Avatar Takes in Another $19 Million on Monday at the Box Office

It seems that moviegoers can't get enough of the magical world of Pandora at the box office these days. Box Office Mojo is reporting that James Cameron's Avatar has taken in an astonishing $19.4 million on Monday, its 11th day in theatrical release. The site is also reporting that the figure is the second-highest non-holiday Monday gross, behind The Dark Knight's $24.4 million last summer. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel took second place on Monday with just over $12 million and Sherlock Holmes came in third on Monday with $11.1 million.Avatar currently has a domestic gross of $232.1 million and a worldwide haul of over $600 million after just 11 days. Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy team up for Night and Fog Producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have picked up screen rights for the sci-fi horror comicbook Night and Fog from publisher Studio 407, according to Variety. "This material is definitely in my strike zone in more ways than one," Adler said, noting his prior role as a producer of such horror projects as the Tales From the Crypt series. "But what really appealed to me wasn't so much the genre trappings but rather the characters that really drive this story." Set during WWII, the story revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable. No production date has been set. »

Lindsay Pulsipher joins True Blood. Lindsay Pulsipher (A&E's The Beast) has booked a recurring role on HBO's third season of True Blood, according to Variety. She joins How I Met Your Mother star Joe Manganiello, who has recently joined Alan Ball's vampire series. Other recently-cast members of the series include Cooper Huckabee, J. Smith-Cameron, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Marshall Allman, Theo Alexander, Grant Bowler, Shannon Wells, C.C. Sheffield and Natasha Alam. »
James Cameron's Avatar Continues Record-Breaking Run

Avatar Continues Record-Breaking Run IMAX Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that James Cameron's Avatar continued its record-breaking box office run during its second weekend, grossing approximately $8.8 million from 179 IMAX theaters domestically from December 25 through December 27, 2009, registering approximately 12% of the film's total domestic gross of $75.6 million on less than 3% of the screens. IMAX theaters continued to operate at virtually full capacity all weekend, driving the domestic IMAX box office to date to approximately $28 million. The IMAX international release posted an estimated total of approximately $3.6 million from 70 IMAX screens during the weekend, with the IMAX network in Poland and Japan posting record openings. The film is still scheduled to open on 11 IMAX screens in China and one in Argentina in the coming weeks. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos met on the set of All My Children. In celebration of the daytime ABC soap's 40th anniversary, All My Children is bringing back two of its alums: husband and wife Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos for two episodes Jan. 4 and Jan. 5. According to Variety, several other All My Children veterans, including La Rue, Julia Barr, Laurence Lau, Taylor Miller, James Mitchell, Leven Rambin and Eden Riegel will be part of the anniversary episodes. Its story line will have Pine Valley elected "The Most Congenial Town in America," and Hayley (Ripa) and Mateo (Consuelos) will return to their hometown for Hayley to produce and host a documentary for her television show "The Wave," as she interviews her family members, friends and citizens who all call Pine Valley home. Jan. 4 also marks the long-running soap's first day of production in Los Angeles after four decades in New York. »

Ted Dibiase Sr. wrestled under the moniker "The Million Dollar Man" and his son, Ted Dibiase Jr. just goes by Ted Dibiase and is one of the rising stars of World Wrestling Entertainment. Star Trek 2 to Start Pre-Production Next Year

Star Trek 2 starting pre-production next year It seems that a highly-anticipated sequel could get under way next year, according to one crew member of the U.S.S. Enterprise. MTV recently spoke with Star Trek actress Zoe Saldana who revealed that the sequel Star Trek 2 will start coming together next year."I spoke to J.J. and Bryan Burk, his producing partner at Bad Robot, and they are still in the middle of building the script with Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, and we'll probably be going into pre-production around this time next year." In a story from Fangoria, Marvel Studios is aiming to start The First Avenger: Captain America this June according to director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman).
