Sundance 2010 Non-Competition Line-Up Looks Strong

12 hours ago | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Yesterday we got the list for the films playing in competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and today we get the rest of the films that will be featured and there are quite a few that make 2010 look much stronger based on pedigree alone than I have seen in quite some time. Variety has a big write-up detailing the categories and more on the festival right here, but I am just going to offer up the titles and let you sort it all out.

The titles already in the RopeofSilicon database are linked.

Premieres

All films are from the United States unless otherwise noted Abel (Mexico-u.S.), the directorial debut of actor Diego Luna, written by Luna and Agusto Mendoza, about a peculiar young boy who, as he blurs reality and fantasy, takes over the responsibilities of a family man in his father's absence. 2010 Sundance Film Festival Out-of-Competition Films: Premieres

13 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Yesterday we gave you a list of all the films playing in-competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.  We now have the list of the films playing out-of-competition and they’re divided up into four categories: Premieres, Next, Spotlight, and Park City at Midnight. Since combining these lists would be a lot to read for just one article, we’ve broken it up to give each category its own article.

Know that while there are a lot of films playing in-competition, most of the films to get buzz will be coming from the out-of-competition categories.  First up are the premiers which include John WellsThe Company Men starring Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Costner; Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini’s The Extra Man starring Katie Holmes, John C. Reilly, and Paul Dano; Get Low starring Robert Duvall and Bill Murray; Michael Winterbottom’s The Killer Inside Me starring Casey Affleck, »

Full Sundance line-up announced...and it's a doozy!

14 hours ago | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

In addition to the competition titles which were announced yesterday, Sundance has announced the remainder of their line-up and it includes some titles we’re already familiar with along with a huge number of premieres.

Also on the docket are two new series: Next which showcases low/no budget films and Spotlight which highlights films which festival programmers deem worthy of extra love including Enter the Void (review) and Lourdes (the trailer for which I really liked).

I’m particularly excited to see some of the titles in the New Frontier program but overall, the line-up is an impressive one but the Kristen Stewart fan in me is excited to see her turn as Joan Jett in The Runaways and I think it’s fair to say we’re all dying to see Vincenzo Natali’s hotly anticipated Splice (trailer).

In the Midnight section, Adam Green's Frozen is sounding mighty find, »

Sundance 2010 Film Lineup *Updated*

15 hours ago | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Sundance released their slate for 2010. It includes:43 documentaries on the Middle East12 films about friends who 'discover' something33 movies about people you've never heard about1 comedyHopefully the lineup this year is strong but it doesn't look that way compared to last year. Last year we had Push (Precious), that Lil Wayne documentary that never went anywhere, Mystery Team which might make my top ten, Moon, Mike Tyson documentary, Cold Souls. Just so much last January that was excellent. I hope I don't go out therer and freeze my tail off just to see...I don't know, a documentary about a former Pakistani prime minister or something silly like that. Here's the lineup so far: Premieres To showcase the diversity to contemporary independent cinema, the Sundance Film Festival Premieres section offers the latest work from American and international directors as well as world premieres of highly anticipated films. Blood Creek Trailer

17 hours ago | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Joel Schumacher has had what could best be described as a “mixed career”. There have been many highs – and many lows. For every Falling Down or Tigerland, there’s a Batman and Robin or Dying Young. One peruses his CV and expects stinker after stinker, but in fact, he’s directed some brilliant films down the years.

His latest flick – Blood Creek – starring Dominic Purcell and Henry Cavill looks barking mad. Mixing Nazi occult rituals, action scenes and lots of blood, the trailer offers a glimmer of something quite interesting. Schumacher has always had a rather camp and fun sense of humour, so don’t expect anything too serious. With a script by David Kajganich (The Invasion), this could be b-movie heaven – or hell. The poster is pretty cool, though. Is it a monster or a man?

Blood Creek is out early 2010.

