Women-Only Wonder Woman Screenings Have Some Men Very Upset

The Alamo Drafthouse is considered one of the most revered movie theaters in America, which has become well known for its hard-line stance on in-theater talking that has lead to a string of fan-favorite anti-talking PSA videos. The theater certainly isn't afraid to push the envelope, even if it brings a few trolls out of the woodwork, which was the case recently when the Austin, Texas theater announced a "women only" screening of Warner Bros.' Dceu adventure Wonder Woman. While the screening was praised by many, it also lead to a number of males voicing their frustration on the theater's social media pages. Here's the official description of this screening from the Alamo Drafthouse website.

"The most iconic superheroine in comic book history finally has her own movie, and what better way to celebrate than with an all-female screening? Apologies, gentlemen, but we're embracing our girl power and saying »

Head-Banging Stormtrooper Speaks Out, But Is He Telling the Truth? | Exclusive

Alright, it's the 40th anniversary of Star Wars and we are going to celebrate with a little bit of controversy. Last week we reported that comedian Jamie Stangroom was on a quest to find the actor who portrayed the clumsy Stormtrooper from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and is responsible for one of the most legendary movie bloopers of all time. The scene in question has a battalion of Stormtroopers entering a room, with one of them hitting their head as he enters. Stangroom's documentary, The Empire Strikes Door is attempting to tackle the issue of there being three actors taking credit for the blooper over the years. And now one of them, Laurie Goode is making the rounds claiming that he is indeed the Stormtrooper ahead of the release of Stangroom's mini-documentary.

Goode spilled his guts to The Hollywood Reporter to celebrate the 40th anniversary of »

The Jetsons Movie Lands Sausage Party Director

After gestating in development for years as a live-action adaptation, Warner Bros.' animated adaptation of The Jetsons is now moving forward. The studio's Warner Animation Group has brought on Conrad Vernon, who most recently directed Sony's R-rated Sausage Party, to take the reins of this animated movie. The filmmaker has been brought on to develop the project, with an eye towards directing it himself. It isn't clear if he will be working with another writer or if he will write the script himself.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today, with the filmmaker coming aboard keeping this project firmly entrenched within the Warner Animation Group banner. That wasn't always the case, though, with the studio previously trying to put together a Jetsons live-action movie for many years, with directors such as Adam Shankman and Robert Rodriguez attached to the project, with the later working from a script by The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg. »

Why Luke's Lightsaber Is Green in Return of the Jedi

Many fans believe that a Jedi's lightsaber color has to do with their powers or personality. But that's not the case. Especially when it came time for George Lucas to pick out the color for Luke Skywalker's new lightsaber in Return of the Jedi, after he lost his father's old blue one in Empire Strikes Back. The bright green blade had nothing to do with Luke's prowess, nor just how strong he was with the force. There was a much more pragmatic process behind the decision.

Luke's original lightsaber meant a great deal to the young Jedi. But he could never call it his, as it didn't exactly call out to him. And he didn't make it himself. He was gifted the lightsaber by Obi-Wan Kenobi in 1977's A New Hope, which celebrates its 40th Anniversary today. In the Star Wars canon, that lightsaber isn't considered 'Luke's lightsaber'. X-23 Won't Return in an X-Men Movie Crossover?

20th Century Fox's Logan marked the final performances for both Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Patrick Stewart as Professor X, but it also introduced a new character into this universe, the fan favorite X-23, played by newcomer Dafne Keen. During a Q&A session following a recent screening of the black and white version of Logan, dubbed Logan Noir, director James Mangold said he would be "shocked" if the studio didn't develop the character further, hinting that she could surface in another X-Men movie down the road. However, producer Hutch Parker thinks that isn't exactly the case, hinting that it's more likely she will get her own movie, rather than appear in a different X-Men movie. Here's what he had to say.

"I don't know definitively, but in terms of the stuff we've been talking about, it's not sort of slipping her into the background of another movie. It's looking at that character, »

Batman and Harley Quinn Trailer Teams Up Two Unlikely DC Legends

The animated adventure Batman and Harley Quinn is the latest installment of the franchise known as DC Universe Original Movies. It is a direct-to-video release that has the distinct 1990s Dark Deco look of Batman: The Animated Series, and even brings back Kevin Conroy as Batman and Loren Lester as Nightwing from the original series. New to the movie and the DC Universe is The Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch, who provides the voice of Harley Quinn.

