11 October 2009 10:01 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Leave the Scream Mask at home, this Halloween Sound on Sight has you covered. Before asking "Why so serious?" with a grin only Heath Ledger can really pull off and unlike the thousands of others who will try this Halloween (like last, and like the ones to come) why not browse through other films for a more unique and obscure, generic or fun reference. Also, unless it's an ironic Eddie Murphy-vampire in Brooklyn costume, I beg you to refrain from the pointy teeth whether or not it's Twilight-intentional. The following are bound to win you some sort of prize. Most Creative Any major character from Robert Vadim's 1968 classic, Barbarella. You could be Pygar, the blind angel who has lost his will to fly; a costume that only requires a pair of wings, a cloth and a lost, apathetic facial expression. From “Devil Girl from Mars” to Jane Fonda as “Barbarella,” Star Babes have been a part of our pop culture consciousness for decades. Fisher — and his cartoon buddy, 3-D Pete — takes a look at some of the more noteworthy Star Babes from television and movies.

In a recent interview, Fisher said, “In these trying times, our nation can’t afford to ignore voluptuous women from the stars in skimpy outfits.”

Jessica Alba is reportedly the favourite to take the role of Barbarella in the upcoming film remake. The original film, which starred Jane Fonda, was set in the far future and told the story of a highly sexual female mercenary given the task of finding the evil Durand-Durand. Who Wouldn’t Want Christina Hendricks as Barbarella?

10 August 2009 8:14 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Late last week, The Hollywood Reporter updated the world on the still-going production of the Barbarella remake, which has now moved from the hands of Robert Rodriguez to those of 21 director Robert Luketic. The project was set up at Universal back in 2007, but has never really gotten off the ground, as is the case with more than a few Rodriguez-led ventures (lets face it, the man is just too busy). For those not hip to it, Barbarella follows the sexy adventures of its title character, a female mercenary who roams the universe in the distant future, undertaking missions that require fearlessness, ingenuity and sensuality. Famously portrayed by Jane Fonda in the 1968 film directed by Roger Vadim, Barbarella is known as a campy, but fun-loving sexual icon. According to recent reports, producer Dino De Laurentis and new screenwriter Joe Gazzam will be taking a new direction, focusing more on Barbarella's space adventures rather than the campiness. Barbarella Remake Gets New Life

10 August 2009 6:16 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

For the uninitiated, Barbarella is a science fiction movie from director Roger Vadim that was not very highly regarded when it was released in 1968, but is today a cult classic. The film starred then-nubile Jane Fonda in the title role and was an adaptation of the Barbarella comic books of Jean-Claude Forest. The film caused a bit of a stir because of an opening sequence featuring Fonda stripping in zero gravity and for a torture sequence where a device attempts to pleasure Barbarella to death.

There have been many who have expressed interest in doing a remake of the film over the years, but the idea never gained any real traction until it was announced in May 2007 that Robert Rodriguez was fronting an effort to bring the space vixen to life. After that announcement, rumors circulated that Rodriguez's girlfriend at the time, actress Rose McGowan, would play the role of Barbarella, »

New Scribe Hired For "Barbarella" Remake

8 August 2009 4:34 PM, PDT | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

After seemingly disappearing into a black hole, the "Barbarella" remake has suddenly re-appeared on the horizon. Joe Gazzam has been tapped to pen a new version of the the screenplay centering on the character made famous by Jane Fonda in the 1968 original says The Hollywood Reporter. Based on Jean-Claude Forest's 60's French comic, "Barbarella" centers on a female mercenary who roams the universe of a distant future, undertaking missions that require fearlessness, ingenuity and sensuality. The remake will drop the 60's camp with more of a focus on adventure. The sexuality will be kept in, but likely toned down somewhat. Robert Rodriguez was attached to direct and Rose McGowan to star in the project back in early 2007 from a script by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. However... »

The ‘Barbarella’ Remake Won’t Die

8 August 2009 4:19 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

In 2007, Universal and Robert Rodriguez started working on a remake to 1968’s Barbarella, a science fiction story that starred Jane Fonda.  His girlfriend, Rose McGowan, was set to take the lead and writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote a script for her.  The studio didn’t want to shoot in Austin, where Rodriguez houses his green screens at Troublemaker Studios, so everyone eventually dropped the idea.

The producers have hired a new writer to take another shot at this remake no one really wants and without a studio attached.  According to THR, Joe Gazzam will write the screenplay for director Robert Luketic.  Gazzam wrote a script for 21 Jump Street and a John Carpenter movie, Riot.

New writer, director for new Barbarella

7 August 2009 12:13 PM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Screenwriter Joe Gazzam has been hired to work on the latest iteration of sci-fi heroine Barbarella, this time for director Robert Luketic.

