'Kull The Conqueror' To Return To The Big Screen

23 November 2009 7:30 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Robert E. Howard’s “Kull" may get another chance to conquer the silver screen.

According to a report on Fantasy.fr, Paradox Entertainment CEO Fredrik Malmberg has confirmed that a new adaptation of “Kull The Conqueror” is in the works. Paradox is also producing a new “Conan” film, based on Howard’s more famous creation.

First created by Howard in 1929, Kull was an exiled warrior in pre-cataclysmic Atlantis who became a pirate, a mercenary, a gladiator and ultimately a King. In the chronology of Howard’s stories, Kull lived approximately eight thousand years before Conan.

In 1997, a previous adaptation of “Kull The Conqueror” by director John Nicolella was released in theaters with Kevin Sorbo (“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”) in the title role. However, the film failed to find an audience due in part to its inconsistent tone and the lighter touch it brought to the material.

‘Conan’ Screenwriters Map Out ‘Uncharted’ Movie

23 November 2009 7:20 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and its recent sequel are great adventure videogames that springboard off of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, with much more fluidity and cinematic flair than we’re usually accustomed to in gameplay. That said — it’s a videogame, and like all videogames, it will shine most brilliantly as something interactive, while a film will only diminish its value.

Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the screenwriters behind A Sound of Thunder, the upcoming Conan, and Sahara have been tasked with bringing Uncharted to life on the big screen.

As an adventure film, this has plenty of potential — about as much as it stands to derive many of its qualities from the Indiana Jones franchise. However, that vacuum left by Indy’s last crusade has never been successfully filled by any successors; could Uncharted transcend the usual flaws of videogame adaptations and become a truly great action-adventure franchise? »

Free Flick of the Day: The Doom Generation

20 November 2009 3:45 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The '90s were a good time to be a teen -- especially if you were itching for more than just the mainstream. Nestled between the John Hughes '80s and the bubbly Disney '00s, the '90s were a time when teen films thrived in tunes-led rebellion. It wasn't all about spunky mainstream music marketing and bubbly personalities. Scores and strangeness got to go a little wild, and Gregg Araki ran with that idea when he made The Doom Generation.

Dubbed Araki's "heterosexual movie," the film starred then-newcomer Rose McGowan as Amy Blue, a tough-as-nails, filthy-mouthed, self-proclaimed virgin in love with one Jordan White (James Duval). Their rather mundane lives are thrown through the ringer when they help out a strange boy named Xavier (Johnathan Schaech), who leads them through an insane road trip of unintended violence. A trip, mind you, that showcases a slew of names from »

Rose McGowan Insists Red Sonja Isn’t Dead, Filming Next Year

20 November 2009 8:36 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I gotta admit, as much as I don’t see Rose McGowan as Red Sonja, the fact that she seems completely gung-ho about making the movie happen come hell or high water sort of makes me want to see it. Surely, if the lead actress is this excited about a movie, it couldn’t be all bad — right? In any case, back in August McGowan tweeted that the movie was delayed, referencing “real life”, but didn’t really say what that meant. Now we know: she had injured herself, enough that it required surgery which is scheduled for later this year. Says McGowan: “I need one more arm surgery from nerve damage so I’m supposed to have that the beginning of December so if you see me anywhere I’ll be hobbling around with a cast. It’ll be very pretty. We’re hoping to start filming again in maybe a year. »

Rose McGowan Updates Red Sonja

20 November 2009 2:00 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The fate of director Robert Rodriguez's live-action adaptation of the Red Sonja comic book was in doubt after the lead actress, Rose McGowan, was badly injured while performing a stunt for the movie. After McGowan initially said that she "pulled out" of the production, she quickly clarified her statement, saying that the movie was "delayed," but "not permanently."