MTV announced on Thursday (December 3) the launch of a multi-year initiative called "A Thin Line" aimed at stopping the spread of abuse in the form of sexting, cyberbullying and digital dating abuse. The goal of the initiative is to empower America's youth to identify, respond to and stop the spread of the various forms of digital harassment.

"Our audience lives online, and while every generation deals with their own set of abuse issues, the digital sphere exponentially increases opportunities for misuse," said Stephen Friedman, general manager of MTV. "There is a very thin line between private and public, this moment and forever, love and abuse, and words and wounds. A Thin Line is built to empower our audience to draw their own line between digital use and digital abuse. »

First Trailer for Blood Creek Here!

2 December 2009 2:53 PM, PST | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

At long last Lionsgate opens up and releases a trailer for Blood Creek aka Town Creek. To see DVD and Blu-Ray discs beginning in January 19th this first trailer honestly looks bloody awesome! Best trailer for 2009? This is a possibility as Victor Marshall (Dominic Purcell) fights off a Nazi occultist in this first clip, or is it a demon? Have a look for yourself and decide as this glorious trailer for Blood Creek explodes inside.

But first the synopsis:

"Evan Marshall's life has stalled at 25 years old. Left without answers after his older brother Victor's disappearance from a camping trip near Town Creek, Maryland, he has tried to move on. But when Victor returns one night, very much alive and having escaped his captors, Evan asks no questions. At his brother's request, he loads their rifles, packs up their boat and follows him back to Town Creek on a mission »

The Man Who Killed Batman is Back with Blood Creek

1 December 2009 9:24 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

In hindsight, you really can’t blame Joel Schumacher for destroying the Batman franchise by giving Bats and Robin perky rubber nipples. Oh wait. Yes you can. Ol Joel has been quietly making a bit of a comeback of late, with movies like “The Number 23″ and “The Phantom of the Opera”. His latest is “Blood Creek”, formerly “Town Creek”. After sitting on Lionsgate’s shelves for the last two years, the film is finally getting a very limited theatrical release in bargain locales (good luck finding it, though), and will be headed to DVD January 19, 2010. Check out a Red Band trailer and poster for it below. Acclaimed director Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, Tigerland) takes the reins of Blood Creek, a tense supernatural horror-thriller concerning two brothers who find themselves at the center of a terrifying occult experiment. Joel Schumacher’s Blood Creek Gives Us Nazis, Black Magic, and Lots of Blood

1 December 2009 9:02 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Nazi-related horror movies seem to be pretty popular at the moment. If you want Nazis and zombies, you can check out “Dead Snow.” If you’re more interested in a Nazi-centric slasher, “Final Solution” looks like it may fit the proverbial bill. However, if blood rituals, black magic, and Dominic Purcell is more to your liking, director Joel Schumacher’s upcoming “Blood Creek” (aka “Town Creek”) might be the cinematic gem you’re searching for. The trailer certainly looks interesting, but then again, I’m kind of a sucker for those “people trapped in a building fighting otherworldly entities” movies, so my opinion may not be worth anything at all. Once you properly investigate the trailer embedded below, you’ll see what I mean. Then again, maybe not. The synopsis is as follows: In 1936, the Wollners – a German family living in rural Town Creek, Maryland – are contacted by the Third »

Blood Creek DVD Art Washes In

20 November 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

One of 2009's more bizarre offerings, Blood Creek , is making its way to DVD on January 19. Honestly, I enjoyed the hell out of this film, which was directed by Joel Schumacher and stars Dominic Purcell, Henry Cavill and, briefly, Michael Fassbender. It's a mix of action, the occult, Nazi mayhem, but it's also a creature feature (with zombie f**kin' horses and dogs) and a siege picture in some respects with a dose of EC Comics atmosphere. Totally unexpected. Give it a chance and you might dig it. The disc comes with Schumacher's commentary. »

Nicolas Cage: Bad To The Bone

By

Alex Simon

It’s an inevitable event in every accomplished artist’s life: if you go back on the timeline of their existence and stop in adolescence, almost all of our greatest actors, writers, filmmakers, musicians and painters went through tumultuous, tortured teenage years, often scorned, almost universally ridiculed by their peers and elders alike for the cardinal sin of being “weird.” Most people run from their inner nerd as they grow into adulthood, masking it behind toned muscle, fine clothing and the right haircut, struggling to be that cool guy or gal whom we knew had all the answers and the clearest skin back when such things started to be de rigeur in our lives (and if you live in Southern California, continue to be).

