In an Archive of American Television interview, Malcolm-Jamal Warner revealed that he was frustrated making Malcolm & Eddie because he felt that the producers of the show were catering to black stereotypes in order to cater to UPN's urban audience, which Warner (due to his experience with The Cosby Show) felt were easy and not necessary. Despite this (and tensions between himself and co-star Eddie Griffin) he stayed on hoping that the shows modest success would guarantee a good syndication deal once the show reached 100 episodes.
