Hawn Welcomes Hudson's Beau Into Family

3 December 2009 12:01 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Kate Hudson feels sure mum Goldie Hawn will welcome boyfriend Alex Rodriguez with open arms when they meet for the first time - because the veteran actress has loved every boyfriend her daughter has brought home.

The Almost Famous beauty was married to rocker Chris Robinson and has dated cycling champion Lance Armstrong and actor Owen Wilson, and she never worries about her mother's reaction when she introduces her to a new beau.

Hudson tells Harper's Bazaar magazine, "My mother never shook anybody's hand; she has kissed and hugged her way through life. (My family had) an open-door policy. We were never afraid to bring the wrong person home. They were always open to our failures."

But the once-open actress admits she has learned to keep quiet about her romances - because tabloids can't help but speculate about her love life.

She adds, "If I walk out on the street with any man, I'm dating him. I've been 'dating' two of my best friends from high school, who are, like, girls to me." »

Goldie Hawn fought back tears when she visited Kate Hudson on the set of movie musical Nine - because seeing her daughter dance made her so proud.

The Almost Famous beauty stars alongside a top cast, including Penelope Cruz, Dame Judi Dench and Nicole Kidman, in the highly-anticipated film, and she invited her mum along to watch the shoot.

And Hawn, who began her career her as a dancer, was overwhelmed when she saw her beloved daughter take centre stage.

Movie of Susan Boyle's life should star Andie MacDowell and Pierce Brosnan (IrishCentral)

Susan Boyle's brother Gerry has said he believes a movie of her life will be made and that he'd like Kathy Bates to play the Scottish star. Gerry told RadarOnline.com that he would not be "surprised in the least if there was a film made" of his sister's life, adding he would "personally like to see Kathy Bates play my sister." if she wasn't available Gerry would like British actress Brenda Blethyn to play the role. The story comes amid persistent reports that "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell will be making a film about the 48-year-old Scottish singer. Can't say I agree. At 61 Kathy Bates would be 13 years older than Susan Boyle and is unfortunately well past her prime. Since playing Molly Brown in the Titanic movie she has hardly figured in Hollywood. I'm afraid Gerry Boyle is doing his sister no favors here How about Andi MacDowell? The »

Could Carla Bruni be the next Mia Farrow?

France's first lady has agreed to be in a Woody Allen film. She's such an obvious choice, we should have predicted it

Why on earth didn't we predict it long ago? France's first lady, Carla Bruni, has revealed that Woody Allen has asked her to be in one of his films, despite her complete lack of acting experience. And she has said yes.

Bruni – of course! She is a quintessential Minor Woody Allen Character: sexy, wealthy, European in that luxury-hotel sense that he adores, liberated in a pre-feminist sort of way, with creative aspirations that are preposterous but which powerful, besotted men might well indulge in the hope of getting inside her exquisitely tailored culottes.

Bruni is the classic unattainable woman from a golden-age Woody Allen picture: the sort who might get a party-scene cameo, towering sexily over him while giving her deadpan opinions on literary or artistic topics – opinions with which he, »

Rodriguez's New York Yankees triumphed in the series against the Philadelphia Phillies - and Hudson was at the games to show her support.

She often showed up with her mother Goldie Hawn's actor lover Kurt Russell.

And A-Rod has shown his gratitude by buying his girl a new Louis Vuitton white-gold ring set with pink sapphires and diamonds.

An insider tells In Touch magazine, "He has a World Series ring, and now she does, too. It’s a beautiful piece of jewellery and very unusual... He clearly knows her style and has great taste... She thought it was such a romantic gesture." »

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin Set to Host Academy Awards

4 November 2009 5:49 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Although it was rumored this week that Neil Patrick Harris would be hosting the 82nd Academy Awards next year (which in my opinion would have been a perfect choice), instead we’re getting a comedic duo in the form of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

This sort of worries me, though. Martin and Baldwin are both obviously very talented comedic actors, but will having co-hosts interrupt the flow of the show, will one overpower the other? I don’t know how aptly Baldwin can improvise on stage, beyond the Saturday Night Live sketches that he has performed. I suppose time will tell.

This could really be a huge boost to the ratings for the Oscars. Martin draws a family crowd, while Baldwin will certainly hook in the 30 Rock-sters (as if they wouldn’t watch already). This is the first time the show has had multiple hosts since 1987, when hosted by Chevy Chase, »

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to Host Oscars

4 November 2009 12:25 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Hugh Jackman, just a few days ago, refused a repeat performance as Oscar host. Yesterday, Cinema Blend reported that Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. had also been offered the job, but turned it down.

The report closed on a positive note, citing that at least the choice indicated a push towards a younger, hipper direction. In retrospect, this statement is as funny as it is wrong. Why? Because the Academy announced a short time later that its choices for next year's hosts are ... Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

Scratch your head. Raise a furrowed brow. Begin discussions of all the odd-couple pairings in TV and movie history. Producer Bill Mechanic had this to say about the selections, made with co-producer Adam Shankman:

Adam and I, from our first meeting on, knew we wanted an emphasis on comedy. If we err in any one direction, we want to take »

And the Oscars Hosting Duties Go to… Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin!

3 November 2009 8:37 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Step off that ledge Oscar fans, even though Hugh Jackman has declined to return to this year's event, the show will go on. Today we've learned via the La Times that Steve Martin, a veteran host of the ceremony, and Alec Baldwin, a newcomer, will be sharing the hosting duties for the 82nd Academy Awards. Says Martin: “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.” In the Jackman news I mused that perhaps the Academy would want to revisit their past trend of sharing the hosting duties (which they're also doing with the increased best picture noms), and now that it's actually happened I'm finding the news makes me a bit more excited for this years ceremony than usual. The last time we saw multiple hosts was in 1986 when Chevy Chase, Paul Hogan, and Goldie Hawn shared the task. Multiple hosts were also featured in several »

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin Are 2010 Oscars' Hosts

After bringing music to the 2009 Oscars' stage with Hugh Jackman, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will have more than one host for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. On Tuesday, November 3, the show's telecast producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman announced the designation of Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin as the co-hosts of the 2010 Oscars.

The hosting job will be Baldwin's first, but Martin's third. The latter has had the privileged of being the master of ceremony for the 73rd and 75th Academy Awards shows. Despite the fact that it will be Baldwin's first, it isn't his first stint at the awards show. The "30 Rock" star had once served as a presenter in 2003.

Of the match-up of the two actors, Shankman and Mechanic said, "We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars." They furthermore added, "Steve will bring the »

Cinematical Seven: '80s Military Recruitment Movies

3 November 2009 7:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

We live in a time when war movies based on toys (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) are better received by the public than those that have a basis in truth (The Hurt Locker). G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, out on DVD and Blu-ray today, dances around its origins as military action figures by positioning its heroes as an elite unit, more like well-armed spies than anything resembling common soldiers. The aim appears to be similar, though: provide heroic figures that inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

Back in the 80s, movies that could be mistaken for recruitment propaganda became surprisingly common. The film industry, which had firmly resisted anything related directly to the Vietnam War while it was being waged, became schizophrenic in the 80s, releasing anti-war and pro-war flicks side by side into theaters. Here are seven key films, listed chronologically, »
