First Look: Jessica Alba in ‘Machete’

4 November 2009 5:34 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

The American Film Market is going on this week in Santa Monica and a few sites are squeezing every morsel of news from the event.  Two sites nabbed a picture of a Machete one sheet featuring Jessica Alba as “Sartana.”  It just looks like Alba with a gun in her hand, but you won’t hear any complaining from me.

The rest of the posters were locked away, but the wild cast also includes Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, and Rose McGowanRobert Rodriguez shot the expanded Grindhouse trailer in August here in Austin, TX.  It’s set for distribution April 16, 2010 by Sony Pictures.

This image comes from ComingSoon.net, but it should be noted Bloody-Disgusting snapped their own version as well:

First stills from Gregg Araki's Twin Peaks tinged, over-sexed scifi romp Kaboom

4 November 2009 1:07 PM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

Gregg Araki's wild, over-sexed and slightly apocalyptic cult movies defined the nineties indie movement as much as the work of Steven Soderbergh or Quentine Tarantino. They were ripe with outsider sentiment and were insanely sophisticated in terms of presenting gen-x youth culture in action. Not only that but you gotta give the man props for introducing us to many of our favorite sex kittens - The Doom Generation's Rose McGowan and, of course, his Nowhere brought us Denise Richards.

His new film is called Kaboom and it brings together Thomas Dekker (of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles fame), Kelly Lynch, Rooney Mara, Roxane Mesquida in a film that sounds like classic Araki, but with a scifi twist. And for the Araki fans out there, yes James Duval is in this film too.

Synopsis:

A hyper-stylized Twin Peaks for the Coachella Generation, featuring a gorgeous, super hot young cast, »

'Scream 4' Writer Kevin Williamson Reveals Exclusive Details

'We'll have our three main characters,' he says of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette.

In 1996, "Scream" came out of nowhere to bring the horror genre back from the dead like Michael Myers sitting up after a coat hanger to the eyeball. Acclaimed as the smartest horror film in years, it yielded a trilogy that would gross hundreds of millions of dollars and clear a path for dozens of self-aware genre flicks ranging from "Zombieland" to "Adaptation."

Now, it's getting ready to come back again for another stab.

"It's going good," said writer Kevin Williamson, giving us an exclusive update on the new trilogy (!) he's writing. "I've gotta finish that baby."

The series made box-office stars out of Neve Campbell, Jamie Kennedy and Skeet Ulrich as they were teamed alongside Drew Barrymore, Patrick Dempsey, Heather Graham and others in twisty, »

Review: Nip/Tuck - Briggitte Reinholt

(S06E03) "I don't know... she must've thought I was someone else." - Teddy

Season six of Nip/Tuck, congratulations -- you have arrived. After two enjoyable, but largely disposable episodes to start the season, the focus has finally returned to the one dangling plot from season five -- Rose McGowan's Dr. Teddy Rowe. While it took some guesswork to recall everything the two-faced (three-faced?) anesthesiologist has done (the "previously on" sequence lacked anything to jog your memory since the season five Teddy was played by Katee Sackhoff), "Briggitte Reinholt" did a pretty decent job of explaining her past sins.

‘Red Sonja’ director turns to new comedy ‘The Black Phantom’

20 October 2009 10:13 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

New writers Dave Lease and Megan Hinds have sold their spec script for The Black Phantom, a comedy in which a “double-crossed Caucasian mob hitman turns for help to an unlikely source: the title character, an African-American hitman who was hired to kill him.”

Newcomer Doug Aarniokoski will direct the feature with Will Packer producing.

Aarniokoski was the orginally supposed to make his debut with the ill-fated Red Sonja reboot but the production has drifted into limbo. In September, Rose Mcgowan, who was slated to play the fierce female warrior, tweeted the following:

“Just this once i’ll address questions about Red Sonja&others;i was meant to do in ‘08.”

“Major personal &private;reasons I pulled out.Starting 2 want to work again. Sometimes real life f*cking sucks. That’s all. God bless us survivors.”

“To clarify press reports: Red Sonja is delayed. I pulled out of doing it in ‘09. Not permanently. »

Fall Frights: Grindhouse (Film Review)

20 October 2009 1:16 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

Originally published, 04/01/2007

In the Robert Rodriguez-scripted/directed first of its two conjoined movies, Grindhouse is the ultimate sugar rush for horror fans, a high-calorie, low-nutrition blast of cheap thrills wrought on a big budget. In the second, Quentin Tarantino upends the framework and traditions of exploitation fare to craft a film that’s just as much a showcase for his gift of (writing) gab as it is for action. And in both Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof, a love and respect shines through for the B-movie tradition that too many others “homage” with snarky irony. The wholeheartedness with which they express their devotion to the form almost amounts to a kind of innocence, and for all the explicit mayhem on screen, »

TV Review: Final Season of ‘Nip/Tuck’ Starts With Lackluster Premiere

14 October 2009 10:39 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Let’s be honest: “Nip/Tuck” has been in need of a face lift for years. The show arguably jumped the shark when The Carver took over (in season three) and has never quite looked the same since. Even with the sizable flaws of the last two seasons, “Nip/Tuck” was never boring. It even showed flashes of creator Ryan Murphy’s occasional genius in the seasons since.

But the premiere of season six, which will be the show’s last, hints at a team that has grown weary of their own creation. Dull, confusing, and simply uninteresting, “Nip/Tuck” looks like it might go out with a whimper instead of a bang.

