First poster and test footage for Lesley Manning's sci-fi thriller Telepathy

4 hours ago | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

It's safe to say that British helmer Lesley Manning came to public attention in the early 1990's with "Ghostwatch," a TV show about hauntings which was passed on as a real broadcast event (a la "War of the Worlds"). For years Manning has continued to work in television, expanding into film a few years ago with the film adaptation of Martin Wagner's The Agent (I film I've never heard of, never mind seen) but when it was announced that for her next film Manning would be taking on a sci-fi thriller which would star Miranda Richardson, Sam Neill, Natalie Press and Cillian Murphy, she caught my attention.

Written by Stephen Volk (who she worked with in "Ghostwatch"), Telepathy is based in an idea as old as science: that identical twins share a bond that goes beyond blood. Here are the details on the premise:

Tom Hardy Talks Mad Max

2 December 2009 11:24 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In recent months there have been many rumblings about Mad Max 4, specifically entitled,  Mad Max: Fury Road. All have been covered here on Screen Rant – but the main one is that British actor Tom Hardy (Bronson) was being eyed to replace Mel Gibson in the titular role of Max.

No official announcement has been made about the role, but Hardy spoke exclusively with MTV about his possible appearance in the film – and he seems to be as uncertain (or unforthcoming) about the details of the film (which is due to shoot down-under next year) as director George Miller and Mel Gibson.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz quizzed the actor about the film and Hardy stated that he was far from a lock for the film:

George hasn’t actually confirmed that. It’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role.”

Tiff 2009 Day 3: Ian Fitzgibbon's Perrier's Bounty

30 November 2009 1:32 AM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

I was hoping for something original a la In Bruges, what we have here with Ian Fitzgibbon's Perrier's Bounty is much of the same stuff we've seen before: find money within 24 hours and have goons chase you around town issuing death threats. - Too bad. You'd think the trifecta of vets Brendan Gleeson and Jim Broadbent and a desperate looking Cillian Murphy would make this crime romp into a tad more passable. I was hoping for something original a la In Bruges, what we have here with Ian Fitzgibbon's Perrier's Bounty is much of the same stuff we've seen before: find money within 24 hours and have goons chase you around town issuing death threats. Too dependent on drunken sailor's lingo, lame comedy elements, uninteresting romantic story-line and swinging motions a la Tiger Woods, this feels recycled and quickly forgettable. Full review coming soon.  »

Eddie Murphy’s Return To R-Rated Comedy To Be ‘Fluffy?’

20 November 2009 3:04 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Fans of old-school Eddie Murphy, one of the greatest stand-ups of all time, may have something to get excited about – because for the first time in over 10 years he has decided to return to that which made him a household name, that which made him great: R-rated comedies. And the comedy he has chosen will be The Misadventures of Fluffy for Paramount.

Wait. What? Nevermind, everyone can sit back down. Really? The Misadventures of Fluffy? I hate even writing that title, let alone watching it. C’mon Eddie, what are you doing? Last thing we heard was that Eddie Murphy had backed out of starring in the Richard Pryor bio-pic and now we’ve got this? He’s picking Fluffy over Richard Pryor.

Now, before everyone decides to chase after him with pitchforks (ala Frankenstein), it should be known that as of right now he’s not starring in this film, »

Danny Boyle Wants Cillian Murphy for '127 Hours'?

18 November 2009 10:30 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Director Danny Boyle's next film will be the story of mountaineer Aron Ralston, famously trapped during a solo expedition for five days and left with no other alternative but to cut off his own arm to escape the situation. It's called 127 Hours, and there was talk Boyle was interested in Ryan Gosling for the role, but now he has apparently shifted his focus to a more known quantity.

News of the World says Boyle's 28 Days Later and Sunshine star, Cillian Murphy, is now the top choice to land the coveted role. I don't know where they got that information or if it's reliable, but I have little doubt that Murphy can bring about as much desperation and emotion to the role as Gosling could, so if it comes down to either actor, that's not a bad problem to have. »

Boyle Wants Cillian Murphy For 127 Hours??

17 November 2009 3:18 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

What's not to love about the British tabloids? They often produce asinine, bogus stories (Robin Williams to play Susan Boyle, Eddie Murphy is The Riddler) and their credibility worldwide is in the toilet, which gives them the freedom to write even more asinine and bogus stories. Big players in this field include the likes of The Sun and The Daily Mail, but you can never discount the smaller ones, this time being News of The World. Coming off a year in which his film took home eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, Danny Boyle is a hot ticket right now and his next project, 127 Hours, is already gaining a lot of attention. This in mind, News Of The World has published a source-less story claiming that Cillian Murphy is Boyle's top choice to play the films protagonist, in the true story about hiker Aron Ralston, »

Casting Notes: Cillian Murphy Rumored for Danny Boyle’s Next; Two For Anna Faris; Thora Birch in Bonnie and Clyde

