  • Sweden's Official Submission to the Best Foreign Language Film Category of the 80th Annual Academy Awards (2008).

  • Shooting started in 2003 and had to be closed down twice due to need of more funding.

  • Every scene in the movie except one is shot in studio.

  • This vignette also marks the only cut in the film as it shifts from inside the couple's kitchen to outside.

  • As a child, Roy Andersson witnessed the moving of about 100 houses from the bay of Skarvik to Gothenberg to facilitate the building of a new harbor. This involved putting the houses on logs and then rolling them to their new location. This is the inspiration behind the vignette of the rock star and his new bride whose cosy domestic scene appears to be on train tracks.

  • For the vignette set in a hairdressers, the actor getting his hair cut had to have all his hair shaved off initially and then glued back on.

  • This is the second part of a planned trilogy.

  • The electric chair vignette was inspired by Andy Warhol's painting "USA: The United States of America".

  • This vignette also contains a nod to a little-known fact about Sweden's history during WW2, namely its pro-Nazi sentiments. (When the tablecloth is removed, it reveals Nazi swastikas inlaid into the top of the table as part of its design.)

  • For the vignette where the workman attempts to remove a tablecloth from a heavily laden table, the china nearest the camera was real whilst the crockery nearest the actor was plastic for safety reasons.

  • 18 different organizations were involved in the financing of the film.

  • This consists of 50 short sketches, each filmed in one take.