Television Rating: 2.5/5.0

The premiere of season six, “Don Hoberman,” raises more questions than anything else. And not questions about where it’s going but about what the hell happened. Firstly, who thought that Katee Sackhoff (“Battlestar Galactica »

Death Becomes Her: The Best (and Easiest) Movie-Inspired Halloween Costumes.

11 October 2009 10:01 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Leave the Scream Mask at home, this Halloween Sound on Sight has you covered. Before asking "Why so serious?" with a grin only Heath Ledger can really pull off and unlike the thousands of others who will try this Halloween (like last, and like the ones to come) why not browse through other films for a more unique and obscure, generic or fun reference. Also, unless it's an ironic Eddie Murphy-vampire in Brooklyn costume, I beg you to refrain from the pointy teeth whether or not it's Twilight-intentional. The following are bound to win you some sort of prize. Most Creative Any major character from Robert Vadim's 1968 classic, Barbarella. You could be Pygar, the blind angel who has lost his will to fly; a costume that only requires a pair of wings, a cloth and a lost, apathetic facial expression. Jason Reitman On 'Ghostbusters 3,' Frightened Rabbit And Elizabeth Taylor In Today's Twitter-Wood

9 October 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

You know how you feel when you look at one of those blogs with all of the cute and fuzzy kitten pictures? Twitter-Wood's sort of like that today with good news following Elizabeth Taylor's heart surgery, Emmy Rossum with cotton candy, Paris Hilton with a monkey, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's happy breakfast picture.

All of those pics come in addition to an announcement by Jason Reitman that "Ghostbusters" fans should not want him to direct "Ghostbusters 3," as well as an on-set shot of Rainn Wilson with the band Frightened Rabbit, who recently got a tour of the office used in "The Office." Click on down to check out those posts and more. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter-Wood report for October 9, 2009.

Rose McGowan Dances With Dylan Walsh in 'Nip/Tuck' Promo Pic

7 October 2009 7:37 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Two new promotional pictures from the upcoming season of "Nip/Tuck" have made its way out via Internet. In one of the shots, Rose McGowan, who portrays Dr. Theodora "Teddy" Lowe, is snapped enjoyably talking to her love interest Sean, the role played by Dylan Walsh, in what seems to be a party.

Then, the other picture shows McGowan and Walsh dancing. It looks like that both of them really enjoy their togetherness as they are seen smiling when moving their bodies. During the filming, the 36-year-old beauty is seen wearing a black dress, while Walsh opts to don a long-sleeved shirt matched with black trousers.

The episode which features McGowan and Walsh's dancing scene, "Briggitte Rheinholt", will be aired on FX Wednesday, October 28. The sixth season of the medical drama show, in the meantime, is scheduled to be premiered on Wednesday, October 14 at 10:00 P.M. Et/Pt.

Elizabeth Taylor's Heart Surgery, Brett Favre And 'A Serious Man' In Today's Twitter-Wood

6 October 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Elizabeth Taylor actually broke some news about herself on Twitter this afternoon, as it appears the Hollywood legend and Twitter-Wood citizen is having an operation performed on her heart. Rose McGowan was among the first to send good vibes out to her, and I definitely echo those sentiments, as her performance in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" is among my all-time favorites.

In less dangerous news, Kim Kardashian added her name to Twitter-Wood's list of Halloween costume commitments for the year, announcing that she'll be going to at least one event as Jasmine from "Aladdin." Check out all the details, along with Shaq's take on Brett Favre, Richard Kelly's plea for help understanding "A Serious Man" and Peter Facinelli's behind-the-scenes shot from "Nurse Jackie." They're all in the Twitter-Wood report for October 6, 2009.

Underworld star Kate Beckinsale is the 'Sexiest Woman Alive'

Kate Beckinsale, known to sci-fi/fantasy fans for her rubber-clad role in the Underworld movies, has been named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire magazine.

The English actress was also in monster romp Van Helsing and was most recently seen in the less-than-thrilling Antarctic thriller Whiteout, adapted from a graphic novel.

She was rumoured to be linked to a further Underworld film, reportedly the first film in another trilogy, but didn't know anything about it when asked.

Beckinsale, who married Underworld's director Len Wiseman in 2004, also denied being linked to the remake of Barbarella and won damages from the Daily Express who had falsely claimed she had lost out to Rose McGowan.

The 36-year-old expressed interest in playing Catwoman when on the panel for Whiteout at San Diego Comic-Con in 2007.

According to The Insider, she said: "Because I have a thing for black latex. I do, I know we all do. »

Auto of the week: Cadillac Escalade from Zombieland

It certainly helps to be creative when killing zombies. Shaun (Simon Pegg) and buddy Ed (Nick Frost) went for the cricket bat and garden shovel options (apparently LP records thrown at the head don’t work) in Shaun of the Dead, while Cherry (Rose McGowan) preferred to gun them down with the M4 carbine she used as a leg substitute in Planet Terror. Though there are countless ways to do the job, just look at Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), the Twinkie-obsessed anti-hero in new horror comedy Zombieland. He and his fellow survivors, trying to forage a life in the zombie inhabited post-apocalyptic world, are very imaginative in their zombie-killing duties, using everything from pianos to banjos and one of his favourite tools is his Cadillac Escalade, this week’s auto spot. »
