Last night at the Behind the Camera Awards, before Joseph Gordon-Levitt went on to do a (500) Days of Summer pantomime with Zooey Deschanel, he was on the red carpet singing the praises of writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. (Gordon-Levitt also told us he hasn't started preparing for his upcoming stint hosting Saturday Night Live, but he can't wait until that very first meeting with the writers.) Still, despite the fun and excitement of taking home an award, one of three men had an even more momentous occasion to celebrate this weekend. »

Nikki Reed was fresh off her long press weekend supporting New Moon but got dressed up last night to pose with costar Anna Kendrick at MovieLine's Behind the Camera Awards in La. They joined adorable couple Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, who's back to focusing on film after her fashion-related party earlier in the week. Nikki and Anna were on hand to honor their special effects editor Susan MacLeod, and Diane came out on behalf of Inglourious Basterds producer Lawrence Bender. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, meanwhile, presented their (500) Days of Summer screenwriters with statues. The event was designed to honor those who labor behind the scenes, but the well-dressed ladies couldn't help but take a little bit of the spotlight. Last night's Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards ceremony was as packed with meta-literal moments as it was with unabashed enthusiasm for the cinema. Onscreen talents such as Jason Bateman, Bill Paxton and Diane Kruger mounted the Highlands stage to thank their behind-the-camera colleagues, who then jumped in front of our cameras to accept their awards. But the most meta moment was claimed when Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt honored screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber by ditching their presenter script to improv how 500 Days of Summer would have looked without Neustadter and Weber's screenplay. »

There aren't many Hollywood events where you might spot Hitchcockian goddess Tippi Hedren, Austrian cinematographer Christian Berger and legendary costume designer Ann Roth strolling the red carpet alongside the ravishing Diane Kruger (with date Joshua Jackson on her arm), the fierce Zoe Saldana, and (500) Days of Summer's fractious -- but pretty damn cute -- couple, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. But then there aren't many ceremonies like the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards -- an event expressly mounted to recognize the achievements of cinema craftsmen and professionals whose work is too often glossed over every awards season. »

Here at Boxwish, we don’t like to play favourites, electing one film, movie star or product as superior to all the others and yet sometimes it can be tough to maintain such principles. Just take Zooey Deschanel (easy boys!), the actress has snagged the likes of Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell and Joseph Gordon-Levitt with her offbeat charms onscreen, impresses with her musical talents (she performs with jazz act, If All The Stars Were Pretty Babies and has sung in many of her movies) and has a fashion sense to kill for, though thankfully, we’re not prepared to go that far. Yes, it’s fair to say we’re firmly lodged in Camp Zooey (if such a thing were to exist) and so we’re taking a leaf out of her style book with her vintage blue coat from Yes Man. »

Christmas is coming early for Bones fans — both literally and figuratively. The rumored Deschanel sister pairing is actually happening, in fact it has already been filmed for the show’s Christmas episode to air Dec. 10. This will mark the first time Emily and Zooey Deschanel will appear on screen together.
Zooey will appear as Margaret Whitesell, a distant relative to big sister Emily’s Dr. Temperance Brennan. According to Zap2It, Brennan’s father (Ryan O'Neal) invited Margaret to spend Christmas with him and Brennan in an episode titled “The Goop on the Girl.” In the episode, Booth and Brennan investigate the explosive death of a man in a Santa suit during a bank robbery. I hope for Zooey’s sake she isn’t the girl with said goop, because — you know — ewww.
Last week, series creator Hart Hanson tweeted about Zooey’s appearance saying: “The Deschanel sisters working it together! »

By the time Top Chef serves up its celebrity judge episode, viewers are so bloated by Tom Colicchio's salty criticisms that they are itching for a Shun knife fight or a nap. Instead of the usual disappointment realized when Zooey Deschanel pokes around her corn tamales while clearly intimidated by Gail Simmons' sultry-yet-spot-on analysis, last night's guest judge Natalie Portman proved that her easy charm translates to cable cooking shows. By folding a ribald double entendre, a drug-related come-on and generous peels of angelic laughter into her rudimentary cuisine speak, the hard-to-please Top Chef judges fell fork-first into Portman's ardent vegetarian spell. »

Natalie Portman paid a visit to the seven remaining chefs this week -- and threw them a delightful curve ball. While the contestants were prepared to cook a meat-heavy dinner in Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak restaurant, the actress waltzed in before they started prepping, announced she was a vegetarian and that she expected some upscale, creative fare. Jen C. summed up the group’s sentiment. "I'm thinking, 'Oh s—t," she announced. Cue the panic! TV Dinners: First, though, the chefs had a Quickfire challenge to contend with -- this one sponsored by TV Guide, which tasked them with re-imagining a TV dinner inspired by a classic show. (Think Gilligan's Island or, a modern classic, like Seinfeld!) Guest judge Paul Bartolotta and Padma took their seats on a sofa and ate from an elegant tray -- none of that plastic-wrapped stuff here, thank you -- before declaring Kevin the winner for his Sopranos-inspired meatball dinner. »

I'm sure Peter Sarsgaard didn't intend to make a horror movie that would provoke gales of unintentional laughter. Yet in a key, emotionally-wrought scene near the end of Orphan -- out on DVD today and, perversely enough, worth a rental -- that's exactly what happens; by that point, the film's determination to take itself way too seriously has worn down the viewer, and its lunatic premise collapses upon itself. Sarsgaard bravely goes down with the ship, as does Vera Farmiga, two talented actors that were better than their material.
How do good actors end up in bad movies? The same way some of us end up in jobs we hate: (1) It sounded better than it turned out; (2) Gotta pay the bills. Sometimes they liven up the movie (The Devil's Advocate wouldn't be nearly as much fun without Al Pacino's self-parodying scenery-chewing) and sometimes they look befuddled that they ended up »

The red carpet was brimming with beautiful stars in La last night at the Hollywood Awards Gala, which is referred to as the first stop of award season. Charlize Theron was fresh off her trip to Sf and looking hot, while Kate Beckinsale was also sexy in black. Diane Kruger held down the angelic side in white, and newlywed Zooey Deschanel stuck with her standard cute look. Hilary Swank posed after her Amelia had a disappointing opening weekend, though she took home the Best Hollywood Actress statue for her work in the film. Inside the event, Sandra Bullock, Morgan Freeman and Zachary Quinto entertained the crowd from onstage. Julianne Moore had a big night, taking home Best Supporting Actress honors for her work in Tom Ford's directorial debut, A Single Man, and Bradley Cooper won the Hollywood Comedy Award. Question: Is Emilie de Ravin going to be back on Lost for the whole season or just a few episodes? And will we get to see what happened to her? —Jared
Ausiello: The answer to both of your questions is a resounding yeppers. Better prepare yourself though. My Lost mole says season 6 will showcase "a version of Claire we've never seen before — a Rousseau-esque version." We'll be in need of a Rousseau fix since the real version will be MIA. According to a Lost insider, the French Lady's portrayer, Mira Furlan, turned down the show's request to return for the final season due to a "prior overseas commitment." Anyone know how you say "big bag-o-nuts" in français? »
