Death Becomes Her: The Best (and Easiest) Movie-Inspired Halloween Costumes.

11 October 2009 10:01 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Leave the Scream Mask at home, this Halloween Sound on Sight has you covered. Before asking "Why so serious?" with a grin only Heath Ledger can really pull off and unlike the thousands of others who will try this Halloween (like last, and like the ones to come) why not browse through other films for a more unique and obscure, generic or fun reference. Also, unless it's an ironic Eddie Murphy-vampire in Brooklyn costume, I beg you to refrain from the pointy teeth whether or not it's Twilight-intentional. The following are bound to win you some sort of prize. Most Creative Any major character from Robert Vadim's 1968 classic, Barbarella. You could be Pygar, the blind angel who has lost his will to fly; a costume that only requires a pair of wings, a cloth and a lost, apathetic facial expression. Behind the Greener Door: Three Tips for an Eco-friendly Sex Life

18 September 2009 9:47 AM, PDT | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

The Birds And The Bees. Mother Nature Network columnist Vanessa Vadim, whose latest column focuses on eco-friendly sex. Mother Nature Network eco-columnist Vanessa Vadim typically doles out environmentally friendly advice on prosaic items such as cookware, mosquito repellants, and compost piles. In her latest installment, Vadim tackles the, um, ins-and-outs of sex toys and other sexual accoutrements. The daughter of the late French director Roger Vadim (And God Created Woman, Night Games) and actress Jane Fonda (sweaty workout videos, rebellious photo-ops), Vadim posits that, thanks to a complete lack of government regulation, sexual paraphernalia is fraught with nastiness—and that’s before you take off the wrapper. Antiquated laws require that sex toys be labeled as novelties or as gags, not as something that stimulates or enhances the sexual experience. Thus, with no regulation, there is absolutely no product testing and no label warnings. Among the biggest hazards to your health: phthalates, »

Fonda Planning Christmas Wedding

6 September 2009 7:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Jane Fonda is planning to marry her boyfriend at the end of the year in front of two of her ex-husbands, according to U.K. reports.

Fonda was recently rumoured to be planning her fourth wedding, to 67-year-old record producer Richard Perry, but a spokeswoman for the actress insisted the pair will not be exchanging vows any time soon.

The couple announced their engagement at a recent party in Malibu, California, according to British tabloid the Sunday Express, and they are hoping to schedule a ceremony around Christmas to give Fonda enough time to recover from scheduled knee surgery.

A source tells the publication, "She made the announcement during a dinner party at the Malibu home of Barbra Streisand and James Brolin and now it's the biggest open secret in showbusiness. She and Richard will tie the knot over the Christmas holidays in what should be a relatively small but magical ceremony."

The publication also reports Fonda plans to invite her second husband - former politician Tom Hayden - and her third spouse, media mogul Ted Turner.

The insider adds, "They want their loved ones around them for an elegant and simple affair that will include Tom and Ted."

Fonda was also married to French director Roger Vadim, who died in 2000. »

Who Wouldn’t Want Christina Hendricks as Barbarella?

10 August 2009 8:14 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Late last week, The Hollywood Reporter updated the world on the still-going production of the Barbarella remake, which has now moved from the hands of Robert Rodriguez to those of 21 director Robert Luketic. The project was set up at Universal back in 2007, but has never really gotten off the ground, as is the case with more than a few Rodriguez-led ventures (lets face it, the man is just too busy). For those not hip to it, Barbarella follows the sexy adventures of its title character, a female mercenary who roams the universe in the distant future, undertaking missions that require fearlessness, ingenuity and sensuality. Famously portrayed by Jane Fonda in the 1968 film directed by Roger Vadim, Barbarella is known as a campy, but fun-loving sexual icon. According to recent reports, producer Dino De Laurentis and new screenwriter Joe Gazzam will be taking a new direction, focusing more on Barbarella's space adventures rather than the campiness. Barbarella Remake Gets New Life

10 August 2009 6:16 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

For the uninitiated, Barbarella is a science fiction movie from director Roger Vadim that was not very highly regarded when it was released in 1968, but is today a cult classic. The film starred then-nubile Jane Fonda in the title role and was an adaptation of the Barbarella comic books of Jean-Claude Forest. The film caused a bit of a stir because of an opening sequence featuring Fonda stripping in zero gravity and for a torture sequence where a device attempts to pleasure Barbarella to death.

There have been many who have expressed interest in doing a remake of the film over the years, but the idea never gained any real traction until it was announced in May 2007 that Robert Rodriguez was fronting an effort to bring the space vixen to life. After that announcement, rumors circulated that Rodriguez's girlfriend at the time, actress Rose McGowan, would play the role of Barbarella, »

'Barbarella' Really Headed in the Wrong Direction

7 August 2009 9:32 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

When the remake of Barbarella was put in cold storage earlier this summer, I'm sure a lot of people breathed a sigh of relief. It was one less remake to deal with and one that, more than likely, wouldn't have been done correctly, anyway.

That's the real problem with Roger Vadim's version, ultimately. It was released a few years too soon and too much in the mainstream to be the sort of strange, sexual experience it ought to be. It was those things, but dilluted. Nowadays you could probably get away with more sex and more nudity and the level of actresses willing to do that sort of thing include three Best Actress winners in the past decade.

