Trivia

Jeri Gray passed away 3 months after the show ended.
In the episode where Gina loses her job, she and Martin argue about her redecorating their bedroom with the colors pink and green. Gina says that they're her sorority colors, a reference to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. the nation's oldest black sorority.
In the talent show episode, the song Gina performs, "Push," is a single that Tisha Campbell released.
In the episode Homeo and Juliet, Martin make mention of the girl from School Daze by Spike Lee being fine. The girl just happens to be a character played by Tisha Campbell-Martin.
There's a poster on the wall for the Spike Lee film Do the Right Thing (1989). 'Martin Lawrence' played Cee on that film.
In the episode where Kid (From the rap duo Kid n Play) cameos, Sheneneh asks him if he would kiss her like he kissed the light-skinned girl in his movie "House Party", referring to the character Sydney. Sydney was played by Tisha Campbell (Gina).
The character Tommy Ford is often the pun of not having a job since his job is unknown ("YOU DON'T GOT NO JOB, MANNN!!!!"). However there are hints throughout the show of what Tommy's actual occupation may be: In several episodes Tommy gets Martin and the gang to participate in events to help mentor and aid troubled youth through his job (the episode where Martin reunites with his favorite childhood teacher Mrs. Trinidad; the Christmas episodes where they help the kids). It can be strongly alluded that Tommy worked for a Boys & Girls Club- type organization.
In the episode when Gina told Pam, Lena Bozack (Kenya Moore) could be Miss USA. Kenya Moore was actually Miss USA in 1993.
In the episode where Martin, Tommy, Cole, Nipsy and Air Gordon play the Women's US Basketball team, it is revealed (by his jersey) that Tommy's last name is Strawnn and not Strong as previously reported.
Prior to starring in Martin, Carl Anthony Payne and Tichina Arnold both made guest appearances on The Cosby Show. Thomas Mikal Ford and Tisha Campbell both made guest appearances on A Different World.

It is largely known that Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell were having personal issues with each other the last couple of seasons so serious that her and Lawrence did not act in scenes together during the last season, as Campbell filed a harassment lawsuit against Lawrence at the beginning of the season. However, it just came to public attention that Carl Anthony Payne II ("Cole Brown") also had personal issues with Lawrence for the last few seasons of the show that were so tense, as in they were not getting along at all off camera, and it is why his character Cole did not appear in several episodes during the last few seasons. Payne discussed this "beef" between he and Martin in interviews in 2015.

The character Tommy Strawn (Thomas Mikal Ford) is the intellectual among Martin's peers, despite having a popularly unknown job. In the episode Power to the People's Court, Tommy is summoned to court by Sheneneh Jenkins for a fender bender. Tommy states he is equipped to defend himself in court because he "spent one year in law school." Martin also states in earlier episodes that Tommy finished college, but his career is largely unknown.

In Martin's apartment for the first couple of seasons, before Gina moved in and redecorated, Martin had two rap music posters up on his walls. In the hallway by the kitchen was a CD sized poster of the rap group The UMCs' debut album Fruits of Nature released in 1991. In Martin's dining room area on the back wall, was a album poster of rapper Tupac Shakur's debut solo album 2PACALYPSE NOW also released in 1991. It was mostly obscured by a glass frame that separted the rooms but it is still visible.

R&B singer Eric Bellinger recorded a song titled "Gina" for his 2015 album Cuffing Season that pays ode to Martin & Gina's loving relationship. The song even uses samples from the show's theme song and from the episode "Pretty Ricky What they Called Him" where Martin describes Gina to Pretty Ricky at the high school reunion. In the song, Bellinger croons "I'll be your Martin to your Gina."
