just now | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »
Blake Lively and Chace Crawford were on the NYC set of Gossip Girl today alongside Penn Badgley, Jessica Szohr, and Taylor Momsen. They're back to work after going their separate ways over the holiday hiatus - Leighton Meester partied in Miami while Blake Lively stayed closer to home to make sure the red-carpet scene was covered. Leighton wasn't around for the day of filming nor was she in attendance at last night's People's Choice Awards, where Nicole Scherzinger sang her part in Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad." Blake Lively lost in the the Best Dramatic TV Actress category to Katherine Heigl, though both ladies might want to check out our suggested New Year's resolutions as they look forward to a successful 2010. Polanski Lawyers Cite Dying Witness as Reason to Hold Hearing Soon
17 minutes ago | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »
At a public hearing yesterday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Chad Hummel, the lead defense attorney in Roman Polanski's criminal matter, wanted it known that although he had recently asked for an in-chambers meeting to confer about one particular issue of "great sensitivity," he had never suggested anything else shouldn't be discussed in open court. Judge Peter Espinoza didn't seem to regard the issue as all that sensitive when he nonchalantly revealed Hummel was alluding to a witness who soon might become unavailable to testify. Other than Espinoza suggesting the unnamed person's testimony could be recorded "for posterity," thus dismissing Hummel's claim an evidentiary hearing must be scheduled as soon as possible, nothing else was mentioned about the mystery witness before court was adjourned. Later I spoke with Larry Silver, the attorney for Polanski's victim, Samantha Geimer, who confirmed the »

Gibson Uses Cow Brains Goo To Aid His Bad Poker Game
32 minutes ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Mel Gibson uses a smelly ointment made from cow's brains to sharpen his mind for poker games with pals.
The movie star and his publicist Alan Nierob invited Up In The Air author Walter Kirn to join them for a card showdown as part of an article for U.S. magazine Men's Journal - and Gibson insisted on smearing the goo all over his arms before the first hand was dealt.
The actor told Kirn the substance, called Selegiline, helps to clean "the neurotransmitters," but Nierob insists the ointment doesn't help his client and friend win - Gibson's a "loser" whose losses have helped put the publicist's kids through college.
Kirn later discovers that Selegiline is actually used to "treat Parkinson's disease and alleviate depression". »
Hawke Loses His Pearl Fangs

Movie star Ethan Hawke has lost the pearl fangs he wore as a vampire in new movie Daybreakers - his daughter dropped them down the sink.
The Training Day actor became quite attached to his fake teeth, which were fitted to his real teeth for the film - and he was allowed to take them home.
His daughter also fell in love with the pearly whites, wore them for Halloween and then lost them.
Hawke says, "I loved my fangs because they were fitted to my real teeth and I could glue them on and they were really cool for parties.
"My daughter borrowed them for Halloween and she took them off and accidentally dropped them down the sink, so they're gone forever. They were pearl and they were so cool." »
Renner Paid To Beat Up Police Cadets
32 minutes ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Oscar favourite Jeremy Renner's first acting job gave him the opportunity to verbally and physically abuse police officers - and get paid for it.
The Hurt Locker star was paid $50 (GBP31.25) to act like a thug for a police training project and he admits he enjoyed every minute.
Renner was studying drama at college in California when officials from the local police academy were recruiting young actors and he signed up.
He recalls, "They asked for actors to come and get paid $50 to come and act like thugs... They asked me to be unruly.
"(They said) 'Cops are gonna come in, they're cadets in training... They're getting a call that there's a disturbance, so be disturbing.'
"So this cop walks in, a little guy... and I spit on him and I kicked him in the balls... and I got paid 50 dollars. I was like, 'Yes, I love that.'" »
Hefner Sued For Firing Playboy Party Planner
32 minutes ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Playboy boss Hugh Hefner is facing legal action for unfair dismissal after his company's former party planner alleged she was fired while on medical leave.
Jenny Lewis filed suit against Playboy Enterprises in a Los Angeles court earlier this week (begs04Jan10), naming the publishing mogul as a defendant.
She claims she was given permission from Playboy bosses to take as much time off as required after undergoing surgery and was stunned to receive a letter of termination on 4 November while she was still in recovery, ending her 11 years of employment.
Lewis' lawsuit accuses Playboy executives of 12 counts of liability relating to the California Employment and Fair Housing Act.
She goes on to accuse her former employers of gender discrimination, detailing a number of other cases where female workers were demoted to less important roles in Hefner's Los Angeles residence, the Playboy Mansion.
Representatives for Hefner and Playboy have yet to respond to the lawsuit. »

