Horror and comedy are two of my favorite genres and just like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, I like when they are combined. Last month, Screen Rant writer Ross Miller did a series on horror films that were combined with other genres. One of those combinations was horror plus comedy and the movie he choose was Shaun of the Dead. Other great examples are the always popular Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness with Bruce “The Chin” Campbell.
Well today, courtesy of our friends at Bloody Disgusting, we have a new trailer for the upcoming horror/comedy film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. If the film is half as funny as the trailer then I am really looking forward to seeing it. The movie stars Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dodgeball) and Tyler Labine (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) as two redneck hillbillies that want to do nothing more than enjoy »

AfterEllen.com’s forums have been abuzz with readers whose gaydars have been picking up on the non-straightness of Archie Panjabi’s character, Kalinda Sharma, on CBS’s The Good Wife. Though there aren’t any American news sources confirming Kalinda’s sexuality, South Asian-specific blog Sepia Mutiny and several Indian news sites, as well as some in the UK, reported a month ago that Panjabi’s character is indeed bisexual.
Rediff Movies states that Panjabi, the Indian-origin actress of Bend it like Beckham fame, plays Kalinda, a “bisexual Indian investigator who works alongside the show’s attorney protagonist, [Alicia Florrick], played by Julianna Margulies.”
No word yet on whether Kalinda’s bisexuality will be explored or portrayed in a healthy way, but according to the forums, I’m clearly not alone in speculating that the character Donna is Kalinda’s lezzy lover. And now, in light of these confirmations, Donna very »

We bought (and played) into the Whip It hype from the moment Drew Barrymore secured the rights to produce and direct Shauna Cross' young adult novel, Derby Girl. The female-directed, female-scripted, predominantly female-acted film opens in the theaters today, and after catching the sneak peek last weekend I can confidently tell you that with Whip It, Barrymore didn't make any promises she couldn't keep.
Whip It is a smash-and-bash, coming-of-age fairytale that is thoroughly predictable in every way, yet still manages to come off fresh. Maybe it's the infusion of rollicking feminist sentiment, or the girl-heavy soundtrack that swings easily between Tilly and the Wall and Dolly Parton. Or maybe it just feels good to occasionally watch someone get elbowed in the face on purpose.
For those of you who need a refresher: Whip It follows Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page) as she lies about her age and goes against »

Apparently, Aishwarya Rai who did Gurinder's Bride & Prejudice and her husband Paul Berges's The Mistress Of Spices, won't work with her...not after Chadha apparently went around blaming Ash for the failure of her husband's film. Gurinder has also shown keen interest in working with Rani Mukherjee. And of course Kareena who is not impressed. For the second time she has said no to the Bend It Like Beckham director. Says a source, "Three years ago Gurinder wanted Kareena for Bride & Prejudice. Kareena naturally presumed it was the lead. She was shocked to know the director actually wanted her for Aishwarya's youngest sister's part which finally went to Piya Rai Chowdhary. Kareena was shocked. She had »

Killer Imports [1] is a regular feature on Film Junk where we explore foreign-language films from around the world that haven’t yet had their chance to shine. I think I once loved a girl. The reason I bring this up is that I recently watched a Korean movie called My Sassy Girl and the woman referenced in the title reminded me of her. I wouldn’t normally review a romantic comedy, but I had read about this movie after having seen one of the director’s previous movies, Cyborg She [2], which I favorably reviewed recently. Both these movies are a part of a trilogy by the writer and director, Jae-young Kwak, although the science fiction element in My Sassy Girl is not the basis of the reality in the movie. I’ll get to that soon enough. Since this movie was released in 2001, I’ll admit that I’m late »

Los Angeles, Actress Parminder Nagra loved working on the set of Emmy Award-winning American medical drama "ER" so much that when the series ended she took home two of the ward doors from the show as mementoes. The "Bend It Like Beckham" star played Dr. Neela Rasgotra in the TV series that ended earlier this year. Imdb.com reports that now she wants to fit the doors into her Los Angeles house, but worries it will look too much like a hospital. "When you've been on a show for so long and love it so much, you have got to take something but I don't want my house looking like the inside of 'ER'," said the actress. "I've absolutely no idea where I'm going to put them in the house and we are going to have to do it really artistically, but I guess we'll ... »

Gurinder Chadha speaks to Subhash K Jha about her next film It's A Wonderful Afterlife. Tell us about your new film. Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life is one of my favourite films. It's A Wonderful Afterlife takes me back to the Bend It Like Beckham territory. Sanjeev Bhaskar and Shaheen Khan are there. I've actors from Beckham back in my new film. It's that kind of film. It takes me back to my Punjabi roots, very West London. What would be an interesting challenge for my leading lady Shabana Azmi is that, for the first time, she plays British Indian. We haven't seen her do a British film. Shabana will be playing an Indian woman who has been living in Britain for the last 45 years. She's never done that before. Besides, I've a completely different take on being British Indian from what Indians perceive. My film is going to be the quintessential British comedy. »