At the recent Moca 30th Anniversary Gala, Fox News' Pop Tarts spoke with McGowan about her condition and the status of Red Sonja:

I need one more arm surgery from nerve damage so I'm supposed to have that the beginning of December so if you see me anywhere I'll be hobbling around with a cast. It'll be very pretty. We're hoping to start filming again in maybe a year.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie weren't the only stars who headed out for the Moca 30th Anniversary Gala in La on Saturday night. The Jolie-Pitts skipped the red carpet, but there was more than enough star power even without the A-List couple. Kate Bosworth, Eva Mendes and Jessica Alba showed some leg in shorter dresses while Rachel Zoe and Kate Beckinsale stuck with their floor-skimming looks. The event looks like it was a huge success and they had at least one happy attendee - Rachel Zoe twittered about how much she loved the mixing of art and fashion worlds. Lady Gaga hooked up with artist Francesco Vezzoli and members of Russia's Bolshoi Ballet for her performance at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art's 30th Anniversary gala this weekend. Singing her new single, "Speechless," she displayed just the kind of avant-garde artistry that had all the celebrities in attendance praising Gaga's gutsy persona.

"I don't know about everybody else, but I just love the fact that she's like, 'Yes, this is what I'm wearing, and yes, this is how I'll be performing,' " Christina Ricci told MTV News on the red carpet. "And anyone who has that sort of self-confidence and the b---s to sort of be like, »

Rossum Upset By Manson/McGowan Comparison

13 November 2009 11:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Emmy Rossum turned frosty during a radio interview in Los Angeles on Thursday when the host suggested her romance with rocker Adam Duritz was like Marilyn Manson dating Rose McGowan.

The U.S. media has been critical of the pretty 23 year old's relationship with the 45-year-old Counting Crows frontman, and the Poseidon star decided enough was enough when radio presenter Valentine likened the romance to that of goth-rocker Manson and actress McGowan.

Rossum, who started dating Duritz this summer after splitting from her husband, took exception to the comparison, stating, "No, no, no, no..." before begging the DJ to change the topic.

She said, "How about my movie...? Anything but my personal life."

And when Valentine pressed her further about the odd romance, suggesting Duritz, whose past girlfriends have included Mandy Moore and Courteney Cox, wouldn't be the obvious choice of mate for young stars, Rossum quipped, "I'm much more mysterious than you know." »

Bette Midler Personally Making NYC Greener

11 November 2009 7:34 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

For as much as we hear about celebrities for all the scandal and negative things in which they find themselves entangled, it’s rather refreshing to hear about one of them doing something good.

One such celeb doing her part is music legend Bette Midler.

Back in 1995, Midler noticed a lack of upkeep in New York City parks and public spaces and decided to do something about it. This spurred her to start the New York Restoration Project.

The goal of the foundation is to plant one million trees in New York City by 2017. Midler is already on a roll with the project, having just recently planted her 250,000th tree. She also revamped a garden near Yankee Stadium.

And no, the singer isn’t just a name behind the foundation. Said Midler in an interview with Good Housekeeping, “I realized I needed to actually do something — even if it meant »

Dolph Lundgren ponders role in mythical Conan reboot

10 November 2009 12:20 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Dolph Lundgren is cool. I don’t care how many direct-to-dvd movies he does a month, Lundgren is a complete bad-ass. So much of a bad-ass in fact that Lundgren might show up in the highly-rumored Conan reboot.

“I’ve talked to the producers about doing something for Conan,’” Lundgren said. “It’s too early,” he said, stating that he wouldn’t know anything certain until “probably next year.”

The updated Conan will directed by Marcus Nispel for Lionsgate. The reboot is expected to more faithful to Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian than the Arnold Schwarzenegger films were.

Lundgren will be seen in Sylvester Stallone’s action-ensemble pic, The Expendables, where the 52-year-old will play a Swedish sniper named Gunnar Jensen. The film is expected to be released on August 20th.

Conan the Barbarian was released in 1982 from director John Milius. Milius later went to direct Red Dawn. »

Kevin Williamson talks up Scream 4

5 November 2009 6:01 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Horror supremo Kevin Williamson has revealed his plans for 'Scream 4'.

The 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' writer plans to introduce enough new characters in the next film to last him through 'Scream 5' and 'Scream 6', which he also hopes to make.

