Robert Pattinson Ponders His Post-'Twilight' Possibilities
2 hours ago
From Hollywood Crush: Having been heralded to fame by the "Twilight Saga" and the once-fledgling Summit studio behind the mega-successful franchise, Robert Pattinson can't help but wonder sometimes if it's all just a fluke. "I've only done one movie outside of the 'Twilight' series, 'Remember Me,' "Rob recently said about his first post-fame project with Emilie de Ravin and Pierce Brosnan. "But even that I did with the same studio, so I guess I'm still a little bit blind as to what my actual economic viability will be outside of the series."
Robert will be testing that "economic viability" with several projects throughout 2010 including the Guy de Maupassant adaptation "Bel Ami" with Uma Thurman and the Western "Unbound Captives," which the actor discussed recently with MTV News.

'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows' Gets A Second Image, This Time With Magic
2 hours ago
As much as I try to keep things upbeat and positive here on MTV Movies Blog, there are some occasions where I have to let a little bit of cold cynicism shine in. As was the case earlier this week, when the first image emerged from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Even the film's three main stars -- Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint -- looked disappointed in that pic, which didn't even show enough of the surrounding environment for people to guess at what might be going on.
Now there's a second image, which you can see a portion of right here (check out the full version on Yahoo! UK). It may not be filled with the magic and wonderment that fans might be hoping for, but at least there's a little sorcery going on here. And strange surroundings. Where do you think Harry might be in this shot? »

'Up In The Air' Director Jason Reitman 'Wrote This Role For' Anna Kendrick
3 hours ago
From MTV.Com: Everyone's buzzing about Anna Kendrick, and not just because she's in box-office juggernaut "New Moon." Her turn as an up-and-coming corporate downsizer opposite George Clooney in "Up in the Air" has awards-season prognosticators shouting, "Oscar!"
Director Jason Reitman is such a fan of Kendrick that he wrote the part specifically for her. What he's apparently not a fan of is the "Twilight" franchise.

Terry Gilliam Looks To Robert Duvall For His Don Quixote
3 hours ago
Don't ever let it be said that Terry Gilliam doesn't have a knack for putting the right performer into the right role. My all-time favorite is his casting of Johnny Depp as Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Today's news though... if things pan out, it's going to be a mighty close second.
The word is that Gilliam wants Robert Duvall to saddle up as the Man of La Mancha in "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote." The actor revealed as much in an interview with Collider while promoting his new movie, "Crazy Heart." Nothing's definite yet, but it sounds like Duvall will have the part as soon as the project firms up.
"I may work with Terry Gilliam next - if they get the money - to play Don Quixote de la Mancha," he told Collider. It always comes back to the money. »

After 'Iron Man 2,' Looking At War Machine's Solo Show
4 hours ago
From MTV.Com: There's much ado about War Machine going on right now, and it's not hard to understand why — as you can see from the recently revealed "Iron Man 2" poster, the guy is just flat-out cool.
While "Iron Man" fans are already well aware of James "Rhodey" Rhodes, the character is set to explode even further thanks to his armored up role in "Iron Man 2," this time played by Don Cheadle. Beyond the upcoming superhero film, Cheadle is reportedly signed on for a role in "The Avengers," meaning we haven't seen the last of War Machine by a long shot.
But if the character proves popular enough, maybe Rhodey could wind up with a film franchise of his own. If that happens, here are some suggestions for how to make that "War Machine" spinoff work.

Susie Salmon Gets The Boy In This Clip From 'The Lovely Bones'
Poor Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan). She's saddled with that awful last name, for starters. She's also never going to get to enjoy a deep, lasting relationship with the dreamy Brit who asks her out in this clip from director Peter Jackson's adaptation of the 2002 Alice Sebold novel, "The Lovely Bones." That's because she's going to be brutally murdered soon.
At least she won't have to worry about that last name thing anymore.

