X-Men: The New Mutants is “a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers”

Last week it was announced that production has wrapped on 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: The New Mutants, and now Fox’s Stacey Snider has been chatting to Variety about the Josh Boone-directed X-Men spinoff, describing it as “a haunted-house movie with a bunch of hormonal teenagers”.

“If we’re going to make a superhero movie, we have to ask ourselves: ‘What’s our version? What’s a Fox Marvel film?'” said Snider. “When you look at films like Deadpool or Logan or the upcoming New Mutants, you’ll see they have their own personality. Great effort has been put into making sure they’re differentiated. New Mutants is about these teenagers who are just coming into their powers. It’s like watching mutants go through adolescence and they have no impulse control, so they’re dangerous. The only solution is to put them in a Breakfast Club »

The Defenders is Netflix’s least-watched Marvel series in its first month

After more than two years of build, Netflix brought its four street-level Marvel heroes together last month as the streaming service assembled Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn JonesIron Fist for The Defenders.

While Marvel and Netflix were surely hoping this would be their small screen version of The Avengers, the miniseries met with a mixed reception from fans and critics, and now comes word that it has failed to live up to the success of its predecessors in terms of viewership.

Unlike TV networks, Netflix doesn’t reveal exact viewing figures for its shows, but according to marketing analytics agency Jumpshot, The Defenders enjoyed just 17% of the viewership of Daredevil season 2 – Netflix’s best-performing Marvel season – in its first 30 days. For comparison, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones managed 28%, 27% and 26% respectively. The stats also show that The Defenders »

Frank Grillo claims that Marvel still has plans for Crossbones

Despite his demise in Captain America: Civil War, it seems that Marvel may still have plans for Crossbones in the McU, with actor Frank Grillo teasing some “interesting” news about his character Brock Rumlow.

“I have three boys who are fanatical about Marvel, and I was surprised not too long ago because there is some news that nobody knows yet, to do with my character, that’s going to be really interesting and I’m excited about that,” Grillo told Forbes.

Assuming Rumlow didn’t survive the explosion in Civil War, we’d have to assume that the character would be appearing in some kind of flashback, perhaps even in the 90s-set Captain Marvel movie. Although with Avengers: Infinity War on the horizon and Thanos set to wield the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, anything is possible…

Update: Matthew Vaughn wanted to make a young Wolverine movie before X-Men: Days of Future Past

Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class breathed new life into a franchise in dire need of resuscitation after the fiasco that was Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand. By going back to where it all started, Vaughn was able to flesh out the stories of the series’ two cornerstone characters: Charles Xavier and Magneto. What resulted was a very satisfying film that focused a lot on character.

Strangely, after the success of X-Men: First Class, Matthew Vaughn opted out of any further sequels. One of the biggest reasons, of course, is that Bryan Singer wanted to take back control of the franchise. However, speaking to Uproxx, Vaughn reveals another surprising reason:

“The reason I haven’t done sequels in the past is they just weren’t exciting me. And on Days of Future Past, even though I co-wrote the bloody thing, the reason I bailed out of it is two things: First, »

Movie Review – Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict

Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict

Directed by Andy Remic.

Synopsis:

A documentary feature film based on Andy Remic’s memoirs growing up with the Zx Spectrum; part cinema drama, part interviews, part nostalgic journey.

The Zx Spectrum back in the 1980’s was one of the computers to have in your home. Forget your Nintendos and your SEGAs, and I’d say forget PlayStation, but back in the 1980’s they weren’t even a twinkle in Sony’s eye, as they were still concentrating on their excellent Betamax recorders.  Now from Andy Remic comes Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict, a film which brings to the screen numerous memories that are so firmly wrapped around the classic Sinclair machine.

It’s clear from the off that Andy has made this with total love for the Zx Spectrum, with loading screens separating the chapters, classic cassette boxes on show and recounts of days gone by. »
