Ron Howard Reveals the Title to 'Star Wars' Han Solo Standalone Film... And You May Have Guessed It

17 October 2017 5:56 PM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

We're getting another Star Wars Story.

Director Ron Howard revealed the long-awaited title to the upcoming Han Solo standalone film in an Instagram video from the production's wrap on Monday.

"I'd like to take this moment to thank an incredibly talented cast and crew for all their hard work," the 63-year-old director said, before clarifying, "Can we even say the name of the movie?"

At that point, Chewbacca reaches in from off screen and hands Howard the title card, which reads: Solo: A Star Wars Story.

And there it is! The title keeps in line with the Star Wars franchise's other standalone films, e.g. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and, bizarrely, was predicted by Et's own Ash Crossan during a red carpet interview with Solo himself, Alden Ehrenreich, all the way back in November 2016.

Ron Howard Reveals Title for Han Solo Standalone Film In Fun Video — Watch

17 October 2017 10:33 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Production has wrapped on Lucasfilm’s Han Solo standalone film, and director Ron Howard took the opportunity to announce the movie’s title in a cheeky new video. Feigning innocence, Howard thanks the cast and crew for all their hard work before asking someone off camera if he can “even say the name of the movie.” In response, some furry wookie paws hand him a sign, which he flips over to reveal “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in the classic yellow “Star Wars” font. Howard can hardly contain his excitement as he holds up the announcement, signing off with knowing refrain of — “I’ll see you next year.”

Fans instantly responded with excited “Star Wars” gifs, including the famous moment from “The Empire Strikes Back” when Solo says “I know” after Leia tells him she loves him. Another user reacted with an image of a very enthusiastic porg, the newest »

At last, Ron Howard has finally revealed the official title for the Han Solo movie. In a not at all surprising announcement, the director shared that the official title for the Star Wars standalone is Solo: A Star Wars Story. Previous reports indicated that the movie would be titled Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, which was close, but not quite there. So now, we all finally know what to call this thing when we talk about it.

The director made the reveal in a short video posted to his Twitter in order to thank the cast and crew he worked with on Solo: A Star Wars Story. According to the video, they are wrapping up production, which means after all of the mess, this movie is finally in the can and, hopefully, that means we'll be seeing more than just some ominous set photos in the near future. 17 October 2017 9:24 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Filming has wrapped on the fraught production of Lucasfilm‘s Han Solo spinoff movie, which saw Phil Lord and Chris Miller packing up their things and leave during shooting. Ron Howard came in, bringing a veteran, reassuring hand behind the camera, and a pleasant and engaging social media presence. Now, he’s heading into post-production with one more message.

The director hit Twitter today and revealed the official title of the movie, which is the fairly bland, “Solo: A Star Wars Story“:

The “Star Wars” Han Solo spinoff has finally been titled: “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

The film follows the young Han Solo — a 20-something version of Harrison Ford’s character — and Chewbacca’s adventures before joining the Rebellion, including their encounters with Lando Calrissian.

Howard took over as director in August after the movie’s original helmers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were fired, after clashing with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy and co-writer/executive producer Lawrence Kasdan.

Han Solo Spinoff Will Be Titled Solo: A Star Wars Story

17 October 2017 9:23 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Well, it’s official.

To mark the end of principal photography, director Ron Howard has confirmed that his Han Solo anthology pic will release as Solo: A Star Wars Story on May 25th, 2018.

Howard initially took control of the Star Wars spinoff back in June, when Lucasfilm fired erstwhile directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller due to creative differences. The Powers That Be later executed a similar shake-up for the untitled Episode IX, after J.J. Abrams was drafted in to replace the outgoing Colin Trevorrow.

As for Solo, it’s now evident that Lucasfilm and Disney are adhering to a fairly strict template when it comes to their Star Wars anthology series, given today’s announcement follows in the footsteps of Rogue One. It’s all in an effort to differentiate these spinoffs from the core Skywalker saga (Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story, anyone?), so don’t be too surprised »

Han Solo Trailer Is Finished, Title to Be Revealed Soon?

12 October 2017 5:11 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

If the still untitled Han Solo movie hasn't already wrapped shooting, it should very soon. So the question on everyone's mind is, when are we going to see the first teaser trailer for the next Star Wars spin-off? Actually, at this point, a better question is, when is Lucasfilm going to reveal the official title for the Han Solo movie? Today, we have some answers. They're not concrete, but they're answers. It looks like we're going to get a title reveal "soon," according to Jordan Maison of Cinelix. Here's what he had to say about it.

"I haven't heard anything about a name other than it should be revealed soon."

Jordan Maison revealed the information on Twitter and, even though soon isn't super specific, that does mean Star Wars fans won't have to wait all that much longer to know what the currently untitled Han Solo movie is going to be called. »

Lucasfilm Reportedly In Possession Of A Han Solo Trailer Cut; Title Reveal Imminent

12 October 2017 11:38 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If it wasn’t for the sudden dismissal of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, we may have already received some form of status report regarding Lucasfilm’s Han Solo spinoff by now.

