Willie Garson is one of the stars of the USA Network's latest hit series White Collar, which airs on Friday nights at 10 Pm Et on the USA Network. Garson recently held a conference call to discuss his role in the series, and here's what he had to say.
What was it about this particular show or about the script that drew you back to TV?
Willie Garson: Well, I found the script to be very interesting and very timely. Certainly, we all have been reading about a lot of people figuring out ways to scam and get money for doing nothing, other than figuring out a way to get over on hard working people. So I thought that was a really interesting time for a show like this.
What's the most challenging aspect of your role?
Willie Garson: That's an interesting question. The most challenging aspect was for me, »

· MTV will air an exclusive interview with Chris Brown on Friday. From the preview, Brown is clearly not wearing powder blue or a bow-tie, and for that alone you can tell he's not sorry.
· Colin Hanks is set to co-star with Bradley Whitford on the Fox series Jack & Dan, an action-comedy (a la Burn Notice) about a detective and his drunken cop partner. This sounds juicier than Hanks's woefully under-explored Mad Men arc.
· Michelle Obama will host Mario Batali, Bobby Flay, and Emeril Lagasse at the White House for an episode of Iron Chef America. All of Obama's food commentaries are rumored to start with, "Well, anything tastes better than being on The Jay Leno Show, I can tell you that."
· Taylor Swift has already used up one of her three allotted Kanye West jokes on a lame SNL promo.
· Get this: Some parents want to prevent the Gossip Girl threesome from airing. »

I don't want to start watching another cop show, but it looks like I might have to: Colin Hanks has been cast alongside Bradley Whitford in an upcoming Fox cop "action comedy" from Matt Nix, creator of Burn Notice. Hanks will play an "ambitious, by-the-book detective" while Josh Lyman Whitford will be a "a drunken, lecherous, wild-card cop who hangs onto his job only because of a heroic act years before," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Does this sound a little hokey? Maybe. But Burn Notice can sound sort of lame, and that show's a lot of fun. Mostly, though, »

Burn Notice creator Matt Nix has just found the second title character for his new series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colin Hanks has signed on to star in Jack and Dan.
Bradley Whitford had already signed on for one of the lead roles, with Hanks stepping into the other lead role. Hanks will portray Jack, a squeaky-clean detective who continues to undermine himself and stall his career progress. He's partnered up with Dan (Whitford) a wild-card alcoholic cop who only has a job because of heroics he performed years ago.
The series was said to be of a similar tone to Nix's Burn Notice and filming will star on the 13-episode order early next year.

In the past several months, I’ve lost interest in television. Even shows I really like aren’t appointment viewing anymore with DVR, online downloads, and streaming content. But I refuse to miss a single episode of Matt Nix’s “Burn Notice” which, for me, has redefined my notions of the spy genre far more than the Bourne series. It’s not that either is bad, but the instructional narration and witty dialogue make “Burn Notice” and absolute delight. So when I hear that Nix has a new action-comedy and it stars Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks, I’m already in. Hit the jump for details on Nix’s upcoming show, “Jack and Dan”.
Hanks will topline the 13-episode Fox series as Jack, “an ambitious, by-the-book detective whose habit of undermining himself has resulted in a dead-end position at the Los Angeles Police Department. Worse, he has been partnered with Dan (Whitford), a drunken, »

The latest USA dramedy collared impressed ratings on Friday night.
White Collar premiered to 5.3 million viewers last week, an increase of 46% from the previous week's Psych season finale in the same timeslot.
Even more impressively: the debut was also up 35% from the series premiere of Burn Notice June 2007; and nearly equaled the launching of this summer’s major network premiere, Royal Pains, despite airing against more difficult, fall competition.
It's safe to say the USA Network is officially on a roll.

There's been a lot of buzz about what's new on Smallville lately, ever since three members of the Justice Society have been cast. Season nine has been hailed positively by fans so far, especially since we're seeing more and more comic book characters come to life.
First on our list today is Hawkman, and IGN TV reports that the role has been given to Stargate Sg-1 actor Michael Shanks. He already has quite a background on sci-fi and action shows like Burn Notice and Eureka, which will allow him to fit in perfectly on Smallville.

(S01E01) USA Network likes to remind us that characters are welcome. Thankfully, that's not just a slogan, as all of their shows actually do have great lead characters. And this holds true for the latest light comedy-action drama White Collar.
Sure, there's similar DNA that runs though a lot of the USA shows. Burn Notice, Royal Pains, and White Collar all have a similar setup and feel to them, but when the shows are actually good (like all of these shows are) that's not a problem. I don't know if there's anything "deep" about this show, but it's entertaining as hell.