Nicolas Cage is that rare movie star who not only never seemed to care if he was cool, »

Michael Keaton: 'There's a price to pay for making your own choices'

19 November 2009 1:40 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

He used to be Beetlejuice and Batman. Now Michael Keaton is a first-time director and a contented man

Michael Keaton is standing in the middle of his London hotel room, transfixed by the widescreen television before him. He holds out the remote control as if he's offering a gift to the gods. The volume goes up, the volume goes down. The image freezes, then fast-forwards. The urge to wrest the handset from him and take charge is overwhelming, and lasts at least until you remember the fabled Keaton temper. ("I'm a good thrower," he once said. "And kicker.") But his doddery behaviour in the face of technology is endearing. Eventually, he hits on the scene he was hunting for. "Wait, you gotta see this," he says breathlessly. "Listen, you hear that song? Oh, man. That's the one we wanted to use but it was too expensive."

If Nolan Doesn't Direct 'Batman 3' Who Would You Like to See Take Over?

17 November 2009 4:14 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Batman On Film posted a short story last week saying "there's some scuttlebutt that in early 2010, Warner Bros. and Chris Nolan will finalize the plan for Batman 3." While many sites are running with the story and saying there will be an announcement of sorts, Batman On Film clearly states whether there will be an announcement or not remains to be seen, but the question of Nolan's involvement as director remains in the air.

I guess one would have to assume WB and Nolan would be smart to get things sorted out by at least June of 2010 so interviews for Nolan's new film Inception won't be bogged down with conversation asking about the next Batman feature, or at least kept to a minimum.

Will Nolan be back? My gut tells me yes he will be, but I could also see how the death of Heath Ledger and perhaps the expectation The »

Bill Belichick's Fourth Quarter Colts Vs Patriots Fumble An Old Story In Hollywood

16 November 2009 8:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Everybody makes mistakes, even a three-time Super Bowl winning football coach like Bill Belichick. If a man like Belichick can cause a series of fatal game-changing events due to one bad coaching call — as he did during the fourth quarter of last night's game pitting his New England Patriots against the Indianapolis Colts — then you shouldn't feel too bad about breaking your mother's favorite vase or skipping out on "Drag Me To Hell" while it was in theaters. Alright, maybe you should feel bad about that last one.

But the Patriots head coach isn't alone in his ability to turn a single blunder into a catastrophic calamity — it's a storm that comes into port quite often in the hills of Hollywood. In fact, the following five film franchises have all seen similar collapses due to a fourth quarter fumble.

The Reincarnation Of David Fincher

8 November 2009 11:04 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

David Fincher's next gig, following Facebook app The Social Network which he's just started shooting, looks set to be The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. It'll re-team the director with Seven's writer Andrew Kevin Walker, who will adapt the novel by Max Ehrlich. The 35-year-old supernatural thriller involves a university lecturer's attempts to prove he's the reincarnation of somebody who died shortly before he was born, and to solve the mystery of his murder, for which the killer was never caught. It was filmed once before: a 1975 Bing Crosby production by J Lee Thompson, starring Margot Kidder and Michael Sarrazin, and adapted by Ehrlich himself. We all know David Fincher's stellar trajectory from Alien 3 to Benjamin Button, but Walker's path has been rockier. He followed Seven with the dodgy 8mm (heavily rewritten by Joel Schumacher) and Tim Burton's awesome Sleepy Hollow, but then, through uncredited rewrites »