The trailer comes to us courtesy of Entertainment Weekly and it shows a very unlikely alliance between the Dark Knight, Nightwing and Quinn. Batman and Harley Quinn forms the alliance as Batman and Nightwing try to put a stop to Floronic Man and Poison Ivy's plan to destroy Gotham by turning people into plants, but to do so they need to enlist the help of Quinn. It looks as if DC »

Ant-Man Vs. Superman: Who Wins?

A quantum physicist is making the bold claim that Ant-Man could easily defeat the Man of Steel. The news comes from the same Inverse article where quantum physicist Dr. Spiros Michalakis mentions that the Quantum Realm will be making a return in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.

Dr. Michalakis was brought on as a quantum physics consultant for Ant-Man in 2014 and on his first day of work as a consultant, he was asked what they should call it when Ant-Man gets really small. Michalakis suggested that they call it the Quantum Realm, which is a real concept that describes stuff that happens at the scale of sub-atomic particles.

So where does Superman fit into all of this? As it turns out, Dr. Michalakis was looking to put elements of modern physics into Ant-Man, which got him thinking abut superheroes in the real world. Dr. Michalakis argues that "if they were real, »

There has also been talk of what the future of this franchise may bold, but during a recent interview, producer Jerry Bruckheimer made it clear that the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will never continue without Johnny Depp.

Captain Marvel Is Taking a Trip Into the Quantum Realm

Captain Marvel, the upcoming Marvel movie starring Brie Larson, is about to get a tie into Marvel's Ant-Man. It has been relatively quiet on the Captain Marvel news front lately. We are not sure what the major plot points are going to be and we definitively don't know how Carol Danvers will obtain her superpowers in the movie, which is understandable because the movie is still a year half from being officially released. But we do know that production is expected to start sometime in February of 2018 and that it will be an origin story that differs from the original comics. We now also know that Captain Marvel will be linked to Ant-Man through the Quantum Realm.

Dr. Spiros Michalakis is a quantum physicist at the California Institute of Technology and he recently sat down for an interview with Inverse to discuss his role in working with Marvel Comics as a consult on Ant-Man. »

With the release of Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman just eight days away, Nerdist decided to put together another one of their mashup videos to celebrate the first major female superhero adventure to come from either the Dceu or McU. You may recall that, back in March, before the release of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, the site put together a video called "Belle and Bougee," a parody of the Migos song "Bad and Boujee," along with a Spider-Man: Homecoming parody "That Spidey Life," based on the Bruno Mars song "That's What I Like," which debuted last month. This music video mashup kicks things up a notch, putting a Wonder Woman spin on six iconc songs and music videos that celebrates both Diana of Themyscira and feminism throughout the past few decades.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Nathan Fillion Cameo Posters Revealed

As you may now, Nathan Fillion was supposed to have a very minuscule role in this May's hit sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But he was axed, left to die on the cutting room floor. All is not lost, though, as director James Gunn is sharing a look at exactly what this cameo would have consisted of. And it's all spoof posters.

Earlier in the month, Gunn confirmed that his friend Nathan Fillion had a small part to play in Guardians 2. Though his role would have not been an acting one. Instead, Fillion posed for a number of movie posters for a Simon Williams film festival happening at a theater that would have been seen during the Earth attack sequence played out by Ego the Living Planet.

The good news to come from this is that Simon WIlliams is now officially part of the Marvel cinematic canon. Williams »

Star Wars 8 to Unmask Captain Phasma?

Is the mystery behind Captain Phasma about to be exposed? Sure, fans already know that Gwendoline Christie is behind the mask of this fairly new Star Wars character. But we never got to see her actual face in The Force Awakens. Star Wars: The Last Jedi may be changing that.

The first hint that Captain Phasma might go unmasked was a new cover for Vanity Fair that showed Christie in full costume without her shiny chrome helmet. Now, Lucasfilm Story Group creative executive, Pablo Hidalgo has arrived with some new intel, and breaks down the mystique of this unique character even further.