Exclusive: Quentin Tarantino 'Thinking About A Few Different Things Right Now'
From MTV.Com: When is it too soon to start talking about a filmmaker's next project? Before the current movie arrives in theaters? After it's finished up its theatrical run? And do any of those questions matter when it comes to an auteur whose every flick is awaited with emotion that ranges from breathless anticipation to "How dare you deprive us any longer!"
Sure, Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" is still in theaters abroad — with a global box-office tally over $300 million and counting — but here in the States, attention has already turned to what the writer/director's next project will be. When MTV News had the chance to chat with Qt recently, we had to get the lowdown from the man himself.

A Terminator And A Jedi Master Meet In Today's Daily TwitPic
7 hours ago
Prepare for nerdgasm in 3... 2... 1... Commence!
Today's Daily TwitPic may not appeal to the entire Twilighter contingent reading this blog, but it will definitely appeal to fanboys and fangirls who appreciate marauding killer robots from the future and storytellers from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, California's own Gubernator, got to meet none other than George Lucas, creator of the "Star Wars" franchise. A Terminator and Jedi Master, going head-to-head. The picture is relatively tame, considering the great power these two men possess. I like to think that they're sizing each other up, preparing for some great battle. "Star Wars" would win naturally, since the ability to destroy -- or in Terminator's case, enslave -- a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force. It would be a hella cool showdown though. Hella cool.

Meredith Baxter, Tiger Woods And George Bush In Today's Twitter-Wood
22 hours ago
Former "Family Ties" mom Meredith Baxter attracted quite a few tweets when she came out on the "Today Show" this morning. Seth Meyers and Steve Agee, among others, took notice while a few others were still occupied with Tiger Woods.
Kevin Smith has been fielding posts about the title of his movie "A Couple of Dicks," which is getting a new, yet-to-be-determined title. I've included one of his tweets on the subject after the jump along with a former president introducing Jason Reitman's new film, Arnold Schwarzenegger's run-in with George Lucas and Paris Hilton's birthday message to Britney Spears. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 2, 2009.

Sundance 2010 Competition Lineup Arrives, And Here Are Some Highlights
22 hours ago
I've been fortunate enough to attend Sundance Film Festival for the past two years, and it's quite an experience. I tend to spend my time there gorging on as many movies as possible. In my two trips and 10 cumulative days spent in Park City, Ut, I've seen roughly 50 screenings. Not even as press really; writing would consume too much time.
Sundance 2010 is going to be different: either I'll be here manning the blog or out in Utah seeing only the occasional movie while participating in MTV's ongoing coverage. And manning the blog, of course. After looking at the competition lineup, just released today, I'm very much hoping that I'll be able to attend. There are some cool-looking movies in contention, and many more yet to be announced that aren't competing. Hit the jump to check out some of the highlights and then head over to the Sundance website for the full list. »

The session will last for 30 minutes, and you'll be able to send in your questions in real time, either directly through the website or through a portal on Facebook.
There's plenty more "Avatar" action coming from MTV as well, in advance of the highly anticipated 3-D blockbuster's December 18 release. The movie will be a featured component in the next episode of MTV's "Behind the Screen," which will air shortly before the theatrical release with a jam-packed collection of interviews, premiere coverage and exclusive clips. 'Eclipse' Is Coming In June, And Here's What We're Hoping Will Sell It To A Wider Audience
23 hours ago
While "New Moon" has certainly accrued fan approval and box office power since its release on November 20, critics haven't had the same appreciation for the vampire romance. "Eclipse," the next in the series, wrapped in October and is slated for a June 30, 2010 release, we have a few suggestions to help make it a film everyone -- not just Twilighters -- will enjoy.
Amp up the Bella and Edward romance
"Twilight" established the potent romance between Bella and Edward, but "New Moon" sacrificed much of the chemistry for the sake of Bella's growing bond with Jacob. Granted, the reason why Edward was mostly absent during "New Moon" was because he broke up with Bella and was moping around in an apartment for months on end, but Chris Weitz forgot to reestablish why exactly Bella and Edward were so in love. With "Eclipse," we hope David Slade explores their connection, especially with »

Patton Oswalt Has Some Words For Pre-Release 'Watchmen' Haters
2 December 2009 1:30 PM, PST
From Splash Page: Back in March, comedian Patton Oswalt had some fantastically expletive-filled words for "Watchmen" haters, those frothing fanboys and armchair critics who began to trash the movie before they'd even seen Zack Snyder's big screen adaptation of the Holy Bible of graphic novel geekery.
As the year in movies comes to a close and awards season ramps up, we caught up with Oswalt on the red carpet at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York. We wanted to know if, almost nine months later, the actor and sometime comic book writer had any more thoughts about one of the biggest comic adaptations of the year.
You better believe he did.

