Joss Whedon is still on board as director for Batgirl, despite recent rumours

Despite recent rumors that director Joss Whedon was no longer involved in the upcoming Batgirl film, the director may still be on board after all.  EW claims to have several sources confirming that Whedon is, in fact, still attached to the film. The report claims that Joss Whedon is actively writing the script, and that there have been no talks whatsoever about the director leaving, or being fired from the project.

The initial rumors of his removal popped up right around the time that Justice League hit theaters. The film has been more-or-less panned critically, and has struggled at the box office with the lowest domestic opening of any Dceu movie. Now, given that Whedon put the finishing touches on the film, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that Warner Bros. were less than pleased with the director, and decided to end their working relationship. Also, it’s important »

The Punisher Season 1 Episode 7 Review – ‘Crosshairs’

Liam Hoofe reviews the seventh episode of Marvel’s The Punisher

For a brief moment towards the end of ‘Crosshairs’, the seventh episode of The Punisher, I was worried that the show was going to pull the usual Marvel trick and bump off one of the main villains halfway through the season. Once again, though, The Punisher proved me wrong, and in a brilliant twist, Frank’s perfect shot at Agent Orange simply cracked the antagonist’s window.

In fact, Crosshairs, despite its title, was the one episode of the series where Frank has successfully managed to complete a mission without killing a single person. An earlier sequence in the episode saw Frank interrogating Agent Bennett, one of the men who betrayed him, only to be interrupted by Billy Russo and his minions. Frank dropped a smoke grenade, and the show gave us one of its most fun action sequences yet. »

Rian Johnson is at the “very beginning” stages of planning his new Star Wars trilogy

Earlier this month, it was announced that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson would be directing a brand-new trilogy set in the Star Wars universe. These films would be canon, but not following the Skywalker saga, effectively allowing the director to let his imagination go wild. So how much thought has Rian Johnson put into the project so far? Well, according to him, he’s still at the starting line (via Youtube):

“We’re gonna have to see. I’m just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be. But I can tell you this, what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world. There’s just so much potential and I can’t wait to jump into it.”

That awesome Batman opening to Justice League originally had a more comedic tone, according to actor Holt McCallany

Justice League has polarized fans, and isn’t exactly leaping-tall-buildings-in-a-single-bound at the box-office. However, one thing that everyone seems to agree on: the opening was awesome. Gotham City felt alive in a way that hasn’t been captured since Tim Burton’s Batman. The colors, dialogue, fight choreography… it simply felt right. Another pleasant surprise was (the Excellent) Mindhunter’s Holt McCallany being the subject of Batman’s rooftop beating. According to McCallany, that opening – which was written and directed – was originally very comedic. Speaking to Men’s Fitness, the actor reveals that Warner Bros. was not too keen on opening with a comedic scene:

“I love Joss Whedon. My scene with Batman was originally conceived as a comedic scene. That’s how Joss wrote it, and that’s how we shot it. I thought it came out great, but the studio felt it would be a mistake to open »

The Incredibles 2 becomes the most viewed animated trailer ever

Last week Disney-Pixar unveiled the first trailer for The Incredibles 2, director Brad Bird’s follow-up to his beloved 2004 animated superhero comedy, and well, the reaction was rather incredible.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the trailer racked up over 113 million views by the end of the weekend, making it the most-watched animated trailer of all time, and the seventh-highest viewed trailer ever. Given those kinds of numbers, it seems highly likely that Disney has another huge hit on its hands this coming summer.

“Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is »

Comic Book Review – Doomsday Clock #1

Ricky Church reviews Doomsday Clock #1…

For over 30 years, Watchmen has been considered one of the best graphic novels ever created, breaking new ground for comics with its serious themes, characters and deconstruction of the superhero genre. Now DC’s Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank is crossing Watchmen over with the DC Universe after over a year of build up with DC Rebirth, pitting Superman against the powerful and omnipotent Dr. Manhattan in Doomsday Clock. If this first issue is anything to go by, Johns is creating yet another memorable series. Spoilers will follow…

Rather than starting things off in the Dcu, continuing the threads of Rebirth’s mystery of what exactly Manhattan has been doing to the heroes in stories such as The Button, ‘A Lonely Place of Living’ and ‘The Oz Effect, Johns instead places nearly this whole issue in the world of Watchmen. Set seven years after the events of that book, »