When first written, Captain Phasma was a male character, leader for a battalion of First Order Stormtroopers. But feeling the need for stronger female characters at the forefront of The Force Awakens, director J.J. Abrams cast her as a woman. And Game of Thrones fans were ecstatic. Early »

Netflix's Shimmer Lake Trailer Unravels a Backwards Mystery

24 May 2017 6:46 PM, PDT

With just a few weeks until it debuts on the streaming service, Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming indie Shimmer Lake, which is slated to arrive June 9. This dark comedy is set during the aftermath of a bank robbery in a small town, but nothing is as it seems, including the actual format of the movie itself. While we can't exactly tell from the trailer, this movie is told in reverse time.

Netflix debuted the trailer for this darkly comic crime thriller on YouTube today, which follows a local sheriff named Zeke Sikes (Benjamin Walker) hunting three bank robbery suspects, one of whom is his brother Andy (Rainn Wilson). From the trailer's opening moments, we can tell that Zeke is a straight shooter, so to speak, telling his young niece Sally (Isabel Dove) that everyone in town thinks they can do whatever they want with no repercussions. »

Watch the Hamilton Cast Sing Happy Birthday to Star Wars

24 May 2017 6:41 PM, PDT

Last month at Star Wars Celebration, LucasFilm kicked off the Star Wars 40th Anniversary celebration with a huge panel featuring a number of Star Wars luminaries including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and George Lucas, just to name a few. The actual 40th Anniversary date, though, is tomorrow, with Star Wars: A New Hope hitting theaters around the world on May 25, 1977. Earlier today, a new episode of The Star Wars Show debuted, which opens with a special birthday song, performed by the cast of the Broadway sensation Hamilton.

This Star Wars birthday song comes at the very beginning of this week's The Star Wars Show, with the entire cast gathered in front of the famous Yoda statue near the front entrance of Industrial Light and Magic in San Francisco, California, where The Star Wars Show is filmed every week. However, the Hamilton cast weren't the only ones to wish Star Wars a happy birthday. »

This Fate of the Furious Bootleg DVD Cover Is Hilarious and Amazing

24 May 2017 6:17 PM, PDT

Bootlegging, piracy, whatever you want to call it is inevitable in this day and age, more so than in the past, with technology getting better and better. But while piracy tech is thriving, it appears that bootleg DVD Photoshop skills have yet to catch up with the tech of the day. We've all seen them, they're in any major city, usually sold on a blanket next to bootleg t-shirts of recently deceased celebrities and incense. Or we all have that uncle that takes business trips to China and comes home with a bag full of bootleg DVDs. Though not as popular as they were, say 15 years ago, bootleg DVDs are still a pretty decent cash flow for pirates. I imagine the only real trouble is finding someone with a DVD player or disc drive to play the hot movies.

One of the best features of any bootleg DVD is the artwork. »

Proof That Jurassic World 2 Director Is Doing Man of Steel 2?

24 May 2017 5:54 PM, PDT

Has Man of Steel 2 finally locked down a director? The sequel is most definitely in the works at Warner Bros., but not a lot has been said about where it is at in the development stage. However, it looks like the studio may have found a man to helm the Man of Steel sequel, if you follow the trailer of circumstantial evidence that has been laid out before us. So, who is this potential director? Jurassic World 2 helmer J.A. Bayona.

It isn't necessarily any one thing that leads us to believe that J.A. Bayona could be the man directing Man of Steel 2. Rather, it is several things that, when added together, seem to point in that general direction. Let's start with the latest bit of evidence, which is some eyebrow-raising Twitter activity. First off, Warner Bros. man in charge of the DC Extended Universe, Geoff Johns, recently followed J.A. Bayona on Twitter, »

Adam Sandler Gets 4-Minute Standing Ovation at Cannes, Is Oscar Next?

24 May 2017 5:34 PM, PDT

Adam Sandler received a four-minute standing ovation (yes, you read that correctly a 4 minute standing ovation) at the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera. Sandler has come a long way since nudie magazine day and this is actually his second time gaining praise at Cannes. The first time was 15 years ago for his highly underrated performance in Paul Thomas Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love. The late Roger Ebert even praised Sandler's performance in the movie stating that Sandler had "unexpected depth" and that he has "darkness, obsession, and power." This is all true, so where did that version of Sandler disappear to? If Sunday's standing ovation has anything to say about it, that Sandler is back.

The ovation came after a screening of Noah Baumbach's The Meyerowitz Stories, which is competing for a Palm d'Or this year at Cannes, the highest honor given at the event. The movie was »
