As always seems to be the case, if you want spoilers on the hottest movies today, you need to have your eyes on the world of plastic!
Mezco may have lost the New Line House of Horrors license to Neca, but it seems they'll be dishing out some A Nightmare on Elm Street goodness alongside the new film anyway. Your Living Dead Dolls and Mez-Itz collections are about to get some new fiends! The new Freddy Krueger Living Dead Doll is due out March of 2010. Although we don't have a release date for the Mez-Itz 6-inch figure, we suspect it will drop around the same time.
As a bonus, we've also uncovered a Perseus Mez-Itz figure from the new Clash of the Titans film! Does this mean we'll be getting new Clash of the Titans action figures??!! Seems a no-brainer, but whether we'll get them at all and whom they »

To continue my review of my epic journey to watch all my films from A-z, this is the Third part.
For those that don’t know I am watching all 700+ Dvd/Bluray films from A-z which has so far taken me 2+ years to get to the end of G’s!
I thought I should retrospectively review each letter and give my top 5 films from each alpha block and maybe bring your attention to some films you may not have seen, films you’ve not seen in ages or films you should give another try.
Another letter and another bunch of classics I should own and a selection of ones I’m glad to say I don’t own.
A few to mention are Catwoman, Cannonball Run, Cape Fear, Clash of the titans, Cool running’s, City lights, Chinatown, City of God, Cheerleader Ninjas, Cool as Ice, City on Fire and Casablanca. »

It shouldn’t be completely surprising that an actor of Anthony Hopkins stature has decided to take the role of Odin, the father of Thor and Loki, in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming big screen adaptation of the comic Thor. After all, famous actors playing parts such as this in big budget fantasy or genre movies is not completely unheard of.
As an example, take a look at the original Clash of the Titans, which featured the great Laurence Olivier as Zeus. Or, how about a little movie called Star Wars, which cast the great Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi. Plus, Hopkins himself has been in a few genre movies previously, including Dracula and The Silence of the Lambs.
In case you’re not familiar with Thor, the film, which is scripted by Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz, centers on partly disabled med student Dr. Donald Blake’s discovery of his Norse god alter ego, »

All aboard the Avatar train! Next stop Pandora!
I won’t lie: I have been on the skeptical side of the fence when it comes to Avatar. Not because I thought the film was going to be a dud or not fun to watch, but because I didn’t think all the hype was justified. Well, I just watched the International Trailer for Avatar, and I must say, color me impressed. Today, Coming Soon has dropped a new behind-the-scenes featurette on the making of Avatar and it gives some further insight on the film.
Avatar is the 10+ year brainchild of Aliens director James Cameron and is supposed to be the greatest achievement in cinema since the addition of color and sound. The 20th Century Fox endeavor is reported to have a production budget somewhere between $200 and $300 million, which would make it the most expensive film created to date. There is »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.
So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…
When is it? – 9th April.
Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico
Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

Variety have reported today that Pinewood Studios £200m expansion plan has been rejected. South Buckinghamshire District Council rejected plans to create several permanent film sets on 110 acres of land due to local opposition’s complaints about building on a green belt. The sets who have included re-creations of San Francisco, New York’s Tribeca neighborhood, New Orleans, Venice’s Canale Grande, Berlin and Montmartre in Paris and 1400 homes.
Variety report:
Jacquetta Lowen-Cooper, chair of the council’s planning committee, said, “To have allowed this development of more than 110 acres in the greenbelt and Colne Valley Park would not only have caused significant degradation to the local environment and quality of life of local residents but would also have set a precedent, potentially undermining the council’s future ability to resist inappropriate greenbelt developments elsewhere in the district.”

If you are like me (and we can only hope you have more of a life than I do), then when you read the title you were hoping it was a remake or sequel to the awesome young boys monster movie from the 80’s, The Monster Squad. Alas, this is not the case because the Warner Bros film was previously titled Nightcrawlers and will be a supernatural action comedy. Great, that means somewhere Will Ferrell will make a ridiculous cameo or heaven forbid, have a starring role.
Warner Bros. Studios has tapped Mike Mitchell (Sky High, Shrek Forever After) to helm the new Monster Squad movie which will work off of a nine year-old spec script written by Brian Lynch and rewritten by Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs). Donald De Line (The Italian Job) is attached to produce and the studio hopes to start filming next summer 2010.