But the update hasn't stayed on the shelf long. Robert Rodriguez was involved then he wasn't and now Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, The Ugly Truth) will direct. See, I don't think »

The Barbarella Remake Moves Forward without Rodriguez

7 August 2009 8:28 AM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

For a campy and mostly forgettable sci-fi movie (at least if you’re into sci-fi, not so much if you’re into watching a young Jane Fonda slink around the screen in various stages of half-dress), a lot of people sure seems interested in resurrecting space mercenary Barbarella. The latest news has producer Dino De Laurentiis finally getting this thing ready to shoot. THR reports that Dino De Laurentiis has hired a screenwriter to adapt the 1960s movie starring Fonda as the titular Barbarella for Robert Luketic to direct. Joe Gazzam will pen the screenplay, replacing previous writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who had completed a script that Robert Rodriguez was originally attached to direct with his fiancee Rose McGowan starring as the title character. Rodriguez has since bailed on the project. The original “Barbarella” was directed by Roger Vadim, and based on the comic books by Jean-Claude Forest. »

Fonda Recovering From Knee Surgery

17 June 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Veteran actress Jane Fonda is recovering from knee replacement surgery.

The 71-year-old star checked in for an operation to replace her left knee with a titanium rod and ceramic joint on Tuesday, and she shared the experience with fans, updating her Twitter.com site right up until the anaesthetic knocked her out.

Her last message, which included a picture of her knee, read, "Lying on a guerney (sic). Drugs are starting to hit. Wheeee. So long left knee. You're toast!"

In other messages, Fonda reminisced about her doomed joint, insisting it had been "strong and faithful" to her, and even divulging that her ex-husband Roger Vadim "liked to kiss my knees," adding, "He was French".

And, in a posting on her website, the actress vowed to defy medics' warnings her new knee will only give her 80 per cent mobility.

The fitness fanatic wrote, "By this time next year, I will have come out with a whole new line of workout products for maintaining muscle mass and flexibility and I will be doing them myself. 80 per cent my a**!" »

Is 'Barberella' Back On with Robert Luketic?

2 June 2009 1:32 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Robert Rodriguez remaking a campy 60s sci-fi flick is one thing, but Robert Luketic? Robert Luketic, the man who perpetrated Monster-in-Law? The director of Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!? That's the guy they want to redo Roger Vadim's 1968 Barbarella? Well, that's the rumor reported by Starpulse, who claim that "the project has been saved" by Luketic.

As Monika Bartyzel recapped last month, Robert Rodriguez wanted a big budget to fulfill his big dreams, and Universal balked at the budget. German financiers offered him $70 million but wanted the production in Europe, and Rodriguez balked at spending all that time away from his children. So no Rodriguez, no Rose McGowan -- the perfect choice for the character -- no modern take on Barbarella, the role in which Jane Fonda thrilled teenage boys everywhere with her slinky sexiness.

What would another Robert do with the project? The Australian Luketic famously debuted »

Robert Luketic To Direct Barbarella?

2 June 2009 2:33 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

As silly intergalactic remakes go, Barbarella would have to be up there with The Day The Earth Stood Still and a Smash robots origin story. Or so you'd imagine, except that it's happening and, suggests the Hollywood grapevine, now has 21 and Legally Blonde's Robert Luketic behind the camera.According to EW.com, producer Dino De Laurentiis, the man who's decided there's still gold in them tha' hills, appointed Luketic after his first choice Robert Rodriguez decided that Universal's German shoot would take him too far from his family in Texas. Although Luketic is a far cry from both Rodriguez and the man De Laurentiis hired for the 1968 original, French director Roger Vadim, he did direct Jane Fonda in 2005's Monster-In-Law which, while tenuous, does provide just the kind of link needed to finish this sentence. So what will the noughties reincarnation of the none-more-'60s space-age sex kitten look like? »

Robert Rodriguez Won't Remake 'Barbarella'

6 May 2009 1:50 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Much like the 8-track and Mussolini, Robert Rodriguez' reboot of Barbarella is very, very dead. The 8-track gave way to the cassette tape and Mussolini was caught trying to flee Italy dressed as a German soldier, executed, hanged upside down in a public square, and stoned.

That's not exactly what happened to Barbarella, although Germany did play a part in the downfall of both. Rodriguez' new version of the Roger Vadim cult classic was set to star Rose McGowan (not the best casting choice), and Universal balked at the price tag. The Sin City and Grindhouse co- director tells MTV he did manage to find financing elsewhere, but it just wasn't worth the hassle.

“It came to the point where [a company from] Germany offered us a $70 million budget, which would have been by far the biggest budget I ever would have had for a movie,” Rodriguez says, “But I had to »

You Didn't Really Want a Robert Rodriguez Directed 'Barbarella' Anyway Did You?

6 May 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Photo: Paramount Pictures I don't know about you, but I thought the original Barbarella starring Jane Fonda and directed by Roger Vadim back in 1968 was terrible and the idea of a remake starring Rose McGowan in the title role under the direction of Robert Rodriguez seemed just a little too on the nose to be worthy of too much attention. Then again, back when rumors began swirling saying Universal had passed on the project as a result of the budget and the attachment of McGowan as the lead, the actress came out to squash the rumors all while talking down the original... "The original doesn't have a lot to go on plot-wise," she says. "It's one thing to do a remake of something that could have been much better story wise even if it was fantastic visually. It's another thing to remake something flawless. That way if yours isn't that »

John Philip Law: Diabolik Angel

Review by John Exshaw

Towards the end of John Phillip Law: Diabolik Angel, authors Carlos Aguilar and Anita Haas describe their book as “an unfinished work”, anticipating, as they did, further films in the strange career of an actor best remembered for playing the black-clad super-criminal in Mario Bava’s Danger: Diabolik (1968), the blind angel, Pygar, in Roger Vadim’s Barbarella (1968), and the turbaned hero of The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973). Sadly, as it turned out, Diabolik Angel will stand instead as the last word on Law, who died of cancer at the age of 70 in May of last year, during the final stages of the book’s preparation.
