Cage Cancels Screening After Father's Death

2 November 2009 8:16 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Nicolas Cage has cancelled his appearance at a New York screening of his new film Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans as he grieves the death of his father, August Coppola.

The retired college dean, and brother of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, suffered a fatal heart attack on Tuesday, aged 75.

Cage laid his dad to rest on Thursday, alongside family and friends at the Christ the King Church in Hollywood, California.

He was set to walk the red carpet alongside co-stars Val Kilmer and Eva Mendes days later, at the 8 November event - but has now bowed out of the screening, reports the New York Post.

A spokesperson for Cage had not responded to requests for comment as WENN went to press. »

Anne Heche Joins Comedies

29 October 2009 1:20 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Anne Heche, whose career over the last few years has been largely TV-based, is heading back onto the big screen with roles in two big upcoming comedies: Cedar Rapids, with The Hangover's Ed Helms, and The Other Guys, with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. In Cedar Rapids, Helms is a small-town insurance salesman headed to a company convention to try to save his colleagues' careers, and Heche plays the female lead, a fellow agent who befriends him when his trip goes wrong. In The Other Guys, she'll play the company head who hires Ferrell and Wahlberg's cops to examine losses in her company. We're guessing they're well out of their depth there. Adam McKay is directing The Other Guys, which also stars Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Dwayne Johnson. Cedar Rapids is directed by Miguel Arteta and also features John C. Reilly. »

Does Nic Cage have the kavorka?

28 October 2009 11:40 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Nicolas Cage sometimes gets a bad rap. Yes, he's an Oscar winner, but his eclectic taste in movies has often drawn criticism, most famously from Sean Penn, who once accused Cage of s-tting on their profession. Say what you want about The Wicker Man or Bangkok Dangerous, but Cage is either the savviest or most fortuitous operator in Hollywood when it comes to his female costars. Yesterday's announcement that Mad Men's January Jones will costar opposite Cage in The Hungry Rabbit Jumps was only the most recent example. Funk singer made a memorable appearance on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' this week.

Har Mar Superstar performs on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Monday

You'd be excused if the word "legend" was not the first honorific that sprang to mind after watching Har Mar Superstar on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" on Monday night. But that's how the former "SNL" star referred to the Minnesota funketeer (a.k.a. Sean Tillman) after he tore down the house with a performance of his body-quaking new single, "Tall Boy."

The electro tune — which is full of double entrendres about sex, big beers and ... well, mostly sex — has been turning heads over the past few weeks, thanks to an appropriately Wtf-worthy sci-fi video, starring actress Eva Mendes. The "2 Fast 2 Furious" star spends most of the clip getting blasted with glitter amid scenes of girly pillow fights, a »

Har Mar Superstar Conquers 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon'

27 October 2009 7:10 AM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

If you're like me, you woke up Tuesday morning (like, really, really early), stumbled down to your underground media bunker (not as sexy as it sounds) and did a triple take when you saw the phrase "Har Mar Superstar" at the very top of Google Trends. Like, above Rudolph Valentino and the hot Mormon muffins calendar.

But we were probably confused for different reasons. See, I know who Har Mar is. In fact, I'm a huge fan of the balding, tubby Minnesota hunk of white funk thunder who bears an uncanny resemblance to Jon Lovitz' character in "The Critic." The singer (who also records under the name Sean Na Na and whose given name is Sean Tillman) has been making waves the past few weeks thanks to the outrageously weird video for the first single, "Tall Boy," from his new album, Dark Touches. In case you haven't seen it, »

The weird, lengthy comedy The Revenant (review)

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

Review: Bad Lieutenant - a truly orginal remake

26 October 2009 10:56 AM, PDT | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

I've got to say, that the thought of handing over the keys of a cliche ridden traditional cop thriller to Werner Herzog and letting him drive it out of the showroom, is partly a stroke of genius and partly, or completely, totally and absolutely, insane. Not that Abel Ferrara's 1992 film (one which Herzog claims he's still never seen) was anything traditional of course. What's weird with this revamp (remake, reboot, re imagining... whatever) is that at first glance, it looks, walks and talks like an episode of a television cop show. Hey... I said at first glance. We're in New Orleans, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (that bitch) and Terence McDonaugh (Cage - a jokey reference to trouble maker H.I McDonaugh in the Coen's Raising Arizona?) avoids the brow beating of a partner to rescue a crook from a jail cell. A shot sharp glance at a good side of someone who, »

During his heroic act, McDonagh injures his back and later becomes addicted to prescription pain medication.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Gwen Stefani led the pack yesterday at Fashion Group International's annual Night of Stars in NYC. She struck a pose alongside fellow designer Eva Mendes, while Dita von Teese and Evan Rachel Wood apparently managed to avoid an awkward run-in. Gucci model James Franco took a break from his other Big Apple activities to smile for the cameras next to the house's designer, Frida Giannini, and Mary J. Blige. Mary and Frida were together earlier in the day to open the new Mary J. Blige Center For Women in Yonkers, and their charitable ways continued into the evening of celebrating the year's best fashionable good deeds. Paris Hilton demands lobsters on set...

Paris Hilton reportedly demanded live lobsters on the set of her new movie.

The blonde socialite, who makes a cameo appearance in action comedy 'The Other Guys', gave movie bosses a three-page rider before she agreed to the role.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Paris has a cameo role in the movie, where she plays herself.

"The producers were shocked when her team handed them a three-page list of demands - including live lobsters to be prepared fresh when she's ready to eat and a bottle of Grey Goose vodka - all for just one day on the set.

"All celebrities are typically offered riders, but it seemed excessive for just one day's work playing herself. She was due to fly to New York to film in secret last week."

Paris' representative has denied the 28-year-old star demanded live lobsters, saying: "This is totally ridiculous and untrue. »