Kevin said: "The fourth one is an ensemble. It'll take place right now, 10 years later, and it's going to take place in character Sidney Prescott's hometown of Woodsboro. The film will star husband and wife team David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who have starred in the first three films in the series.

"We'll have our three main characters, and we'll be introducing several more."

Kevin, 44, said he has also included plenty of spoof-heavy material in the script.

He explained: "I'll just have to be very aware of the fact that we're a '4' and that we're beating a dead dog.

First Look: Jessica Alba in ‘Machete’

4 November 2009 5:34 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

The American Film Market is going on this week in Santa Monica and a few sites are squeezing every morsel of news from the event.  Two sites nabbed a picture of a Machete one sheet featuring Jessica Alba as “Sartana.”  It just looks like Alba with a gun in her hand, but you won’t hear any complaining from me.

The rest of the posters were locked away, but the wild cast also includes Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, and Rose McGowanRobert Rodriguez shot the expanded Grindhouse trailer in August here in Austin, TX.  It’s set for distribution April 16, 2010 by Sony Pictures.

This image comes from ComingSoon.net, but it should be noted Bloody-Disgusting snapped their own version as well:

First stills from Gregg Araki's Twin Peaks tinged, over-sexed scifi romp Kaboom

4 November 2009 1:07 PM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

Gregg Araki's wild, over-sexed and slightly apocalyptic cult movies defined the nineties indie movement as much as the work of Steven Soderbergh or Quentine Tarantino. They were ripe with outsider sentiment and were insanely sophisticated in terms of presenting gen-x youth culture in action. Not only that but you gotta give the man props for introducing us to many of our favorite sex kittens - The Doom Generation's Rose McGowan and, of course, his Nowhere brought us Denise Richards.

His new film is called Kaboom and it brings together Thomas Dekker (of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles fame), Kelly Lynch, Rooney Mara, Roxane Mesquida in a film that sounds like classic Araki, but with a scifi twist. And for the Araki fans out there, yes James Duval is in this film too.

Synopsis:

In 1996, "Scream" came out of nowhere to bring the horror genre back from the dead like Michael Myers sitting up after a coat hanger to the eyeball. Acclaimed as the smartest horror film in years, it yielded a trilogy that would gross hundreds of millions of dollars and clear a path for dozens of self-aware genre flicks ranging from "Zombieland" to "Adaptation."

Now, it's getting ready to come back again for another stab.

"It's going good," said writer Kevin Williamson, giving us an exclusive update on the new trilogy (!) he's writing. "I've gotta finish that baby."

Review: Nip/Tuck - Briggitte Reinholt

(S06E03) "I don't know... she must've thought I was someone else." - Teddy

Season six of Nip/Tuck, congratulations -- you have arrived. After two enjoyable, but largely disposable episodes to start the season, the focus has finally returned to the one dangling plot from season five -- Rose McGowan's Dr. Teddy Rowe. While it took some guesswork to recall everything the two-faced (three-faced?) anesthesiologist has done (the "previously on" sequence lacked anything to jog your memory since the season five Teddy was played by Katee Sackhoff), "Briggitte Reinholt" did a pretty decent job of explaining her past sins.

‘Red Sonja’ director turns to new comedy ‘The Black Phantom’

20 October 2009 10:13 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

New writers Dave Lease and Megan Hinds have sold their spec script for The Black Phantom, a comedy in which a “double-crossed Caucasian mob hitman turns for help to an unlikely source: the title character, an African-American hitman who was hired to kill him.”

Newcomer Doug Aarniokoski will direct the feature with Will Packer producing.

Aarniokoski was the orginally supposed to make his debut with the ill-fated Red Sonja reboot but the production has drifted into limbo. In September, Rose Mcgowan, who was slated to play the fierce female warrior, tweeted the following:

“Just this once i’ll address questions about Red Sonja&others;i was meant to do in ‘08.”

“Major personal &private;reasons I pulled out.Starting 2 want to work again. Sometimes real life f*cking sucks. That’s all. God bless us survivors.”

“To clarify press reports: Red Sonja is delayed. I pulled out of doing it in ‘09. Not permanently. »
