David Fincher's next gig, following Facebook app The Social Network which he's just started shooting, looks set to be The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. It'll re-team the director with Seven's writer Andrew Kevin Walker, who will adapt the novel by Max Ehrlich. The 35-year-old supernatural thriller involves a university lecturer's attempts to prove he's the reincarnation of somebody who died shortly before he was born, and to solve the mystery of his murder, for which the killer was never caught. It was filmed once before: a 1975 Bing Crosby production by J Lee Thompson, starring Margot Kidder and Michael Sarrazin, and adapted by Ehrlich himself. We all know David Fincher's stellar trajectory from Alien 3 to Benjamin Button, but Walker's path has been rockier. He followed Seven with the dodgy 8mm (heavily rewritten by Joel Schumacher) and Tim Burton's awesome Sleepy Hollow, but then, through uncredited rewrites »

There’s something about Jim Carrey that I find highly intriguing, and it’s the something that’s very dark and bleak in him. It’s not a quality of his that often gets played to -- in fact, I first noticed this about him in the otherwise terrible psychological thriller The Number 23, a few years back, in which he portrayed a man descending into insanity, because it seemed as if the film was terrified of unleashing that aspect of Carrey. It struck me then that almost everything we’ve ever seen Carrey do -- comedy and drama alike -- has been terrified of what looks to me like rage in him, and so it gets corralled into a grinning, hyper mania that is somehow perceived as “safe” because it’s “just” “funny.” I’d love to see what Carrey would do with the Joker for a director who »

Blood Creek, a film by director Joel Schumacher, has been given poor treatment by distributors Lionsgate Films. Town Creek aka Blood Creek aka Creek was released to multiple, smaller theaters in September, and now the film has received an unpublicized official DVD release date (January 19). So, why the neglect of horror films by this studio? It seems that once management was changed at Lionsgate, awhile back, most of the horror titles were dumped and this includes Blood Creek. A film with a slick look and an intriguing story line, Blood Creek looks worthy of a view, despite the dismissal by Lionsgate.
Have a look at the available info' and synopsis for Blood Creek below.
"In 1936, the Wollners--a German family living in rural Town Creek, Maryland--are contacted by the Third Reich to host a visiting scholar, Professor Ricard Wirth (Michael Fassbender). In need of money, they accept Wirth into their home. »

Corey Feldman is still keeping mum about plot details for The Lost Boys 3: The Bite , a follow-up to Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys and last year's direct-to-dvd sequel Lost Boys: The Tribe , but we did get him to bleed out a bit more info about the film this afternoon. During our Splatter interview, the online series he stars in, Feldman revealed he leaves for South Africa next week to begin shooting. "This is going to be a good one," the actor said, "very big budget compared to the last one and the director's great." At the helm this time? Dario Piana who directed The Deaths of Ian Stone . "He does some really good stuff with CGI. There are a lot more effects on this one. A lot more fighting, stunts and wire work. And it's the return... »

Well, we knew it wouldn't be long before this flick hit home video! Arriving on DVD January 19 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment is Joel Schumacher's long-delayed and recently dumped into theatres, Blood Creek (review here).
From the Press Release
Acclaimed director Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, Tigerland) takes the reins of Blood Creek, a tense supernatural horror-thriller concerning two brothers who find themselves at the center of a terrifying occult experiment. In 1936, the Wollners, a German family living in Town Creek, West Virginia, are contacted by the Third Reich to host a visiting scholar. In need of money, they accept Professor Richard Wirth into their home, unaware of the Third Reich's practices in the occult and Wirth's real mission that will keep the family bound for decades to come. After 71 years, in 2007, Evan Marshall's life has stalled at 25 years old when he is left without answers after his older brother »

Lionsgate Home Entertainment sent along the news of a DVD street date for Blood Creek, the Joel Schumacher-directed chiller that it sneaked into a handful of theaters in September. We also got word of a rather disappointing title change to the British film Lesbian Vampire Killers (pictured) for its U.S. home release.
Blood Creek (previously known as Town Creek and just plain Creek), starring Dominic Purcell and Henry Cavill as brothers seeking vengeance against a group continuing decades-old Nazi occult experiments, hits DVD January 19. The movie will be accompanied by Schumacher’s audio commentary, and the retail price is $26.98. Meanwhile, Lesbian Vampire Killers has been rechristened simply Vampire Killers by distributors The Weinstein Company and Vivendi Entertainment for its disc launch December 29. Popular UK comic actors James Corden and Mathew Horne topline this spoof of such sexy Hammer treats as Twins Of Evil and Lust For A Vampire, »

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has called Batman & Robin "the most important comic book movie ever made". The 1997 film, which was directed by Joel Schumacher and starred George Clooney as the Caped Crusader, was widely panned by critics and fans. The franchise went on an eight-year hiatus before director Christopher Nolan rebooted the series with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. However, the studio head has insisted that the film should be applauded for being "so bad", the Los Angeles Times reports. He said: "That may be the most important comic book movie ever made. Wil Wheaton guest starred on last night's episode of The Big Bang Theory, but sadly the Star Trek alumn didn't make his appearance until the end of the episode. Luckily though, the episode was still a Sheldon-centric one making it entertaining.
Apparently Sheldon has decided Wil Wheaton is in his top ten list of enemies ever since he stood him up at a Star Trek convention and he couldn't pass on a chance to defeat him in a card game.
Meanwhile, Wolowitz made poor Leonard make good in a six year old pact to make Penny set him up with one of her friends. Their plotline was definitely far less entertaining than Raj and Sheldon's nerd fest, but still had a few chuckles and some smiles.
Overall the episode was entertaining and proving the show can take its remaining single nerds and still keep the show fresh. You can catch »

