I.m excited about Machete in a way that.s almost impossible to explain to anyone who doesn.t rate Planet Terror as one of their favorite zombie movies. Scratch that, most of you haven.t even seen Planet Terror, judging from the scant handful of people who showed up for the greatness of Grindhouse. I have a feeling that Robert Rodriguez.s Machete will fare better. It doesn.t hurt that it stars, among others, Jessica Alba. In fact Alba, as Sartana, is the first Machete character to get a real teaser poster. You.d think the first one would have been of Machete, but once you look at tight-jeans, white tank top Alba ready to lay down the law, you.ll be glad she went first. Click the poster below to see the a bigger, full version where it originated, over at Cs. »

At last night's red carpet premiere of Black Waters of Echo's Pond, we caught up with one of the film's stars, Electra Avellan (a.k.a. one half of Planet Terror's Crazy Babysitter Twins), who told us about her role in Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete. Based on the faux trailer in Grindhouse, Machete will again see Danny Trejo's title character unleashing hell on earth upon corrupt politicians and various other ne'er-do-wells. Find out what Avellan told us about the film after the jump. Regarding the amount of humor that will be present in Machete (as opposed to drama), Avellan remarked, "In my opinion, I'm not speaking for Robert at all, this movie is taken more seriously [than]... »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.
So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…
When is it? – 9th April.
Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico
Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

In the Robert Rodriguez-scripted/directed first of its two conjoined movies, Grindhouse is the ultimate sugar rush for horror fans, a high-calorie, low-nutrition blast of cheap thrills wrought on a big budget. In the second, Quentin Tarantino upends the framework and traditions of exploitation fare to craft a film that’s just as much a showcase for his gift of (writing) gab as it is for action. And in both Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof, a love and respect shines through for the B-movie tradition that too many others “homage” with snarky irony. The wholeheartedness with which they express their devotion to the form almost amounts to a kind of innocence, and for all the explicit mayhem on screen, »

When you think about movie parodies -- we could be talking Airplane!, the Austin Powers films, or one of those great old Mad magazine satires, which were really the first place that a lot of us, as kids, got to "see" movies made for adults -- the key to a terrific send-up would seem to be the art of exaggeration, pure and simple. But there’s a particular brand of cinematic parody that I love, at this point, almost more than any other. And though it does employ the art of exaggeration (in very, very deadpan ways), far more than that, »

Sometimes when director and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst stares into the Internet, the Internet stares back, and when you see what he saw, I think you'll understand why I selected this image as the Twitter Pic of the Day. Plus, if you're still contemplating Halloween costumes for this year, there's some golden inspiration awaiting you.
Twitter-Wood saw some drama in addition to the horror today, though, as Lindsay Lohan vented frustrations about communicating with Samantha Ronson. Those tweets are posted below along with Robert Rodriguez's first-day appraisal of "Predators" filming, David Slade's expectations for "Eclipse" today and Jon Favreau's in-house reenactment of "Couples Retreat." All of that and more lurks below in the Twitter-Wood report for October 13, 2009.

Lists can be fun if I don't take them seriously. I always like to see how other people compile "top" or "best of's," and it's cool to disagree with placements, omissions and inclusions. As a zombie lover, I wanted to have a great time with Entertainment Weekly's "25 Best Zombie Movies of All Time." Alas, as enjoyable as this one was for me to gloss over, I was majorly let down by two issues with the list. Allow me to explain, as I prove that I took this list too seriously.
Any list is only as good as the person who assembles it. And whoever assembled this one followed a regrettable trend common in EW's lists: including recent material that may be hot now, but likely has no place on this list in the long run. Planet Terror was a fun ride and I know how popular the underground [Rec] is, but »

It certainly helps to be creative when killing zombies. Shaun (Simon Pegg) and buddy Ed (Nick Frost) went for the cricket bat and garden shovel options (apparently LP records thrown at the head don’t work) in Shaun of the Dead, while Cherry (Rose McGowan) preferred to gun them down with the M4 carbine she used as a leg substitute in Planet Terror. Though there are countless ways to do the job, just look at Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), the Twinkie-obsessed anti-hero in new horror comedy Zombieland. He and his fellow survivors, trying to forage a life in the zombie inhabited post-apocalyptic world, are very imaginative in their zombie-killing duties, using everything from pianos to banjos and one of his favourite tools is his Cadillac Escalade, this week’s auto spot. »

First of all, it’s all-cards-on-the-table time. Zombieland is only the third zombie flick I’ve ever seen. I know, I know. I’m sorry. 28 days later and Shaun of the Dead are the other two. Not even one of the real “Dead” series. They’re on my Netflix queue and have been for quite some time. I just haven’t gotten around to them. Things come up, y’know? Wha’d’ya do? I also saw Planet Terror, but I’m nearly done blocking that from my memory so it doesn’t count. That all being said I got to go to an advance screening of this film, sat down with some popcorn and soda (as is appropriate) and thoroughly enjoyed Zombieland.
Before the film started, a gentleman, I’m assuming from the studio, got up in front of the theater, asked for our attention and told us we »

Actress Rose McGowan has reportedly split from her moviemaker fiance Robert Rodriguez.
The director proposed to the Charmed actress in 2007, and has since cast her in a string of his projects, including films Machete and Red Sonja.
But the pair has decided to end its relationship, according to Radaronline.com.
It was reported earlier this year that they had gone their separate ways, but Rodriguez dismissed the reports by confirming his engagement to his Planet Terror star.
Representatives for the couple had not commented on the latest split rumour as WENN goes to press. »

Rumor has it, Rose McGowan, who got public attention after starring as Paige Matthews on "Charmed", has broken off her engagement to filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. Unfortunately, as of the press time, representatives for both "The Black Dahlia" actress and Robert have yet to confirm or deny the report, Radar Online claimed.
Rose McGowan and Robert Rodriguez's first meeting was on the set of "Planet Terror" in 2006, during when she starred as a stripper with a machine-gun leg, while he became the helmer of the project. Both of them made their first public appearance as a couple at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2007. Then, in October the same year, Rose and Robert officially announced their engagement.
At that time, there was speculation that Robert got divorced from his wife of 16 years Elizabeth Avellan because of Rose. However, he soon turned down the news, claiming he and Elizabeth actually had »