'Inception' Star Tom Hardy On Boxing With Leonardo DiCaprio And Christopher Nolan's 'Carpet Of Love'
2 December 2009 1:00 PM, PST
Christopher Nolan's true genius might not be in making kickass films but in getting his stars to stay amazingly silent about them. How else to explain the virtual lockdown on any plot-related details from the cast of "Inception," Nolan's Leonardo DiCaprio-starring thriller out next summer that co-star Marion Cotillard helpfully described as "about the mind."
Well that clears everything up! But recently Tom Hardy gave a call to MTV News' Josh Horowitz from the "Inception" set and did in fact kick some details about the production.
"I'm being plummeted through a floor at the moment," Hardy said during a break in shooting.
Okay, no clue what that has to do with anything, but from the look of the teaser trailer, it's gonna look crazy awesome when it all comes together. "It's an ensemble piece, but a lot of the onus of the movie falls on Leo's face," explained Hardy. »

Real Life 'Iron Man' Armor Gets MTV Splash Page Thinking...
2 December 2009 12:30 PM, PST
From Splash Page: Okay, so we're probably a long time away from developing a power source like the one powering Tony Stark's armor in "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2," but according to recent reports, we might be closer than you think to developing a version of "smart" armor like the one protecting Iron Man and War Machine.
According to Discovery News, scientists at a U.S. miltary facility in Michigan are currently researching applications for "piezoelectric" armor that can not only detect the size of bullets shot at it, but also identify the damage inflicted and generate small amounts of electricity in response. All of this could potentially allow for a similar heads-up display of the armor's current level of damage, weak points and various other conditions Tony Stark is alerted to while wearing the Iron Man armor.

Bill Murray Brings Joy To The World In 'Scrooged' For Today's Sick Day Stash
2 December 2009 12:00 PM, PST
Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
My "Rosenberg" last name speaks to my Jewish heritage, but that's never stopped "Scrooged" from being one of my favorite holiday movies. I can't remember the first time I saw this one. I might've been in a theater, but it could just as easily have been on cable. Doesn't matter. It's a brilliant send-up of Charles Dickens' classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly pursuers, "A Christmas Carol." And it stars Bill Murray. So it's pretty much perfect. »

'Babies' Trailer Will Make You Smile No Matter How Black Your Heart
2 December 2009 11:30 AM, PST
Doesn't matter where you live, what you are, what you've done or how you view the world. If you're old enough to spawn, and you've done so, that little version of you is adorable. And that's what "Babies" is all about. A documentary looking at four infants in four different parts of the world. I think EW's PopWatch sums it up well: "If you got teary during March of the Penguins, this one looks even more awwww-inspiring."
Step out of your cynical, jaded worldview for a moment and enjoy this helping of adorable.

Eli Roth Producing Environmental Sci-Fi Action Film 'Invasion'
2 December 2009 11:00 AM, PST
Summit Entertainment, hot off "New Moon"'s golden box office performance, is announcing a number of projects this week, including a sci-fi action movie titled "Invasion," which will be produced by horror filmmaker Eli Roth and Eric Newman ("Children of Men"). According to ShockTillYouDrop.com, the idea is being compared to "Cloverfield," likely in the way it will depict an apocalyptic situation from the limited perspective of a small group of protagonists.
The project, which began with a spec script by Ben Magid, is said to have an environmental theme, putting it in the same boat as "The Happening" and "The Day After Tomorrow." I'd like to suggest Roth and Newman hire filmmaker Larry Fessenden to direct now that he's no longer doing Guillermo del Toro's "Orphanage" remake. Fessenden has proven with films like "The Last Winter" that environmentalist themes don't have to be cheesy or too preachy.
As for the "Cloverfield" similarities, »
