Jesse McCartney was originally cast to play Zuko, but was replaced with
Dev Patel due to scheduling conflicts. Even after this casting change, the film remains the subject of controversy and protest due to the casting decision of all four lead roles, namely choosing largely Caucasian actors when the characters are more Asian and Native American ethnicity in the original series.