As a big fan of Warren Ellis and his writing, I’m particularly happy to report that one of my favorite comics of his, Gravel, has now been optioned by Legendary Pictures for development as a feature film. This latest acquisition by Legendary makes a lot of sense considering they have several genre projects already going including Inception, Sucker Punch, Jonah Hex and Clash of the Titans.
In case you’re not as familiar with Gravel as you should be, it was created by Ellis in 1999 and is published by Avatar Press in its most current form. It centers on William Gravel, a soldier in the British S.A.S. who uses his skills in dark magic to moonlight and battle supernatural beings for clients in order to make extra cash. Along the way he encounters all manner of nastiness but still manages to not only survive, but to flourish. »

I like the cut of Legendary Pictures' jib. A company that produces Batman Begins, 300, The Dark Knight and Watchmen is one to salute, and their upcoming slate is nothing less than exciting. (Inception, Sucker Punch, Jonah Hex, Clash of the Titans, and Sam Raimi's Warcraft are just a few films they've got cooking for 2010 and beyond.) So when they option a title, I feel like you have to sit up and take notice because it's landed in pretty good hands. Throw in a Warren Ellis title and you might just have The Next Big Thing. Variety reports that just such a deal has gone down, as Legendary Pictures has optioned Warren Ellis' Gravel.
William Gravel is the star of an ongoing series published by Avatar Press (picture James Bond with a few more tricks up his sleeve). By day, he's an Sas sergeant-major, and by night he's a combat magician with mercenary tendencies. »

One of these days one of Warren Ellis' comic books will get turned into a movie. Eventually the numbers just have to win out.
The latest Ellis project to get optioned is Gravel, one of the author's lesser known comic books and published by Avatar Press. The book follows the odd jobs taken by William Gravel, a British soldier who practices magic on the side to make some extra money. There have been six mini-series featuring the character in books with the titles Strange Kiss and Strange Killing and then he got his own ongoing series, Gravel, which launched last year.
Legendary Pictures got the screen rights, the company that's making Clash of the Titans, Jonah Hex and Warcraft. Ellis gets to write the screenplay and will receive an executive producer credit on the film.

It seems like everyday a new comic book movie gets announced. And today is no exception as Warren Ellis comic book, “Gravel”, has been optioned by Legendary Pictures and they’ve gotten Ellis to write the screenplay and also executive produce. While all of the films being developed from more obscure comic books are starting to confuse me, I do think that this one can be something special. More after the jump.
THR’s Heat Vision Blog tells us that the ongoing comic book series blends espionage and dark fantasy elements while telling the story of British “combat magician” William Gravel. They also tell us that Ellis first introduced the character in a 1999 limited series of graphic novels entitled “Strange Kiss.” I don’t know what exactly a “combat magician” is, but I like the sound of it already.
I’ve read some of Warren Ellis’ work in the past and I’m a fan. »

There is nothing new about sequel talk or prequel talk regarding 300, the movie that not only was one of the biggest surprises of 2007 but also stands as the primary reason we're seeing so many sword n' sandal movies in various stages of development (Clash of the Titans, Conan, Red Sonja, etc.). The trouble is, the story's not really written for a part two and a prequel might not offer too much that's different.
Still, the rumors continue to fly and Zack Snyder and Frank Miller say the door is open, depending on the story. Clearly, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures want more Spartans, but in order to do that, you might want to work King Leonidas back into the story. Tough to imagine that in a sequel, of course, so that places more emphasis on the events before 300.
For his part, Gerard Butler tells MTV he doesn't know "how real" the franchise talk is. »

In his 25 years of life, Prince Harry has been able to attract lots of attention for his bizarre decisions that range from wearing a Nazi outfit to choosing to go to the military rather than a university. Now, the DailyMail is reporting that a film based on his life is headed to the big screen. Entitled "The Spare," the paper says that it will "chart the prince's biography from being trapped in a tragic fairy tale to becoming a royal warrior." "The Spare" will be international in scale and will begin filming in about one year around the UK and the Middle East. Director Peter Kosminsky said that he is still waiting to read Jeremy Brock's script, but some of the actors on his list to portray Harry are Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Harry Treadaway (Clash of the Titans) and Rupert Friend (Pride and Prejudice). He added that he wouldn't »

