haunts our dreams.

The first question I had when I saw the plastic toy was, why does he look like those little dolls with dried apple heads that are sold at craft fairs by sweet grandmas? But thanks to a wily blogger over at Albotas and the wonders of Photoshop, you can see that Earle Haley's Freddy definitely looks more like this toy than Robert Englund's Freddy.

I'm not sure which I prefer -- the menacing creep with a big smile or the flat-faced, expressionless killer. An »

Agent Adam Isaacs Coulda Been 'V' Lizard

4 November 2009 2:54 PM, PST | Deadline Hollywood | See recent Deadline Hollywood news »

The premiere of the Warner Bros show V on ABC has brought back some memories for Wme agent Adam Isaacs. As he told me years ago, "I auditioned to be a guest lizard named Howie -- a sort of Jewish guest lizard -- on the original V. And it was during my third callback that I decided 'I don't think I can do this,' and I didn't want to be an actor anymore. And that sent me from La back to NY and into the William Morris training program. Robert Englund [aka Freddy Krueger] got the part, and when I saw his performance, I thought, 'I so could [...] »

Post Halloween Special Part 3: Freddy Krueger vs Me

3 November 2009 12:29 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s a bit late but to finally end my Halloween champion Slasher report on who is the king out of Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger,  I have watched the entire back catalogue of their films and given a run down on each characters franchise story and best kills.

Part 1 was on Jason, Part 2 was Michael Myers and finally Part 3 is on the killing Dream Demon Freddy Krueger.

Set on Elm Street, Freddy is the reason I struggled to sleep through the late 80’s due to being terrified of him visiting me in my dreams.

Beware pictures of blood, a lot of gushing blood and other violent deaths.

And so a little rhyme to begin this story:

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you.

Three, Four, Better Lock your door.

Five, Six, grab your Crucifix.

Seven, Eight, Gonna stay up late.

Nine, Ten, Never sleep again.

Exclusive: Robert Englund - Checking into Fear Clinic Part II

3 November 2009 12:51 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

For someone like Robert Englund, whose character of Freddy Krueger became legendary in the pop culture lexicon, you'd think he'd relish the opportunity to step out from behind the mask (or make-up) in the FEARnet web series "Fear Clinic."

However, despite his long career, the actor still gets apprehensive about using his own visage on film.

Englund said, "What's really funny for me is that most people think that the makeup is restrictive for me (or even Kane), but it really isn't. In fact, I almost prefer being creative in makeup as opposed to just being myself on screen."

"I can do so much more with a character like Freddy than I can with a normal-looking guy in a suit. It's like the makeup brings out the character inside you and just pushes you beyond what you normally do when you're performing. I can change my voice and move differently. »

According to the actor, Willis plays the man who hires Stallone and his titular team for "a death-defying mission," but there's another operative that could take on the job — none other than Stallone's longtime rival, played by Schwarzenegger. "I talked about this scene with these guys for a long time, but I never thought it would come to fruition," said Stallone. (PopWatch)

New Freddy promises a deeper Nightmare on Elm Street

29 October 2009 12:12 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Jackie Earle Haley has promised a "deeper" 'Nightmare on Elm Street' remake.

The actor is set to play Robert Englund's iconic character Freddy Krueger in the forthcoming movie and says filmmakers have done their best to pay homage to the horror franchise while still offering a fresh angle.

He said: "I think the glove is pretty familiar. It's really important for us, I think, as we're re-imagining this that there is a good, strong sense of new and fresh -- yet there's some recognisability, you know?

"A lot of what was in that first movie is also in this movie, as far as the structure of it and how it plays out. It's a little bit deeper; we dove into

Freddy's background a little bit more. "It's a very similar background to what we know about him. But we dove into it a little bit more. I think it's »

'Nightmare On Elm Street' New Freddy Krueger Thanks Fans For Casting

For decades, Hollywood cast the person they thought would bring in the most money for a movie role, often resulting in some odd choices (Vince Vaughn in "Psycho," Kevin Costner in "Robin Hood," Keanu Reeves in virtually everything) that were largely rejected by audiences. But now, it's the 21st century, and the Internet has made film more of a conversation than a monologue. From Michael Chiklis as The Thing in "Fantastic Four" to Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in "Wolverine," several high-profile castings of the last few years have begun online — and Jackie Earle Haley couldn't be happier.

Elm Street's New Mom, Connie Britton, Talks Remake

28 October 2009 6:02 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Connie Britton, who plays Nancy's mom in Samuel Bayer's re-imagining of the Wes Craven classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, is never one to mince words, and she had some really interesting things to say about the new film. Curious? We know you are.

In a recent interview with The New York Post Britton had this to say:

"You are going to be shocked to hear this; I'd never seen 'Elm Street' before we started shooting. Isn't that funny?" adding that it was her intention to give her a fresh take on the character. "That was my intention, but also because I'm a scaredy cat," she tells the Post. "I've known Rob Zombie for a long time and he's always been telling me, 'Connie, you gotta make a horror movie!' But I was still too chicken. But when I heard Jackie Earle Haley was doing Freddy, I thought that this was the time. »

Exclusive: 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' Remake Brings A Freddy Krueger Who Is 'A Bit More Serious'

28 October 2009 7:30 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The quote above comes from Jackie Earle Haley, who will terrorize the nightmares of teens as Freddy Krueger in director Samuel Bayer's remake of the classic Wes Craven horror flick, "A Nightmare on Elm Street." It is a role that was previously brought to life by Robert Englund, who chews scenery with the best.

"You know, I think my Freddy is just a bit more serious," Haley told MTV's Vanessa White Wolf during an on-set interview. As fans well know, later versions of Englund's take on Krueger skewed heavily towards slapstick horror as opposed to overt creepiness.

From the sound of things, the "Nightmare" remake will take horror back to its roots. Which isn't to say that Freddy the jokester will be absent if the rebooted series continues forward. "He's not much of a comedian," Haley said. "But I'm working on my tap dancing lessons, just in case they do a sequel. »

'Nightmare On Elm Street' Reboot Goes 'A Bit Deeper,' Jackie Earle Haley Says

Oscar-nominated actor tells MTV News his Freddy Krueger is 'not much of a comedian.'

Don't believe that Freddy Krueger is one of the greatest icons of modern pop culture? Or that Wes Craven's 1984 horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street" will be remembered far longer than many of that decade's Oscar winners? For proof, look no further than your own doorstep Saturday night — and all the scarred, razor-clawed, striped-sweater-wearing baddies you'll see begging for your Butterfingers.

Now, "Watchmen" star Jackie Earle Haley is stepping into the dreams of "Nightmare" fans worldwide, answering their call to succeed Robert Englund as the new Freddy. And the questions surrounding his April 2010 unveiling are as obvious as Freddy's hatred for teenagers: What will be different, and what will he keep the same?
