USA Spreads Out Programming

27 November 2009 2:08 PM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

If you had your Friday and Saturday nights marked off for USA programming, you might want to change your calendar come January. The network is rethinking its entire schedule, according to Futon Critic, and is taking over the middle of the week. Burn Notice, Psych, and White Collar, which all previously occupied the latter part of the week, have been moved up by the network to Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

White Collar will be the first of these to take the new timeslot. It will return for the second half of its first season on Tuesday, January 19, at 10/9c, narrowly dodging regular competition with shows like Lost and Glee, which occupy earlier timeslots on the same night.

Burn Notice will take over Thursdays at 10/9c starting on January 21, where it will resume its third season.

Finally, Psych's return will take over Wednesdays at 10/9c. It will return with its fourth »

Burn Notice Season 4 Gets the Thumbs Up

27 November 2009 1:51 AM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

"Burn Notice" fans have something to be thankful this holiday season. The light-hearted spy series starring Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen and Gabrielle Anwar as Fiona Glenanne is getting a fourth season. The Emmy Nominated series is scheduled to return in the New Year with the remaining seven episodes. It should come as no surprise to long time "Notice" fans who helped the show become USA Network's lead prime time series. The news, released by "Variety," comes only days after USA Network announced the fifth season renewal of Psych. There has been no announcement as to the length of the season, but the seasons have typically run around 15 or 16 episodes. »

Channel Surfing: "Fringe" to Go on Hiatus in February...

25 November 2009 7:48 AM, PST | Televisionary | See recent Televisionary news »

Welcome to your Wednesday morning television briefing. Just a few headlines to get through today as the Hollywood PR machine begins its annual shutdown for Thanksgiving. Futon Critic yesterday broke the story that Fringe will go on a seven-week hiatus beginning February 11th in order to accommodate the seven-week run of reincarnation drama Past Life. Fringe will return for the remainder of its run on April 1st and will air all-new episodes for the rest of the season. Sadly, Fox has opted to keep Fringe in its Thursday night berth rather than move it out of the line of fire. (Futon Critic) Fox announced its full midseason schedule yesterday afternoon, which included news that Glee will be returning with new episodes in April after wrapping up its initial thirteen-episode commitment in December. (Televisionary) In other Fox-related news, the network has given sophomore drama series Lie to Me a full season order, »

Burn Notice Rekindled

24 November 2009 4:20 PM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

USA's Burn Notice will be back for a fourth season, claims EW, who says that the renewal was only secured yesterday; reports surfaced in July that the fourth season was already a done deal. The 16-episode season will likely begin next summer following the second half of season three, which commences this January. Coming on the heels of Psych's fifth-season renewal, the USA network once again substantiates itself as a stronghold for our most irascible '80s drama stars. Plus, if Psych doesn't tickle your imbalanced neurons, Lie to Me is officially ready to rivet them with another full season. [EW] »

USA Network Renews Burn Notice

24 November 2009 12:57 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It seems we'll be enjoying the exploits of a burned Miami spy for at least one more season. According to Variety, the USA Network has renewed its hit series Burn Notice for a fourth season.

The series is currently on hiatus right now, with nine episodes of the series' third season airing this summer, and the final seven set to air starting in January. It wasn't clear how many episodes were ordered, but the series has typically ran in 15 or 16-episode seasons.

USA's pickup comes just a day after the network renewed its Friday-night hit Psych for a fifth season. It wasn't clear when production would start on the fourth season of Burn Notice at this time, or when the new season would premiere.

By Daniel Frankel

USA confirmed Tuesday what had already been pretty a foregone conclusion – its hit original spy dramedy “Burn Notice” has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network placing a 16-episode order.

Starring Jeffrey Donovan as an excommunicated CIA operative, Gabrielle Anwar as the spy who loves him and Bruce Campbell as his fixer friend, “Burn Notice” was once again instrumental over the summer in leading USA to a basic-cable ratings crown.

This was pretty much a no-brainer: USA Network has renewed Burn Notice for a fourth season, sources confirm to me exclusively. A report that Bn had been picked up appeared in the trades last July, but a USA insider says the season 4 deal only became official yesterday. The smash hit is slated to return with the second half of its third season in January. The 16-episode fourth season would likely debut next summer. J.J. Abrams Producing Samurai Jack Movie

24 November 2009 3:53 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

According to longtime media executive Fred Seibert, former head of Hanna-Barbera and current head of Frederator films, Genndy Tartakovsky’s popular animated show, Samurai Jack, is headed to the big screen with J.J. Abrams as a co-producer. The film, which is budgeted at $20 million, will combine  traditional 2D animation with stereoscopic 3D. It is being produced by Fredarator Films and Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot Productions.