Here is also our first look at Gemma Arterton and Liam Neeson photos from the set which Entertainment Weekly has unleashed.
The remake directed by Louis Letettier from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan stars Sam Worthington as Perseus, Gemma Arterton as Perseus’ love interest Io, Ralph Fiennes as Hades, Liam Neeson as Zeus – Hades’ brother and father of Perseus, Danny Huston as Poseidon, Mads Mikkelsen as Draco, Alexa Davalos as Andromeda, Jason Flemyng, Izabella Miko, Nicholas Hoult and Pete Postlethwaite.
In the movie, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless »

Empire Online has Sam Worthington in his “Clash of the Titans” remake wardrobe on their cover this month. Inside, there is an article on the movie and interview with the star, in which Worthington proclaims, “we’re not in fuckin’ Harryhausen mode anymore”, which, er, is definitely going to rub some Ray Harryhausen fans the wrong way. Empire tries their best to save the Aussie from fanboy outrage, but you decide if they succeeded. An excerpt from the article: “He’s just your golden hero that you’re meant to follow,” says Worthington of the old Perseus. “I feel when my Perseus starts out, he should be this bombastic tank. The gods have killed his family. He’s Charles Bronson! He’s gonna go for revenge, and the best way to achieve that is to kill the Kraken. Well, to kill the Kraken you gotta kill Medusa. It was a surprisingly lively weekend full of headlines, in case you stepped out and - oh, I dunno - had a life. But as you get back in the swing of things, we have our usual Monday morning rundown for you. I guess the biggest news is either that Zombieland stomped a mud hole in the rest of this weekend's box office competition or that Disney did the same thing to its struggling Miramax brand, slashing its staff as we head into 2010. So long, Miramax.
We also got some updates on a famed horror franchise, good news for The Hobbit, and a cool new trailer for the George Romero remake, The Crazies.
So dig in...

Among Ray Harryhausen's many stop-motion animation classics is the 1981 epic Clash of the Titans, which is being remade in a new feature film due out next March.
Louis Leterrier, director of The Incredible Hulk, is at the helm and Sam Worthington, star of Terminator Salvation and this December's Avatar, is playing the heroic Perseus who must battle mythical monsters to rescue princess Andromeda.
Hinting that this is a much darker take than the original, Worthington said: "We're not in f****** Harryhausen mode any more."
And if you are wondering how this gritty reimagining compares with the original, several new images have been released which give some idea of how the new film looks.
They include pictures of Sam Worthington and also Liam Neeson as king of the gods Zeus. As they could fall into the realm of Spoilers, I've put them below...

Doesn't Sam Worthington look hot in this picture? He's Perseus-perfect! When I first heard that he's going to star in the role that Harry Hamlin made famous for in the 1981 original film, I was skeptical.
But upon meeting the actor, and seeing pics of him in his Perseus costume, I'm sold! I love Greek mythology, so I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. But we have to wait until March 26 of 2010 before we can see the film.
Full disclosure -- Worthington is my new man-crush. Why? He's nice, sweet, and he watches my videos! Yes! Check out my fun interview with him for "Terminator Salvation" by clicking here. I even made Christian Bale laugh when I told him I'm replacing him for Worthington in my man-crush category Ha! :happy

Jose here with some guys in skirts and feuding gods.
Images have began to circle the web announcing the remake of Clash of the Titans (is it just me or does it feel like it was announced about a month ago? Movie production sure is fast nowadays...). The movie based on the 1981 classic is being directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Sam Worthington (who's yet to prove his worth with James Cameron's upcoming Avatar) as the mythical demigod Perseus.
The original was a favorite of mine as a kid. I used to be enchanted by Ray Harryhausen's stop motion effects (I covered my eyes whenever Medusa appeared and was terrified by the Stygian Witches) and the plot got me interested in Greek myths.
Once I became film conscious however, the movie proved to be worthy because of several other things. That cast for starters! With Sir Laurence Olivier, »
