Rumour: Deadpool director developing a Kitty Pryde X-Men spinoff movie

If rumours are to be believed, Deadpool director Tim Miller is eyeing a return to the X-Men universe, with Collider claiming that he is currently developing a movie based around the X-Men character Kitty Pryde, played by Ellen Page in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Now, if there is any truth to this rumour, it remains to be seen how it will be impacted by The Walt Disney Company’s takeover of 21st Century Fox’s film assets. It’s been said that it is “business at usual” at Fox for the time being, and that the likes of Gambit and X-Force remain part of the studio’s slate.

That being said, Miller is currently prepping his Terminator reboot with James Cameron, and presumably once he’s finished with that, Disney and Marvel Studios will have made their decision as to how they plan to handle the X-Men moving forward.

"Deadpool" Director Has "Kitty Pryde"

  • SneakPeek
According to reports, "Deadpool" director Tim Miller is developing an "X-Men" spin-off feature, based around the Marvel Comics' character 'Kitty Pryde' aka 'Shadowcat':

The character debuted in Marvel's "Uncanny X-Men" #129 (January 1980) created by John Byrne and Chris Claremont.

A 'mutant', Kitty Pryde possesses a 'phasing' ability that allows her, as well as objects or people she is in contact with, to become intangible. This power also disrupts any electrical field she passes through and lets her simulate levitation.

During the Marvel mini-series "Kitty Pryde and Wolverine" she is renamed 'Shadowcat' and after joining 'Guardians of the Galaxy', assumes her fiancé's superhero identity as 'Star-Lord'.

In the Fox "X-Men" film series, Kitty was portrayed by Sumela Kay in "X-Men" (2000), Katie Stuart in "X2" (2003), Ellen Page in "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014).

Tim Miller Developing a Kitty Pryde Film At 20th Century Fox

  • Cinelinx
Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, is in the process of creating a film about another X-Men alum, the phasing, electromagnetic disrupting, levitating, sending Wolverine back in time mutant known as Shadowcat, aka Kitty Pryde!  More inside.

This news may come as a shock to casual viewers of the X-Men franchise at 20th Century Fox for a couple of reasons.  First, Ellen Page's portrayal of the character has always been fun to watch and interesting, but she hardly seemed the type to get her own movie.  Then there is the whole $52.4 billion elephant in the room.  You know, that deal between Disney and Fox to buy all of Fox's entertainment assets.  Why would a Fox greenlight any more Marvel-Mutant movies when Disney could just outright nix it upon completion of the transaction?

Well Dave Trumbore of Collider, who broke the story, says that Fox isn't simply going

Kitty Pryde Movie in Development with Deadpool Director

Kitty Pryde Movie in Development with Deadpool Director
It looks like Tim Miller, the man who directed Deadpool, is currently developing another X-Men project for Fox. This time, he's tackling fan-favorite character Kitty Pryde and developing a solo movie for her. At the present time, it's unclear how far along this movie is in the development stage, but the report does caution that there's no guarantee this movie will ever see the light of day, for various reasons.

With the caveat out of the way that this Kitty Pryde movie is merely being developed and not definitely going to be filming, Tim Miller is said to be "hard at work" on the project. It also isn't clear if he's writing the movie himself, or if he's just developing the idea and will bring on a writer later on in the process. It is being reported that, if all goes well and this movie makes it far enough to

X-Men: Kitty Pryde movie in development

David Crow Jan 10, 2018

20th Century Fox and Deadpool director are developing a Kitty Pryde movie in the studio's X-Men universe.

Whatever may or may not happen when the Disney-Fox deal concludes its long regulatory review process, it appears to matter little to the development side of 20th Century Fox, which seems to be proceeding with business as usual, including in the development of yet another X-Men spinoff, this one starring Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat. Further, in news that should intrigue fans, the project - which would still be in its early stages - has Deadpool’s Tim Miller attached as a potential director.

Indeed, the news comes via Collider, which reports that Miller has been developing a Kitty Pryde movie at Fox for some time as producer, and is leaving the door open to also direct the film. This might come as a surprise to some fans who are