Chicago – The creative roll of the USA Network continues tonight with the debut of another quick, clever, mystery-of-the-week series that should satisfy fans of their hits like “Monk,” “Psych,” “Burn Notice,” and “Royal Pains”. “White Collar” doesn’t break any molds, almost fitting too predictably into the USA dynamic, but it’s an entertaining program for the end of a long week and looks likely to be another slam dunk for one of the most successful cable networks of the ’00s.
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0
“White Collar” practically feels like a hybrid of USA hits from its plot description alone. It features international conspiracies a la “Burn Notice” but does so with a buddy duo like “Psych” and is set in the world of the uber-wealthy like “Royal Pains”. Of course, being derivative means little to viewers of a show like this as long as it’s entertaining and “White Collar” is surprisingly so, »

Sarah Shahi's characters have worn many vocational hats over the years.
She's done the cop thing.
The DJ thing.
The falling in love with Shane thing.
I know that's not really a job, but so many lesbians have done it, I hear they're offering a minor in Shane at Smith these days.
Lucky for us TV execs are going to continue to let her try on hats until she finds one that fits just right. The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Shahi has landed the lead in a new USA Network pilot, Facing Kate. Information is scarce; USA hasn't even ordered the show yet, but assuming the pilot does get picked up, Facing Kate will follow "Kate (Shahi), a divorced San Francisco woman who leaves her job as a lawyer to become a mediator."
USA has developed some pretty solid original programming over the last few years with Monk, »

Now, thanks to IGN TV, we've learned the precise characters that will appear in the episode penned by comic book writer Geoff Johns.

Tricia Helfer is a really, really good actress. Before she was killed on Burn Notice, I wanted her dead for what she did to Michael. On Battlestar Galactica, as Six, she was a stone cold Cylon killer. She's very good at convincing me that she's dangerous. But can she do comedy? Hmm ... I guess we're going to find out. Tricia Helfer will guest on Two and a Half Men in an upcoming episode.
According to Michael Ausiello of EW.com, Tricia will be playing a good friend of Charlie's fiancee, Chelsea, who has recently ended a bad relationship. As an act of kindness, Chelsea asks her to come out to Malibu for a visit.

White Collar will bring a new slate of characters to the USA Network family when the new series premieres on Friday, October 23 at 10 Pm Et on the USA Network. The new series was created by Jeff Eastin and the creator/executive producer recently held a conference call to discuss this new addition to the USA Network. Here's what he had to say.
Now that you have segued from writer to producer, how're you juggling everything that you're doing because that's quite a bit given that this is a new series.
Jeff Eastin: Yes, it's been a little insane. I've done it a couple times before, so it's not exactly a new experience. I gained some pretty valuable experience on the other shows that didn't survive, so I'm hoping that I can use that information to actually keep this one on the air.

Fox is developing an hourlong drama from soap actor turned "Burn Notice" writer Ben Watkins and "Wild Hogs" producer Mike Tollin.
The 20th Century Fox TV project revolves around a private eye who uses her background as an ethnically and culturally diverse woman to blend into any situation. Watkins will write the pilot; he and Tollin will serve as executive producers.
While Watkins has been focusing on writing as of late, he's an ex-soap actor best known for playing Dr. Wesley Carter on CBS's "The Young and the Restless" from 2002 until 2004. He h... »

Mark Sheppard is coming to Supernatural.
As first reported by Mo Ryan of The Chicago Tribune, the actor will portray a "pivotal" demon named Crowley in this season's 10th episode.
The installment, titled "Abandon All Hope..." is the final hour of Supernatural in 2009. The show will take a month-long hiatus before returning in 2010.
But it will at least go out with a bang, as the episode is "epic" and will "definitely... have the fans on the edge of their seats going into the holiday 'hellatus,'" Ryan's source said.
Sheppard has recentlg guest-starred on Burn Notice, Leverage, Dollhouse and Warehouse 13. »

Let me start by confessing that every morning, I watched Bravo's back-to-back episodes of The West Wing. That means I get a dose of Bradley Whitford every weekday. Then, there's Burn Notice, created by Matt Nix. I don't miss any of those shows either.
So, the news that Bradley Whitford is signed for Jack and Dan, Matt Nix's new series for Fox, was happy indeed. My reaction was enthusiastic optimism bordering on a reason to sing. "Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh, what a beautiful day... "

The latest addition to a long line of new media forays backed by major media compaines is Fox Television Studio's 15 Gigs, which recently sponsored a coveted prize at the New York Television Festival. While covering the festival, I had a chance to sit down and chat with two of 15 Gigs' executives, Ilsa Berg, Director of Programming and Rachel Webber, Director of Digital Strategy and Development. We wanted to know what exactly they are planning to succeed in a space still looking for its go-to model. Portfolio Approach Fox Television Studios, Fox's cable production arm, best known for edgy shows like The Shield and Burn Notice, is taking a different approach to creating a new media branch with 15 Gigs. "[We're] not in the business of creating a destination site" proclaimed Webber, such as Sony's Crackle, perhaps to avoid competing with parent-backed Hulu. Also, they are not strictly sticking to branded entertainment like NBC's Digital Studio. »