It would appear, Big Bang theorists, that Sheldon has finally found his Khan -- or, maybe, his Kirk. See, if, like me, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is one of your favorite sci-fi flicks of all time, you probably noticed that the normally exacting Shedon became hilariously unmoored in his white hot rage for Star Trek: The Next Generation wunderkind Wil Wheaton. Quoting both Khan Noonien Singh ("From Hell's heart, I stab at thee!"), and, in a fashion, Capt. James T. Kirk ("Wheeeaatonnnn!"), it was unclear whether Sheldon saw himself as a wronged, genetically superior supervillian battling to destroy Wheaton's impetuous Kirk, »

It may be unfair to place the blame for the demise of the original Batman franchise at the feet of Akiva Goldsman, but he did write the screenplay for the Joel Schumacher-directed disaster that was Batman & Robin, a fact that does not escape Goldsman.
What got lost in Batman & Robin is the emotions aren't real. The worst thing to do with a serious comic book is to make it a cartoon. I'm still answering for that movie with some people.
Following Batman & Robin, Goldsman's screenwriting career took a hit. However, writing the screenplay for the multiple Academy Award-winning film A Beautiful Mind helped put Goldsman back on the map and he followed it up with a string of high-profile scripts, including The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, I Am Legend, and I, Robot. Despite Batman & Robin, Goldsman has not sworn off superheroes or comic book properties. Goldsman is currently »

Many films come out every year with critics and fans alike, compiling lists of their bests and worsts. There are also many films that fall between the cracks, only to be discovered years later. Many critics believe that one of the best years in cinema was 1939, when Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz were released alongside many other classic gems.
Personally, I’ve always felt that 1999 was an epic year for movies, providing us with so many interesting films. In fact, 1999 was such a good year for movies that even some of the bad ones are still worth watching!
So, please sit back and put your memory caps on as Screen Rant takes on a retrospective of 1999 in the world of film.
In 1999, the world was a very different place. We were on the cusp of a new millennium and 9/11 was something that nobody - not even »

Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins 2009 82 minutes Rated PG (for 'some mild peril') Available now on DVD, Blu Ray, On Demand, or iTunes Download. If you treat the previous two Scooby-Doo feature films as the equivalent of Joel Schumacher's Batman pictures, then Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins is very much the equivalent of Chris Nolan's Batman Begins. The previous live-action adventures were over-the-top, wildly colorful, and garish in their bubble-gum excess. This new version, which aired to record-breaking ratings on Cartoon Network a week prior to the DVD/Blu Ray release, is a distillation of the classic formula, a back to basics reboot that honors and respects the traditions of the mythology without feeling the need to constantly comment on it. It's just 82-minutes, and there isn't an ounce of fat to be found. I'm not a particularly die-hard fan of the... »

After watching the "gay exorcism" kid on Tyra, aren't you ready to turn off the TV and see what's going on at the movies? Heaven knows, I am!
The week's big opener is, of course, the remake of Fame, featuring a cast of talented youngsters that's way more shiny, happy and generally well-scrubbed than their grittier 1980 counterparts.
That would be Ok if this new movie were a tenth as engaging or well-written as the first one, but alas, it ain't. Even the few standout musical numbers aren't rousing enough to put over the rest of this lead balloon. (Read AfterElton.com's review here.)
That we've gone from the New York City High School of Performing Arts apparently having but one gay student (yeah, right) in '80 to one exceedingly gay-vague dancer boy doesn't feel like all that much progress, either.
And how can you put Kelsey Grammer and Bebe Neuwirth, »

The movie formally known as Creek, Joel Schumacher's latest flick is tasty horror now retitled Blood Creek, you know, because there's blood. Also in Blood Creek; Nazis. How do we know about the Nazis? Take a look at the poster - this guy has a Swastika carved into his skull. Awesome. Why they didn't just go the super obvious route and retitle it Nazi Creek? Apparently there is a fine line of obvious in Hollywood, and there are some lines you just shouldn't cross. 25 year-old Evan is in a rut, unable to forget his older brother...

by Nuzhat Naoreen, the intern (not the celebrity)
As an MTV intern you get to see a lot of things, but today, I didn't just get to see something...I got to experience it. Today, I was a celebrity.
The whole thing came about somewhat unexpectedly, when my fellow interns and I received an e-mail requesting our attendance at a roundtable discussion on new media -- digital abuse, texting, Facebooking, cyber bullying etc. -- hosted by Joel Schumacher. That's right Joel Schumacher, you know, the guy who directed "Batman & Robin" and "The Lost Boys"? It was already kind of a big deal.
We didn't have much information beforehand, except that the shoot was for a pro-social video. For all I knew, I was going to sit in an audience and watch a discussion, just another nameless face in the crowd.
As I prepared to head downstairs, I was told that »

This past weekend, Joel Schumacher's latest genre offering Blood Creek was quietly released into a handful of second run theaters by Lionsgate, similar to their treatment of last year's The Midnight Meat Train . (Which is a shame, because Blood Creek is actually pretty good!) Although it'll be tough to catch, at the very least, below you'll find this pretty bad-ass theatrical one-sheet poster for the flick. The chiller (formally known as Creek ), stars Dominic Purcell ( The Gravedancers ), Henry Cavill and Michael Fassbender and was scripted by Dave Kajganich ( The Invasion , the upcoming theatrical version of Stephen King's It ). Synopsis: In 1936, the Wollners - a German family living in rural Town Creek, Maryland - are contacted by the Third Reich to host a... »