For those that don’t recall the show, Samurai Jack was a four-time Emmy award winning animated series that ran on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004. Created by Genndy Tartakovsky, who was also the genius behind Dexter’s Laboratory and Star Wars: Clone Wars, Samurai Jack revolved around, well…a samurai named Jack. Jack was a noble warrior who is cast into the future by the evil Aku, “the shape-shifting Master of Darkness.” Each episode involved Jack’s attempts to return to the past to »

What Allison is thankful for

Thanksgiving is coming and for many of us it's time to eat, drink and watch football. It's also a time to reflect on the things you're grateful for and since TV Squad is all about television, here's what I'm grateful for this holiday season, with regard to the tube.

Mad Men season finale

There was really nothing as satisfying in the entire year for me. Matt Weiner promised a game-changing episode and he delivered it with a whopper of a wrap up. Actually, nothing was really wrapped; it was more like the cards have been dealt and we're still waiting to see how the hands are played.

Lovitz has spent his fifth year supporting the charity event, now in its twentieth year, which helps support abused women.

Evert and Lovitz also go as far back as twenty years as well. She hosted "Saturday Night Live" when he was a cast member. "Chris hosted 'Saturday Night Live' when I was on it and I've been doing this charity for a few years now and I love it," Lovitz said. USA's "Burn Notice" star Jeffrey Donovan took some time out to lend a hand, and his backhand, to the Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic, now in its twentieth year. There, he joins other celebrities like Matt Lauer, Jon Lovitz, Elisabeth Shue, and Gavin Rossdale, in a charity event that helps abused women and children.

"The organization invited me. I do a lot of charity work and I said yes right away," said Donovan, who shoots his hit show in South Florida where it the event takes place. "I grew up watching Chris and all these amazing tennis players. It's just great to go out and meet these incredible athletes."

Willie Garson Discusses White Collar

6 November 2009 9:28 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Willie Garson is one of the stars of the USA Network's latest hit series White Collar, which airs on Friday nights at 10 Pm Et on the USA Network. Garson recently held a conference call to discuss his role in the series, and here's what he had to say.

What was it about this particular show or about the script that drew you back to TV?

Willie Garson: Well, I found the script to be very interesting and very timely. Certainly, we all have been reading about a lot of people figuring out ways to scam and get money for doing nothing, other than figuring out a way to get over on hard working people. So I thought that was a really interesting time for a show like this.

What's the most challenging aspect of your role?

Willie Garson: That's an interesting question. The most challenging aspect was for me, »

TV Round Up: MTV 'Runs It'

· MTV will air an exclusive interview with Chris Brown on Friday. From the preview, Brown is clearly not wearing powder blue or a bow-tie, and for that alone you can tell he's not sorry.

· Colin Hanks is set to co-star with Bradley Whitford on the Fox series Jack & Dan, an action-comedy (a la Burn Notice) about a detective and his drunken cop partner. This sounds juicier than Hanks's woefully under-explored Mad Men arc.

· Michelle Obama will host Mario Batali, Bobby Flay, and Emeril Lagasse at the White House for an episode of Iron Chef America. All of Obama's food commentaries are rumored to start with, "Well, anything tastes better than being on The Jay Leno Show, I can tell you that."

· Taylor Swift has already used up one of her three allotted Kanye West jokes on a lame SNL promo.

· Get this: Some parents want to prevent the Gossip Girl threesome from airing. »

Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford, together at last

4 November 2009 12:26 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I don't want to start watching another cop show, but it looks like I might have to: Colin Hanks has been cast alongside Bradley Whitford in an upcoming Fox cop "action comedy" from Matt Nix, creator of Burn Notice. Hanks will play an "ambitious, by-the-book detective" while Josh Lyman Whitford will be a "a drunken, lecherous, wild-card cop who hangs onto his job only because of a heroic act years before," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Does this sound a little hokey? Maybe. But Burn Notice can sound sort of lame, and that show's a lot of fun. Mostly, though, »
