Wrestling Daily News Roundup – Two Impact Stars Headed to WWE?, The Miz Return Update, WWE Holds Annual Tribute to the Troops

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Two Impact Stars Headed to WWE?

When you take a look back at superstars that never got the chance to achieve their full potential in the WWE, two names often come in the discussion – Ethan Cartner III and Lashley. The two men, both former WWE employees, have gone on to become two of the biggest stars in Impact Wrestling and many fans have long hoped that they would get another chance to prove themselves in the WWE.

Well, it looks as though we may not have to wait for this much longer. Dave Meltzer, in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, indicated that the duo could well be heading back to their former home when their contracts expire with Impact Wrestling. While it is not clear exactly when that is, it looks as though it may be in the coming months.

Movie Review – American Jedi (2017)

American Jedi, 2017.

Written and Directed by Laurent Malaquais.

American Jedi is a documentary film about three Star Wars fans who become candidates for knighthood and must confront the darkest issues from their past in order to be accepted into a real-life Jedi community.

There is a growing thought among the skeptic community that you cannot have violence without a religious belief. It developed out of numerous ideas pioneered within irreligious groups, the most notable one being that belief systems inherently create cults that in turn create brainwashed acolytes. Long-standing religions in the contemporary geopolitical atmosphere find themselves under heavy attack for their associations with inherently evil acts, no matter the importance of other factors, such as the growth of Islamic terrorism in the Middle East, the covering up of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, and the ethnic cleansing in Myanmar by radical Buddhists amongst others.

The latest chapter of the Star Wars saga kicked off its box office run this past Thursday, with Star Wars: The Last Jedi recording the second biggest Thursday preview takings in history in North America with over $45 million. The record of $57 million was set by its predecessor Star Wars: The Force Awakens back in 2015.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is tracking a domestic opening weekend of around $200 million, and is expected to gross somewhere in the region of $425 million worldwide by close of play on Sunday. That would be the third biggest opening of all time after The Fate of the Furious on $541.9 million and Star Wars: The Force Awakens on $529 million, although unlike the two Star Wars movies, the latest entry in the Fast & Furious series also opened day and date in China. The Last Jedi does not make its way to the Middle Kingdom until January 5th.

Sebastian Stan wants to play “middle-aged Luke Skywalker” in a Star Wars spinoff

It’s a commonly known fact that actor Sebastian Stan bears a scary resemblance to a young Mark Hamill. So much so, that Mark Hamill has given the actor his blessing to play a young Luke, and the two frequently poke fun at the resemblance on social media.

Now, a Luke Skywalker spinoff could work for a number of reasons, and it seems that Sebastian Stan has tuned into that. Chatting with Esquire, the Marvel actor reveals the version of Luke Skywalker that he feels the most right for:

“I feel like I have some sort of his blessing. I didn’t even realize it actually, I used to love Luke Skywalker when I was younger. Then a friend said to me, they’ve already done young Luke Skywalker, so you would be middle-aged Luke Skywalker… That’s where I’d come in.”

Pros and Cons of Rocket League Trading

I had a conversation with a friend the other day due to this entire hubbub about EA’s decisions with Star Wars: Battlefront II. My friend is in with the crowd that the only microtransactions done right are the ones that don’t exist. I think that microtransactions are fine as long as they’re implemented reasonably and have no bearing on your actual performance in a game. With that said, Rocket League is, perhaps, one of the few paid games that do it right, especially since they’ve added player trading in the game.

The Microtransaction Mania

Some folks might find it a predatory practice to put microtransactions in an already paid game, implying that the companies that make said games are just hungry for your money. While that might be true in the case of EA, I’m inclined to disagree on the side of Psyonix and Rocket League. »

Hugh Jackman has a very interesting story behind his initial pitch for The Greatest Showman, and it involves some blood

Let it never be said that Hugh Jackman is not a slave to his craft. Sure, a die-hard method actor like Christian Bale drops, and gains weight more often than Ant-Man, but his dedication pales in comparison to the story below.

See, Hugh Jackman has wanted to get The Greatest Showman — a film that tells the story of iconic showman P.T. Barnum — made for seven years, and he wasn’t going to let a little thing like cancer stand in his way. Recently, appearing as a guest on The Today Show, the Logan actor recalls the time that he was pitching The Greatest Showman:

“I had a skin cancer and [the doctor] said, ‘You gotta get it out.’ I said, ‘Can we wait until like after the performance?’ He goes, ‘No, it’s cancer.’ So, he put 80 stitches in my nose and everything was fine. And I thought, I’ll turn »

48 Hours to get the remake treatment from the makers of Good Time

Benny and Josh Sadfie are riding the wave of success off the back of the Robert Pattinson crime drama Good Time by signing on to remake Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte cop/convict buddy flick 48 Hours.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that comedian Jerrod Carmichael (NBC’s The Carmichael Show) will co-write the script along with Ronald Bronstein, who also wrote Good Time with Josh Safdie.

The Walter Hill directed 48 Hours was at the forefront of the R-rated buddy movie in the early 80s. It saw Murphy and Nolte play to type as wisecracker and gruff cop, who teamed up to hunt down a pair of cop-killers. The film was a huge hit at the time, grossing $79m at the domestic box-office.

With the recent confirmation of Lethal Weapon 5 it appears that the buddy movie could be making something of a non-ironic comeback. With this in mind, what other properties »

Dwayne Johnson compares Disney’s Jungle Cruise to Indiana Jones

Dwayne Johnson is set to follow up his adventures in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle by returning to the wilderness for Jungle Cruise, based upon the Adventureland attraction at Disney theme parks.

While details on the plot are being kept under wraps, Johnson has been chatting to Entertainment Weekly about the project, revealing that he will be starring as the captain of a boat on the Amazon River.

“[It’s] full on adventure,” said Johnson. “Think Indiana Jones — those kinds of adventures. I’m very, very excited about it. This is where I really started to understand the power of Disney, just in terms of the deep dives that they do with their projects — with all of their projects. Because obviously they’re a studio and publicly traded, but specifically with projects like this where it’s based off a ride and based off an beloved attraction, like Pirates of the Caribbean, »