The remake is no longer set up at Universal Pictures. Two years back it was under the creative guidance of Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Planet Terror) who pictured his girlfriend Rose McGowan in the lead role. A script by frequent James Bond scripters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade had been commissioned but failed to get off the ground.

The Luketic version also has the involvement of the original 1968 film's producer Dino De Laurentiis. Martha De Laurentiis, Dino's wife, is also producing.

The new Barbarella idea is said to tone down the in-your-face sexuality that Jane Fonda's version had and ramp up more of the adventure quotient. »

'Barbarella' Really Headed in the Wrong Direction

7 August 2009 9:32 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

When the remake of Barbarella was put in cold storage earlier this summer, I'm sure a lot of people breathed a sigh of relief. It was one less remake to deal with and one that, more than likely, wouldn't have been done correctly, anyway.

That's the real problem with Roger Vadim's version, ultimately. It was released a few years too soon and too much in the mainstream to be the sort of strange, sexual experience it ought to be. It was those things, but dilluted. Nowadays you could probably get away with more sex and more nudity and the level of actresses willing to do that sort of thing include three Best Actress winners in the past decade.

But the update hasn't stayed on the shelf long. Robert Rodriguez was involved then he wasn't and now Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, The Ugly Truth) will direct. See, I don't think »

Barbarella Remake Fires Back Up

7 August 2009 9:12 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Producer Dino De Laurentiis and his wife Martha are set to produce a remake of 1968's Barbarella that starred Jane Fonda as the titular outer space mercenary. Robert Rodriguez began the Barbarella remake project back in 2007 with Universal set to distribute and Rose McGowan lined up to star. A script was completed but the director and studio parted ways after a shooting location could not be agreed upon. For round two of getting a Barbarella remake off the ground, a new script will be penned by Joe Gazzam whose only completed writing credit is John Carpenter's Riot, set for release in 2011. He will reportedly keep the sensuality and seductions the character is known for but drop the cheesiness and shoot for an all out adventure film. The Ugly Truth's Robert Luketic is already on board to direct. A timetable has not been set for release. »

The Barbarella Remake Moves Forward without Rodriguez

7 August 2009 8:28 AM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

For a campy and mostly forgettable sci-fi movie (at least if you’re into sci-fi, not so much if you’re into watching a young Jane Fonda slink around the screen in various stages of half-dress), a lot of people sure seems interested in resurrecting space mercenary Barbarella. The latest news has producer Dino De Laurentiis finally getting this thing ready to shoot. THR reports that Dino De Laurentiis has hired a screenwriter to adapt the 1960s movie starring Fonda as the titular Barbarella for Robert Luketic to direct. Joe Gazzam will pen the screenplay, replacing previous writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who had completed a script that Robert Rodriguez was originally attached to direct with his fiancee Rose McGowan starring as the title character. Rodriguez has since bailed on the project. The original “Barbarella” was directed by Roger Vadim, and based on the comic books by Jean-Claude Forest. »

Barbarella Remake Gets a Writer

7 August 2009 7:03 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

You just can’t keep a good space girl down. First, the remake of Jane Fonda’s 1968 campfest Barbarella rises from the ashes of Robert Rodriguez’s now-defunct $70 million Heavy Metal-meets-Star Wars vision; then the newly resurrected Barbarella scores a fairly good director in the form of Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, 21). Now comes word that Barbarella has snagged a writer named…Joe Gazzam?

Never heard of him? Me either. And, according to his (brief) IMDb resume, neither has anyone…yet.

In an effort to answer the question, Who is Joe Gazzam? I went searching on the Interweb and turned up the following info from the website Film Industry Bloggers:

Joe Gazzam recently sold his first two scripts, entitled “Scared Straight” and “Straight & Narrow”. He’s currently completing an assignment for Sony to write the film version of the hit TV show “21 Jump Street.” He also sold his first show entitled “Deputized” to the Sci-fi Network. »

That 'Barbarella' Remake Just Won't Die

7 August 2009 5:45 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

News of a remake of the Jane Fonda starring 1968 sci-fi feature Barbarella just won't go away. Today The Hollywood Reporter brings word the film has now fallen into the hands of Robert Luketic, the unimpressive director of 21 and The Ugly Truth. Unknown scripter Joe Gazzam is penning the screenplay. Such news is surprising to me considering Universal buried the project when Robert Rodriguez was set to direct the remake from a script written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade with Rose McGowan set to star in the title role. Several rumors have been spread as to the reason that attempt fell apart from budget, a lack of faith in McGowan as the lead and filming location disputes. Strangely, the fact the idea for a remake is just a plain bad idea hasn't been mentioned. Original producer Dino De Laurentiis is producing with his wife as the remake is said to »
