When I was growing up, animated Christmas specials were an essential family tradition. Over several years, my brother and I had filled a Betamax tape with our favorites (Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Mickey's Christmas Carol, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, etc.), and as soon as the Thanksgiving turkey was finished, we simply wore it out. (To be completely honest, I couldn't swear that the tape didn't get some play on a few rainy days in July, too.) As an adult, my affection of Christmas comfort-tv is as strong as ever, and in recent years, »

Martin Freeman has said that he enjoyed making a film with Rupert Grint. The actor told BBC Newsbeat that he had not yet seen a final cut of the movie featuring Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. Freeman said: "It's called Wild Target. We filmed that this time last year. I don't know about a release date on that. Rupert Grint's in it, Emily Blunt, Bill Nighy, Rupert Everett, Eileen Atkins. (more) »

When I interviewed Bill Nighy last year, three things seemed to stand out about the man. One, he shakes hands with only the front part of three fingers like I have to imagine witches do. Two, he had a greater sense of humor about himself than anyone else I've ever met. Three, he was insanely, effortlessly cool. He continues to exude both coolness and the self-effacing grace that makes him such a charismatic personality (aside from the willingness to star in serious work and movies about werewolves fighting vampires) by claiming that he can't stand the experience of watching movies that he's in. He, like most actors who have thrown out that claim in the past, seems completely put off by seeing himself on screen. Hardly an original claim, but one that rings true for anyone who has ever seen a bad photo of themselves (be they regional theater actors or international film stars). So I decided »

Has anyone really decided what this film is called yet? It's on IMDb under The Boat that Rocked, Fandango has it as Pirate Radio, the theatre that I went to see it at displayed a poster with The Boat that Rocked, I'm confused. And so, must have been director Richard Curtis, since it became apparent during the showing that he didn't really know what he wanted to say. The most representative advertising the film did, was to say, ‘from the people who brought you Love Actually.' They both had charming and funny moments, but they both wandered around, never really sure of where they are supposed to be headed.

Bill Nighy has revealed that he hates the idea of wearing a hat as a disguise. The Love Actually star, who turns 60 next month, said that he would rather kill himself than wear a baseball cap. Nighy told The Guardian: "I'm not wearing a beanie. I'm too old for a beanie. I don't know what the cut-off age is for a beanie but it's a long time ago as far as I'm (more) »

"The Shield" writer John Hlavin will pen the script for a fourth "Underworld" at Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment reports Heat Vision. While Hlavin won't give away details on the storyline, he does confirm it's not a prequel and it should "introduce fresh elements" as the filmmakers don't want to redo the first three films. No director or stars like Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy, Michael Sheen or Rhona Mitra have signed to return. Len Wiseman, Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright are producing.... »

Bill Nighy would rather "kill himself" than wear a baseball cap. The 'Love Actually' star insists he never feels the need to disguise himself to avoid being recognised, and insists he is too old to start hiding himself under headwear. He said: "I'm not wearing a beanie. I'm too old for a beanie. I don't know what the cut-off age is for a beanie but it's a long time ago as far as I'm concerned. "Or a baseball cap? No, I'd have to kill myself. There's no need. Because everything is fine and the degree of notoriety I have is fine and easy." Screen Gems/Lakeshore have found a cheap writer to journey once again to a world of vampires and werewolves. John Hlavin has signed to pen Underworld 4.
Many media outlets are describing Hlavin as writer for FX’s “The Shield,” but he wrote two of the 89 episodes and served as story editor on four others. The rest of his resume is pretty bare though.
Kate Beckinsale has not agreed to return to the series, which Hlavin confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter “is not a prequel.” Neither has Rhona Mitra, who replaced Beckinsale as the bad ass brunette for the third movie (a prequel) titled Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
In an interview in August, Beckinsale said she would not be adverse to it, but they would have to come up with an amazing script. Then again, she thought the whole thing was a rumor at the time and she’s »

Stephen Poliakoff’s dark, labyrinthine account of England’s tumble into the Second World War was premiered at the London Film Festival this year and we were impressed by it.
As today sees the film’s release I wanted to take another look at this drama, to see if it lives up to its name.
Glorious 39 is not as glamorous as the marketing would have us believe. The posters suggest a costume drama about the brilliant and carefree life of British Aristocracy in the world of “Jeeves and Wooster”, with the faint whiff of a world war in the air. Instead, the new film by Stephen Poliakoff turns into an interesting and almost Hitchcockian conspiracy thriller.
“Almost” – because it seems that the director can not decide what type of film he is directing and keeps swinging between historic political drama and conspiracy thriller. As a result the film’s »

The star of Stephen Poliakoff's forthcoming Glorious 39 on his neuroses, playing educated toffs and why he digs David Hare
"A machiavellian dandy . . . Pure coldheartedness . . . Fabulously insincere." As I read out reviews of an old Bill Nighy performance, the actor grimaces and drums his knuckles on the table. "If ever a face was made for villainy, it's Bill Nighy's," I continue. "Wow," he murmurs. "Nighy's decadently long jaw and narrow, sneaky eyes serve him well . . ." He snorts, amused. "Sneaky eyes! Long decadent jaw! My God. I didn't know I had a decadent jaw."
Perhaps it is how Glorious 39 unfolds around him that makes you never quite trust Nighy as Alexander Keyes, a devoted father and aristocratic Conservative MP in Stephen Poliakoff's sumptuous new thriller about appeasement, set on the eve of the second world war. But perhaps Nighy has a singular talent for projecting unreliability into charming characters. »

Bill Nighy has claimed that he does not watch his movies. The actor told The Guardian that he is worried about his on-screen performances not matching up to his imagination. Nighy said: "I try to never watch. It takes me so long to get over it and I'm always so downcast. I find it really distressing. "Maybe when I'm very old, I'll sit down and watch my earlier work. But it will just depress the hell out of me. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. It's not like I'm some weirdo." He added: "You just see how far short it falls from where (more) »

Actor Bill Nighy refuses to watch himself in movies - because he finds the experience "distressing".
The Love Actually star has starred in more than 30 films, including the highly successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, since the 1980s, but he finds it difficult to watch himself on the big screen.
He says, "I try to never watch. It takes me so long to get over it and I'm always so downcast. I find it really distressing. Maybe when I'm very old, I'll sit down and watch my earlier work. But it will just depress the hell out of me. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
"It's not like I'm some weirdo. You just see how far short it falls from where you might have imagined you were heading. I have a perfectly average skewed perception of myself. We often don't know what we're like. I hope that's the case because otherwise I'll kill myself." »