17 November 2009 7:04 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Here's a big and very likely wholly unsubstantiated casting rumor to start the day: One of the UK tabloids is saying that Cillian Murphy is Danny Boyle's top choice to play Aron Ralston, the mountain climber at the center of his next film 127 Hours. That 'news' comes by way of News of the World, and is likely a scoop the paper got when they lined up photos of people who'd starred in previous Boyle films and had a blind guy throw darts. We're basically reporting this now as a means of saying 'don't buy it for a second'. After the break, new stuff for Anna Faris and a reminder that the crazy remake of Bonnie and Clyde didn't die quietly over the summer.Anna Faris will be in Wedding Banned, the Robin Williams romcom I mentioned back in August. She'll play the daughter of Williams. Plot has Faris being »

Michael Caine Says Batman 3 Might Not Happen

13 November 2009 1:51 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Batman's faithful butler, Alfred, has dropped bad news ... again.

Batman fans everywhere have been furiously blogging and discussing the twists and turns in the will-they-or-won't-they debate over a third installment of Christopher Nolan's revamped Batman franchise. Early on it was announced that, although lead actor Christian Bale was contractually obligated to appear in Batman 3, Nolan had no such obligation and might decide not to direct another one.

Screenwriter David S. Goyer gave fans some hope when he said that he believed Nolan would return if he could "find the story that he's happy with." Then, Gary Oldman got everyone excited when he announced that filming would begin in 2010, only to recant his statement a couple days later.

Actor Cillian Murphy, who played The Scarecrow in the first two films, is hopeful that another film will be made, and Aaron Eckhart, said that he "would do anything" Nolan asked of him, »

Pat Seals of Flyleaf Shares His Top Ten Horror Films

9 November 2009 10:24 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

As we've mentioned previously, November 10th is the release date of the band Flyleaf's new CD, entitled Memento Mori, and to help celebrate the occasion, their bass player, Pat Seals, has taken time out of his hectic schedule to prepare for Dread Central readers a list of his Top Ten favorite horror films.

Nothing relieves the stress of the holidays -- or anything really -- like a good horror flick, and Pat certainly has prepared an eclectic catalog that shows he knows his shit about our genre.

Without further ado, here's Pat's list (click each image to see the full poster):

1. The Addiction (1995) - Dir. Abel Ferrara, Starring Lili Taylor

This is my favorite vampire movie. It is the best. The best. Morality and the darkness of human nature are the focus, and Lili Taylor's performance is brutal. Plus, Christopher Walken waltzes in for a philosophical cameo. The »

10 Most Fascinating 'End of the World' Movies

8 November 2009 4:59 AM, PST | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

There are many theories, ideas or should I say 'schools of thought' on how the world would end. At the height of the Cold War, nuclear annihilation ranks at the very top. While others argue it will not be man who will destroy the world (directly) but - an epidemic of global proportions (most probably from a potent strain of virus - think: I am Legend) or severe climactic change (another ice age perhaps? That would be Day After Tommorow right?) or mechanical uprising (The Terminator, anyone?) or even attack from the outside - conquering aliens (Mars Attacks!) or perhaps an asteroid. And let's not forget zombies!

A Few Inception Details Sneak Out

27 October 2009 4:32 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The mystery surrounding Christopher Nolan's upcoming thriller Inception has been extremely hard to penetrate. Along with the earlier trailer revelation that it contains airborne hallway battles, there's the photographic "reveal" this weekend that the movie will feature a sharply dressed Leonardo DiCaprio sitting dangerously on a window sill.

In addition, Nolan favorite Michael Caine has offered up a small tidbit about his role: "I play a professor who's teaching a guy science," Caine told Empire. "It's Leonardo DiCaprio. He's going off to do a science project and he speaks to me before he goes."

Caine couldn't reveal more because he was only handed his one scene, but another Nolan regular, Cillian Murphy, has seen the entire script and still wouldn't reveal much about the movie to MTV.

This is my third film with Chris. He showed me the whole script. It's very very complex and amazing. I'm hugely excited »

Casting (Typecasting) Troubles? Ellen Page and Michael Cera need a hit

25 October 2009 11:48 AM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

There is, apparently, some bit of a problem on the acting horizons for two Canadian talents - Ellen Page and Michael Cera.

- - -

- - - A report from The Star, the online version of the largest Canadian daily newspaper, explains why:

Ellen Page and Michael Cera, the Juno duo who until recently were our brightest new cinematic lights from sea to shining sea, and also all points south of the 49th Parallel.

Halifax's Page parlayed her precociously preggers title teen in Jason Reitman's hit film into a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars, a rare Canuck achievement. Brampton's Cera came to Juno already a star, having already lit up screens here and stateside in the super-popular movie Superbad and the cult TV fave Arrested Development.

- - -

It gives me no pleasure to report this, or to baldly state the obvious reason why Cera and Page are currently floundering: typecasting. »