Pregnant actress Amy Adams is making sure she looks fabulous on the red carpet in the coming months by signing Carolina Herrera up as her personal maternity wear designer.
The Doubt star is beginning to bulge as an expectant mum and she doesn't want her pregnancy to get in the way of Hollywood's award season events and promotional activity for her new film Leap Year.
So she asked her favourite designer, Herrera, to create a stylish, custom-made, mum-to-be wardrobe for her.
InStyle.com reports the fashion queen has reworked pieces from her current collections for Adams to wear to parties, awards and events in the coming weeks - before the actress starts resting up as she prepares to become a mum for the first time.
Adams says, "They did such a great job."
She debuted Herrera's maternity fashions on Monday when she wore a crepe dress for an appearance on U.S. TV show Good Morning America.
And she dazzled at the Leap Year premiere on Wednesday in a red silk georgette dress. »

Actor Liev Schreiber was blown away by Scarlett Johansson in rehearsals for upcoming Broadway production A View From The Bridge - and has "kind of fallen" for the actress.
The Lost In Translation beauty is making her Broadway debut in the Arthur Miller show, which sees her play the niece Schreiber's character, Eddie Carbone, is obsessed with.
And the Defiance actor is full of praise for his co-star.
He tells Entertainment Weekly, "I've just been really impressed with her composure. Broadway is a pressurised situation and we've had a really short rehearsal period. She's really evolved so much, especially over the last two to three weeks.
"I'm blown away by her. I've kind of fallen for Scarlett."
The show previewed at the Cort Theatre over Christmas and is set to officially open on 24 January for a 14-week run. »
Thompson Encouraged Gyllenhaal To Take On Crazy Heart Role
32 minutes ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Maggie Gyllenhaal almost turned down a role in new movie Crazy Heart for the sake of her young daughter - until a text message from Emma Thompson convinced her to stop feeling guilty about juggling work with motherhood.
The Dark Knight actress admits she has limited her workload since giving birth to Ramona in 2006 and marrying the child's father, Peter Sarsgaard, in May, in a bid to spend as little time away from her family.
But she learned to find a balance between her career and her home life after her Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang co-star Thompson insisted it was fine to "drop the ball" on occasion.
She tells USA Today, "When I was a newlywed, I had no nanny and I was working on (Crazy Heart) she said, 'You have to let yourself drop the ball. Human beings do that. If you don't some really important part of you won't survive'. I think about it all the time!
"When I got this script, I was in this state of wanting something for me, selfishly, after having sacrificed a lot of things. I felt really hungry - I felt like I'd spent two years mostly focused on my daughter, which was amazing. It changed everything in my life."
Gyllenhaal admits she isn't the perfect mother but she has learned to accept she can't get everything right: "I'm very protective, and I try to keep (Ramona) out of this Hollywood stuff. But I make mistakes. I have that tug of wanting things that feel good to me and trying to figure out in what ways I have to sacrifice and what ways she has to sacrifice. I haven't been perfect at that." »
Biel's Life-changing Visit To Africa

Jessica Biel made a secret visit to Tanzania earlier this month to see first-hand how her week-long charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro will benefit poverty-stricken locals.
The actress began her 19,341-foot (5,895-metre) climb up the African peak on Thursday to fundraise and highlight the need for clean drinking water in less economically developed countries.
But before the star began the trek, she visited the African country to see how the money raised from the climb will be spent.
Biel says, "Meeting the people and community in Tanzania... has been an invaluable and eye-opening experience for me.
"My hope is that others will be inspired to find ways that they can help; starting simply in their homes and continuing to other parts of the world. We are all in this together."
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen actress Isabel Lucas and rapper Lupe Fiasco are also taking part in the Summit on the Summit expedition. »
Monjack Contemplates Suicide Over Murphy's Death
32 minutes ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Brittany Murphy's husband Simon Monjack struggles daily without his wife - and has considered killing himself since her sudden death last month, according to his mother.
The Clueless star, 32, died on 20 December after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Hollywood Hills home. She was laid to rest on Christmas Eve, but the cause of her death has been deferred pending toxicology results.
Monjack, who married the actress in 2007, is grief-stricken over his loss and often breaks down in tears, his mother Linda reveals.
She tells People.com, "Simon is exactly as you would expect someone to be who has just lost the woman he loved. Some days he wants to kill himself, and other days he seems to be coping better. He is distraught. I speak to him everyday, and he is often in tears."
Monjack's mother also opens up about her son's initial reaction to decline an autopsy on the star - revealing he didn't want his beloved wife "cut open".
Linda explains, "He didn't want the autopsy (in the beginning) for the reason that anybody wouldn't want his nearest and dearest to be cut open. He realised pretty quickly that he had to agree to it, and he's waiting for the results. He wants to know what happened."
Since Murphy's death, Monjack has formed a close bond with her mum, Sharon - and turns to her for comfort in his darkest moments.
Linda adds, "He's very strong, and he's got Sharon. They're very close, and they're keeping each other going. Simon's life has been shattered. He needs closure to be able to get on with it.
"They truly loved each other. I don't think they ever spent more than a few days apart. They were going to start a family this year."
And grieving Linda admits she will always cherish a conversation she had with Murphy and Monjack the day before her death: "Everything sounded normal and fine. It was a three-way conversation, with her laughing and talking to me in the background... She seemed in good spirits." »
