Rebecca Thomas has been hired to direct Amblin Entertainment's sci-fi film Intelligent Life.

Thomas will also do some additional writing on Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly’s original script. The story centers on a United Nations employee who monitors outer space and makes contact with a beautiful woman who may be an alien.

The project previously had Ava DuVernay attached to direct with Lupita Nyong'o to star (Nyong'o also is no longer attached). Jay Roach signed on to polish the script late last year.

The Amblin project is being produced by Frank Marshall, Big Beach's Peter Saraf and Trevorrow. Connolly »
