When I first visited Irish filmmaker Liam O Mochain ten years ago on the set of his debut feature, The Book That Wrote Itself, one of the first things I noticed was that he had managed to pull together production elements that would have been difficult for a film with ten times the budget. On the first day, he had managed to get the City of Dublin to give him a double-decker bus, complete with driver, to shoot on throughout the city. I, and a few dozen other tourists, had just paid the equivalent of $20 each for a tour on a similar bus, just the day before. Brown Bag Films and producer Morgan O'Sullivan (The Tudors) have been nominated in the International Category and the Special Category respectively of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2009. The Smithfield-based computer animation studios Brown Bag Films recently came away from the 2009 Cartoon forum with the title of European Producer of the Year Brown Bag Fims and won an Ifta animation award this year for their 'Granny O'Grimm' alternative fairytale series. Morgan O'Sullivan is the producer of the Ifta winning drama series 'The Tudors', the executive producer of film 'A Shine of Rainbows', the drama series 'Father and Son', 'Raw' and the television movie 'My Boy Jack'. »

'Father & Son', Rte One's latest summer drama will premiere Monday June 29 at 9.30pm. A co-production between Rte and ITV, this four part drama which has a formidable cast of actors including Dougray Scott, Stephen Rea and Sophie Okonedo, is tipped to be rich, compelling and highly entertaining. Director of the project was Brian Kirk (My Boy Jack, Middletown), whilst producer was Micheal Casey (My Boy Jack, Middletown), the script was written by Emmy award winning Irish writer Frank Deasy (Prime Suspect: The Final Act) and Dop wasRuairi O'Brien (Running Mate). These talents coupled with an all star cast including Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II), Stephen Rea (The Crying Game), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda), John Kavanagh (The Tudors) and Flora Montgomery (When Brendan Met Trudy) guarantees that audiences are in for a treat with this four part series. Director Kari Skogland talks to Iftn ahead of the release of the new thriller 'Fifty Dead Men Walking'. The Canadian helmer chats about why she was attracted to the story of real life Ira infiltrator Martin McGartland and her experience of filming in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The film's title 'Fifty Dead Men Walking' refers to the fifty men that Martin McGartland, played by Brit actor Jim Strugess (21, The Other Boyelyn Girl), is thought to have saved during the Troubles during the late 1980's. McGartland was recruited by a British Special Branch Officer (Sir Ben Kingsley - Gandhi, Schindler's List) to spy on the Ira and subsequently spoiled numerous murder plans against the British army. After being discovered, McGartland has since had to live his life on the run.