That’s not to say the Star Wars anthology pic was outright delayed; thanks to the swift appointment of the Oscar-winning Ron Howard, the Han Solo origin movie was back on track before the galaxy’s greatest smuggler could pull off his famous Kessel Run.

Fast forward to now, and a new report unearthed by Cinelinx (via Screen Rant) claims that not only is Lucasfilm in possession of a trailer cut (it’s “floating around,” apparently), but the Powers That Be are also preparing to announce the film’s official title sooner rather than later. Last we reported, “Solo” was said to be the placeholder, though we imagine Lucasfilm’s creative players, along with the newly-appointed Ron Howard, »

Tim Minchin on the collapse of his animated movie, Larrikins

Simon Brew Oct 12, 2017

Tim Minchin has been reflecting on the four years he sunk into trying to get the animated movie Larrikins made...

One of the casualties of Universal’s acquisition of DreamWorks Animation has been the promising-looking animated feature, Larrikins. Tim Minchin was set to direct this one, along with Chris Miller. And Minchin was providing the music for the film, too. Hugh Jackman and Margot Robbie were set to lead the voice cast, with the plug being pulled back in March.

Chatting to The Observer over the weekend, Minchin has been chatting about the movie, revealing that he and his family moved to Los Angeles four years ago to develop the film. When asked about his Hollywood experience, he admitted “I’m slowly recovering from the slings and arrows of outrageous Americans”.

“The film getting shut down was awful”, he said. “It really knocked me sideways. I’m »

Ron Howard seemingly confirms that Corellia will feature in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story

This may not come as too much of a surprise, but it looks like we might finally be paying a visit to Han Solo’s homeworld of Corellia for the very first time in the Star Wars saga with next year’s Anthology movie.

Director Ron Howard, who has been very active on social media since taking over directing duties from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, has taken to Twitter to share yet another set photo, this time featuring himself and screenwriter Jon Kasdan as they try to keep warm next to a burnt-out R2 unit, complete with the caption: “Those Corellian nights get a little chilly”.

Hollywood Directors Wage War on TV Motion Smoothing, It's Liquid Diarrhea

6 October 2017 2:54 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Some of the biggest directors in Hollywood right now are rallying their troops after a declaration of war has been called against TV motion smoothing, or as Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson calls it, "liquid diarrhea." Johnson's term might be more than a little redundant, but you get the picture. Back at the end of August, Stranger Things creators, Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer, fired the first shot that may have started the motion smoothing war. The duo brought up their last visit to Comic-Con and how that really started their agitation towards the "feature" that makes everything look like a daytime soap opera. In an interview with Vulture, Matt Duffer explained the time and effort that Hollywood puts into their projects and that they ultimately look terrible when they reach home video. Duffer had this to say.

Han Solo Plot Breakdown Surfaces, Planets Set To Feature Revealed

5 October 2017 3:03 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

What with the much-publicized replacement of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with Ron Howard, the upcoming Han Solo prequel movie is currently running behind schedule. Initially, production was set to wrap up in September, but was altered to October once Howard came aboard. Even now, though, there are still scenes left to shoot.

In the wake of this delay, new details about the movie’s plot have reportedly made their way online. First up, we now might know the five planets that will be featured in Han Solo. According to Making Star Wars, they’re Corellia, Kessel, Iridium, Savareen and Vandor. The appearance of the first two will come as no surprise. Corellia is Han’s home world and Kessel is, of course, the location of Han’s famed Kessel run. We’ve even got confirmation that the planet would appear before, via one of Howard’s handy set photos. »

Disney Had “A Big Debate” About Killing Han Solo

4 October 2017 8:59 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Star Wars” will always be about two warring sides, but we’re not talking about the darkness and the light. Rather, it’s all about maximizing brand value, which often runs against making bold storytelling choices. It’s part of reason why Lucasfilm has had some directorial conflict of late, with Gareth Edwards being overrun on “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and Phil Lord and Chris Miller straight up bouncing from the upcoming Han Solo movie.

Has Thandie Newton’s Han Solo Role Been Revealed?

30 September 2017 8:49 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Back in June, production on Disney and Lucasfilm’s Han Solo spinoff ground to a halt after the abrupt firing of erstwhile directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

It’s an announcement that not only sent shockwaves through the Star Wars community, but also the industry itself, and the entire ordeal had echoes of those scathing rumors that plagued Rogue One: A Star Wars Story mid-way through filming. Bringing an end to the drama almost as quickly as it began, Disney then appointed the Oscar-winning Ron Howard in place of Lord and Miller and ever since, he’s been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the pic.

Though for all his social media updates, and there have been quite a lot, we still don’t really know anything at all about the plot. Nor do we know much about who anyone’s playing in the film – aside »
